Hi Bernie,
I will definitely be up there but having decided which
day I will be up there yet. Anyhow, I am looking
forward to do run these trails since I have never been
there before.

Hi Larry,
Not only that I disconnected the front swaybar on my
'94 ZJ but only the rear too in order to maximize the
articulation and any potential of ripping out the side
wall of my tires. The only adverse affects to the
handling capability is during a high wind conditions
and at high speed where you feel your vehicle tends to
become a little bit of unstable but I don't having any
problems at all. I guess, you will got used to it
once you get familiar with your vehicle performance.
Therefore, if it is to me, I suggest to disconnect it
since it is not only saves time for not having to
disconnect it; allows more degrees of freedom on the
articulation; and save $$ on not having to buy the
quick disconnect.
Hope this help.

Yeah, I remember now that you had removed the sways front & rear. I also
just remebered last weekend at Broken Arrow with us there was that red stock
TJ (Keith) that had removed his front & rear.

I'll remove it and see if I can get used to the new on-road manners.

Everyone, thanks for all the replies and have a great week.

Jim and all:

When I got the permit from Mesa Rangers Office they said that one of the reasons that they ask us to get the permit is so that they know what is going on. They said they would schedule an overtime crew to pick up the trash Sunday AM. I was at Butcher Jones at 8:15 AM on Sunday and sure enough along came the big green truck with three helpers. In an hour they had stuffed all of our loot into their compactor and drove off. So, the Ranger district did their part also.

Jon

The only downside to the day came at the very end (no, not the college
kids ripping around on their ATVs), but at the trash dumpster itself. By
the time we got there and contributed, the dumpster was pretty much
overfilled. While I aired back up, Dave noticed a Ranger nearby and went
to ask if she could arrange to get the trash dumped (turns out normal
pickup day is Monday). He explained what the AZ-VJC was doing, and that
there was more on the way, but that our attempt to clean up the place
doesn't work if the public only sees overflowing garbage at the park
itself. I think he got her attention with that, and she said she would
try to get it dumped sooner. Hope it happened.

The reason I was going to remove the front swaybar was that my tires are rubbing against it.

I have and use Tera disconnects. Originally, my tires were hitting the lower control arms so I adjusted the steering stops. I was still getting a little rub and realized when reconnecting on saturday that it isnt my control arms being hit, it is the swaybar when it is in the up 'disconnected' position. Have no fear people, you and your families are safe when Im on the road..... I will correct the problem in a proper manner and will no longer entertain the idea of removing the swaybar.

Thanks for all the comments,
Larry

Off-highway vehicles ABSOLUTELY have to be licensed and insured in AZ.
Even if they a trailered.

The good news is, the license will be cheap on an old CJ, mine is like
$57 for two years.

The other good news is that with the numerically small amount of miles
put on a trail rig, insurance is low. On my CJ added a grand total of
$12 a month to my existing automobile insurance policy.

I think the registration on my CJ runs about $13 a year. Having a
tag's a good thing too as many of the trails are off public roads
anyway.

We started Saturday morning with about 22 vehicles and picked up 8 or 10

Jeeps representing AZ_VJC in this effort and my thanks go out to all who
helped. I went back out Sunday and watched them haul the trash away from
the dumpster and the pile was bigger than it seemed. We visited a couple of
the Coves on Sunday and they looked great. With the rain we have been

but we were pretty spread out throughout the day and I was busy picking up
junk. Boy was that place a mess.

Special thanks to the cove leaders, Doug, Charles Bab****, and "Lefty" Len.
Thanks to Len, Peter Wirch and Brice (doesn't even own a Jeep) for lending

Subject: Re: 33" tires on stock rims...

XJs came with 15x6, 15x7, and 15x8 wheels depending on the options package. I
don't think you want to put a 33x12.50 on anything less than a 15x8.
33x12.50r15s on an XJ is getting extreme....

Thanks Linda,

Is there anyway I can tell which rims are on the XJ other than measuring. My friend is currently running 30x9.50x15 on the 5-spoke jeep rims. He currently has the stock suspension with RS9000's. It seems that the 33's will fit for road use, but would rub anywhere offroad. Any suggestions on size of lift to give enough articulation and clearance for the 33's. Thanks in advance.

Jason

I got in touch with Sandee McCullen. Here's the scoop.

The event starts at about 9:30am each day and will go until all participants
have finished the route they are assigned.

The entrance to the event is at Mineral Mtn Rd and US60. Sandee said there
will be a map that shows parking areas for the event. She said they may have
someone at the entrance on Saturday to help direct spectators.

I agree, you don't want the rims to be less than 8" wide. If it is narrower
the tire will not lie flat to the ground, this will cause the center of the
tire to wear out faster along with the fact that less traction will be
optained due to the limited amount of tread actually making contact with the
road.

Most likely the stock tires are 27 to 28 inches tall. To go to 33" tires
you are increasing up to 6 inches total height, only 3 inches closer to the
fender wells. Therefore I would suggest as an absolute minimum 3 inches.
Although to get better articulation I would suggest a 4" lift. In either
case you will have lots of work to relocate the transfercase etc... to
reduce the angle of the drive shafts. If you don't want all the extra work,
a 2" spacer lift would give enough room for 31x10.5 or even 32x11.5 with out
the need to relocate anything. If you stay with the 31's you might be able
to use 10" wide rims.

I have a 97 TJ, 2" spacer with 31x10.5 on 15x10 rims. My next tire will be
31x12.5 on the same rims.

Good luck I hope this info helps some.
