This is the response I got from Rusty as to my semi-nasty letter to him
concerning his inability to get things to his paying customers, we'll see
what happens.

The next posting from me is my reply to him.

I ordered my lift from kRusty, and I finally got half of it a week late. A
few days later, I got the other half. I bought the lift specifically so I
would have it for my yearly wheeling trip to southern california, and
although I ordered it about 3 weeks in advance, it was a pretty tight
squeeze. I realized that I didn't have the sway bar disconnects I bought,
and after waiting a few days for another package I called him. He readily
admitted he flat out forgot them. He said he would send them ASAP. After
they were a few days late, I called. He said he had sent them a few days
earlier. After some more time passed, I called again. He tried to sound
shocked, and blamed UPS. After calling him on several occasions and sending
him nasty emails every day, he said he would build another set and send them
out ASAP. He blamed the delay in geting back to me on, do I need to even
say... UPS? He said it took a week to track a package through them. I told
him I wouldn't pay him a dime for shipping since he screwed up, and he seemed
pretty receptive of the idea. Although hideously late, I finally got them.
I was, however, quite disappointed at the quality of the product. For $50 he
considers disconnects to be 2 bars welded together and rattle-can painted
with instructions on how to fabricate the other half of the product. Now
that's some quality stuff, eh?. I decided to spare myself the UPS stories
and just quietly never order from him again. That's my first impression of
kRusty's Off-Road, and being such a great impression I'll have to say it's
also going to be my last. Just thought I would share, and hopefully it'll
keep one of you from getting screwed.

Rusty,
If I seem very passionate and opinionated, it's because I am. Customer
service has been my profession for over 12 years now and it is something I
feel very strongly about. I wish to thank you for such a speedy reply and
will keep an open mind as to your abilities to correct UPS and their
apparent concerns when it comes to getting items to your customers. The
individuals I refered to will get a copy of your response and I will
continue to speak with them and others involved in this hobbie to remain
informed of the progress UPS is making. Again, thank you for taking the time
to personally answer my letter and time will tell if I, and others, have
misjudged you.

Sorry for the short notice, but a couple of my buddies and I will be
running
upper terminator tomorrow (sunday). We'll be meeting at the Circle-K on

Happy Valley Road and 35th Ave at 8am. We should be at the staging
area/
parking lot on Table Mesa Road around 8:30.

Upper Terminator is rated it 4.5. It requires good clearance, low gears
and
lockers - unless you really want to try and slam your rig through.

Anyone who wants to join us is welcome. Either meet us at the Circle-K
or at Table Mesa Road at the above times. 35th Ave doesn't go through
to
Happy Valley so you'll have to get on Happy Valley via I-17 or from the
west. The Circle-k is only about a half mile west of I-17.

If you prefer to meet us at Table Mesa Road, take I-17 to Table Mesa
road.
Exit I-17 and take Table Mesa Road west. Shortly after the pavement
ends
there will be a flat, open area that's used to park tow rigs and to air
down.
You can meet us here too.

Look for my turquoise YJ or a really tall black YJ.

All this stuff kind of sounds like American Metal all over again. I bought my
rock sliders from AM. The owner of the store was earnest, but overwhelmed. It
took almost two months before I recieved the sliders, but I was impressed by the
product quality and I don't slight AM for being late. I would rather wait for a
good product than have them rush out a lousy one. Today if you look at the
sliders you would probably say -- they aren't very well designed, but you have to
remember that 3 years ago finding any heavy duty hardware for ZJs was
practically impossible and AM's design was the best out there. Heck -- there
still isn't any really good stuff for ZJs out there! I still like the sliders
even though they are bent and the rocker panels on the ZJ are dented. They have
saved the sides of the old Grand Cherokee from being crushed on numerous
occassions and are still working fine. I'm happy.

You hear that a shop has a bad track record for shipping late, but you still buy
stuff from them. Who's at fault here? The shop or you?

P.S. I know all kinds of neat trails west of Tucson. In fact, one of
the trails near this area is like Elephant Hill, it has a switchback
that you have to back between two of the switchbacks. You can't turn.

Nothing especially difficult just spectacular vistas, scenery, and
solitude.

Sorry I didn't make it. <sigh>

I decided to finish the diagonistics on the ZJ's power windows instead. I lost
contact between the driver's door and the right rear window yesterday. I think I
just have a couple of worn out switches. These things are a real pain to
diagnose and repair. I also need to get the barn swamp cooler ready for another
summer.

Hope you all had fun.

