View Full Version : recessed valve spring comressor

ive had no luck finding one at a store ...ive been to autozone, checker, pepboys, casrquest, napa, mm&y, bap, and sears

they all have the kind for revalve spring but i need one that is for RECESSED springs...the valve springs are acually about 1/4 below the head

so im thinking i need one like this????

good luck they are usually available at sears, and or any tool truck, I lost mine a while ago and need to buy a new one as I am rebuilding a VW Jetta 1.8L turbo motor for my brother. to pop them out you can use a pin style magnet. and a punch and hammer... with a piece of wood under the valve to hold it up place the mag right on the valve stem, place punch near stem on the spring retainer hat, tap punch with hammer the spring retainer clips will pop out and stick to the mag.

but how do you get them back together...



a couple people told me sears but they dont carry it..they have the big C clamp style but it still wont work for this type...:aagh:

oh.i did find on online for apx $50 and i think MATCO wanted apx $85...

ive used, twp punches top evenly push down on the spring retainer hat, and had someone else place the keepers in

Is this in your 22r?
