A few years ago I ran the powerline trail with some members and we had a minor setback by some core sampling done. We had to find another way into the trail and speculated that the area may soon be one big whole in the ground. Powerline is a GREAT trip, it would be a shame to lose it.
Seems they found their great copper deposit... Luckily it is a somewhat protected area and the mining is gonna be done from underground. Kindof a 'upsidedown mine pit'. I'm not sure if this will effect the trail any but here is some reading on it..
First, the trip review

click on 'trips' then click on 'p' then click on 'powerline' and select the Feb 13th trip.
Second, the article in the paper

I really hope this area stays open. In the near future I'll make a point to lead a trip there. It's really a fantastic run and a beutifull area.