Check the wiring from the door to the body. Hard to get at so I understand but most
likely is a broken one there. I think you can get a replacement for that section of
the wiring harness to replace all of the wires from the door switch to the main
wiring harness.
Hope this helps,

I have three window problems.
(1) I can't roll up the right rear window from the driver's door, but I can from the RR switch.
(2) The RF window is very slow/intermittent from the RF switch, but not from the driver's door.
(3) The nylon rollers in the LR window regulator fell apart last summer. A friend has offered to make me new ones so I don't have to buy a whole new regulator. I disconnected the motor to this window so it can't be accidentally rolled down.
Replacing that much harness is going to be a job so I hope it's just switches!

Wish me luck!

I know that in the later models, all of the window activities are
controlled thru the switches in the drivers door. If there is a
problem with the wiring going to the drivers door there will be a
problem that shows up elsewhere. The part of the harness I am
talking about is not very long from what I have read. It goes
from the switches, across the hinge area and plugs in under the
dash. Bear in mind, I have not done this myself, but do pay
attention to the experiences of others, in the event I encounter
the same problem some day.
A short term fix/diagnostic tool might be to get some contact
cleaner from Radio Shack (might be TV Tuner cleaner) and spray
the switches in question with it. I have used it on a Lincoln I
owned and if the switch is actually the problem it should
penetrate enough without taking the switch apart to see some sort
of a change that will indicate the problem. Hmm...hope that makes
sense. :) Change after spraying= bad switch....No change=other
problem.
And yes, good luck, I hate trying to find electrical problems. :(

There are several ZJ's in a junk yard here in Tucson, maybe a
source for parts?

So far my diagnostics are pointing in the direction of the wiring harness at the driver's door. It's starting to look like a broken wire. The harness section you are talking about doesn't look like it will be that difficult to replace.
Here's my findings so far:

Power Windows
1) The LF switch will roll the RF glass UP and DOWN quickly
2) The LF switch will roll the RR glass DOWN but not UP
3) The RF switch will roll the RF glass UP and DOWN slowly or not at all
4) The RR switch will roll the RR glass UP and DOWN quickly

Note: The LR window is out of commission until I get new nylon rollers for the regulator.

Power Locks
1) The LF switch will lock and unlock all doors except the RF door.
2) The RF switch will lock and unlock all doors except the RF door

I sent the schematic to my boyfriend with hopes that he will see something I'm missing.

I know that in the later models, all of the window activities are

problem with the wiring going to the drivers door there will be a
problem that shows up elsewhere.

Hi all,
I've a 3" lift kit from Dick Cepek that is currently
on my '94 ZJ that I would like to sale. It is about 6
months old and still perform very good and give a very
quiet & smooth ride on-road and off-road. I am in the
process of upgrading my vehicle to a 4.5" RE lift
(won't have them until 2 wks from now) hence, I will
not be able to have this 3" kit available until mid of
April.
Here are the parts breakdown for this 3" lift kit:
1. set of coils (3" higher than stock) (4)
2. set of DC shocks (4) w/ rubber boots
3. pair of lower control arms (front)
4. pair of lower control arms (rear)
All bushings on the c.a. and shocks are still in a
very good shape.

Also, I have a powertrak lockrite for Dana 35c (brand
new) that I would like to sale.

So for those who are interested in either of these
items, please make me an offer.

Chrysler made the harness so that that section could be
relatively easily replaced as it is a place where the wires are
continually flexed and prone to breakage. Don't know about you,
but I would much rather have one larger (wiring harness) problem
to fix than lots of little ones spread through the vehicle to
chase down.
Heard of one person who cut the sheathing on the wires away at
the hinge area and found the broken wire and spliced it. Would be
a temporary fix, but would also serve to fully diagnose the
problem.
Glad to hear you made some progress,
Ralph

My boyfriend suggested doing the same thing... cutting into the harness and looking for the elusive wire, and replacing it. Right now I am going to swap some the switches on the RF door to see if the problem changes. If it does, it's a switch problem, if it doesn't it's somewhere in the wiring. At least the Jeep is still drivable!
I might be contacting that salvage yard in Tucson.

Thanks for your help! I might need more!

find it. It is the only place I have found with any Grand

Throwing the liberal democrats out of office would do the trick. I've
been lurking in this group for a couple of weeks now, but I couldn't resist
answering this one. It was probably a rhetorical question, but I thought
what the heck. BTW, my name is Chuck Bryant, I live in south Scottsdale and
I have an 80 CJ-7 that I've owned for 15 years. It's been sitting for the
last 4 years waiting for a new motor. Well, now it's got one and a whole
lot of other new stuff too. I'm glad I found this group and I look forward
to my first trail ride with you.

Well, the FR window switch was bad. I replaced it with the one from the LR.
I cleaned up the master switch panel on the driver's door and that solved
the problem of not being able to roll the RR window up and down from the
driver's seat.

All that's left is the power lock problem. I think the actuator in the FR
door failed.

I think it's beer-thirty!
