View Full Version : FR42 Run/Lakeside BBQ on Saturday
Howdy all,
In the spirit on last weeks 101 event. KNETAZ and I will be leading/hosting a little FR42 run on Saturday. We'll be working out hauling a grill to the event and hoping to have some fun lake side. Sleep in-its a holiday weekend, but be at the paystation around 10:30 AM for departure. It should be a fun day for everyone. This trail isn't too tough and most of us have done it before. Its just a way to enjoy a low 90 degree day by dipping in the lake and relaxing on a nice run. I'll be posting this on the AZVJC site, so sign up and we'll see you there.

So, the grill will be available, as long as we bring the meat ?
Where you planning on setting up the grill ? that way stragglers could show up for the BBQ fun, just an idea.
See ya

Good question. I have a baby weber I was going to bring, not sure if we will need anything bigger, depends on how many respond I guess. The lake is really low right now, so I am not sure where the good places to set up are. Anyone?
Probably depend a little on what is available too.
That is a good question. CB's and cell phones might be necessary in order to track down the final resting place. I say this only because I figure other people will be out there playing as well and we will want to be in a place where we can have some fun. So, that place will be dictated by the number of people who show up and where everyone else is at on the lake.
I've got a hibachi, access to another Jr. Webber and a full size propane grill. If the dogs come with me, my cargo space will be limited. Anyway, I think we should have enough grill space. We might have to grill in shifts. BYO-Whatever you want to eat, drink and have fun with. Fun is the object of this Holiday weekend trip :D

Time to head out. I'm bringing brats and and a scuba kit for Tom ! ;)
See yo out there,
The skinny on the run is:
We had a great time. We got a private cove on FR42 and got some time in the sun and on the grill. Then someone decided to take their TJ for a swim. They just don't drink water real well and we had ourselves a little Jeep resue to do. The winches worked fine and outside of being a few hours into the dark, no harm done. Tom, let us know how its running. Until the next run, Let's keep the rubber side down.

P.S. Are the pics posted anywhere?

its easy Joe!
just Click on the Mountain lookin button(insert image) and it will ask for the URL..just cut and paste it.hit ok and Bingo ;)
Joe,
I wanted to hit the run, but was playing in traffic heading back from Forest Lakes-Did I mention how good the Crawfish boil was? Anyway, I don't know how to/never tried to post any pics here yet. I'm still in the stone age and have to wait for the pics to get developed and then dumped to a disc before I can upload/download or do anything else with them. Maybe when I'm done with the Jeep mods, I'll get one of those fancy Digital thingies. You would have gotten a kick out of the way the BBQ ended on Saturday. It took over 100' of winch cable and then two winches to finish up the evening. But hey, we all made it home and we gained a fish tank while out on a trail ride(bonus ;)).

Haven't heard anything. I dropped him an e-mail yesterday or the day before, and haven't gotten a response.
Well, that wasn't the worst of it. At least the wheels aren't floating in that photo. He was totatlly floating earlier. That was when he was pushed into the stream/lake for Kent and I to winch him out from the other side. It was easier to get him out by hauling him accross the water than to tow him out and up Spare Tire Canyon. I just noticed Kent's winch cable in Tom's hands-to put that time frame together. I haven't heard if its up and going now either. I sure hope it is. We cranked it sans the plugs and it sounded OK, but that's with no load on the rods and bearings. Great pic though. Anyone got ones of the actual fish tank? or any from when we played on Spare tire on the way down? Scout? Bueller? anyone? :D

Uh, Karen, regarding the How could that happen comment. All you have to do is decide to leave early and take a water crossing on your way to Showlow and waalaa-there you go-one Jeep fish tank created while we were waiving good bye. Needless to say, I ended up burning my Bratwurst and Bun because of the ensuing excitment..... I guess I got the best end of that situation. Further details are available upon request or just ask Tom :)

Actually, that is the fish tank picture, notice the water in the back. A winch was needed to get it out of the river the first time, Martin's winch I believe.
I'll try to get some more photo's up on photodump.com. Had a hella time trying to get them on the azvjc website (only 100k max ?) it kept telling me the file was too big, so I shrank it below 100k and still got the same message.
I also sent some Tom via email, but have yet to get a response.
Rich,
I was thinking about it after I posted that comment and realized that there was no tow strap on that winch line. Once I realized that, I figured it was the fishtank photo and that was Martin's winch. So, I will correct my prior statement to: It only took THREE winches to get him out to the road.
Good luck with the photos, I have a hard time shrinkingmine small enough to post. I was under the impression that as we improve the site, the picture size restrictions would be lifted. I read somewhere in a post by Joe that pic size was due to a bandwidth issue. But hey, that's just what I heard ;) .

And here I thought that was just a bed cover over the rear of Tom's TJ.....
Saw Tom and the Jeep the other day.
Its alive and running well.
It started right up once the plug wires were put on in the right order. They were put on wrong at the Lake. That may have been our issue after letting it dry out. He mistakenly placed the wires in the wrong order.
All's well and his fluids have all been changed. He's also learned how to pull his axles now. :D
