ACTION ALERT
To: All Multiple-Use Recreationists:
MULTIPLE USE RECREATIONISTS TO CALL-IN ON MARCH 7
Tell the Forest Service not to listen to the Extreme Preservationists
who
are spreading lies About Responsible OHV Recreation!!!
For many years, the extreme preservationist movement has stated that its
goal is to seek a permanent BAN of responsible off-highway-vehicle (OHV)
recreation on all public lands. They have been largely successful in
implementing a functional BAN of sustainable forestry in our national
forests and now they have targeted OHVs for that same fate.
On March 9, the anti-everyone-but-me crowd is planning a national
call-in
day to the US Forest Service urging them to (functionally) BAN all OHV
recreation on lands managed by the Forest Service. We have to upstage
them
in a massive way by preempting their strike with one of our own!
On March 7, the Blue Ribbon Coalition, along with a number of
multiple-use
recreation and resource groups, is planning a national PRO-OHV call-in
day.
The reason for having our call-in on March 7 is because if we don't
separate our call-in by at least one day...our legislators and federal
agencies might CONFUSE our call-in with that of our opponents.
This is a maximum effort campaign by our side and all of us need to make
sure that we burn up the email, phone, and FAX lines into the Forest
Service. Please reroute this ALERT to your own communication networks
so
that our voices will be heard by Chief Dombeck.
Please email, phone, and FAX your positive comments about how important
responsible OHV recreation is to millions of Americans. Be sure and
tell
the Chief about how OHV recreation relates to your family or business.
Here are some things you might include in your comments.
1) OHV users are protecting the environment by promoting user ethics as
outlined by groups and organizations such as; Tread Lightly!, the Blue
Ribbon Coalition, United Four Wheel Drive Associations, American Council
of
Snowmobile Associations, National Off Highway Vehicle Conservation
Council,
and the American Motorcyclist Association (list other groups in this
list
as well)
2) OHV users contribute thousands of man/woman hours each year on
volunteer
programs that protect and preserve our natural resources.
3) OHV users support managed recreational opportunities on Forest
Service
lands.
4) While most OHV users support the original intent of the 1964
Wilderness
Act to protect lands untrammeled by modern man, the lands currently
available for multiple-use must be managed and remain open for the
general
public to use and enjoy for a wide variety of opportunities.
5) OHV users do not support the Presidents roadless directive that could
CLOSE millions of acres of prime multiple-use recreation areas that have
established and legal recreational roads, trails, and dispersed
campgrounds.
6) Tell the Chief that you want him to ask for funds to adequately
support
the Forest Services recreation and trail programs. For many years the
Forest Service has said they support recreation but they have NOT asked
for
the appropriated monies to do so.
Please call, email, and FAX to the numbers below on March 7th (if you
can't
get through on the 7th continue on the 8th):
Chief Mike Dombeck Email: Mike.Dombeck/wo@f... FAX: (202)205-1765
Phone: (202)205-1661
Again, thanks for your time and effort to promote and protect
responsible
OHV recreation on our public lands. Don't let the Sierra Club, The
Wilderness Society, the Wildlands Center for Preventing Roads, and other
extreme preservationist groups cast aspersions on all the hard work that
you have done to make OHV recreation the family-oriented sport it is
today.

I'm with Doug on this. Why not just give them names and not email or postal addresses? They would then only need to refer to the list to see if someone is a member. We would have to update the list regularly. Membership cards are possible but that would be a lot of work for someone to create and maintain 200+ cards and a changing membership.

TrackLock rear and open front. I am having them installed at Off Road Unlimited-Scottsdale. The guy I deal with there is Aaron Dickinson 480-443-2559. They are doing F and R No Slips, 1 inch DayStar body lift and 1" Currie motor mount lift at the same time. Total bill with tax and labor is around $1400 if I recall. They do really nice work - they installed my 3" TerraFlex System also. The price for their NoSlips was as good as I could find anywhere but their labor is a bit steep. I have great confidence in their work. Aaron drives a fully rigged Jeep with Gigantic super swampers and what looks to be a 5 or 6" lift. I mean you could walk under the thing. He knows Jeeps.

I finally have the Powertrax No-Slip locker installed in the front of my TJ.
For those who don't know, I have a 99 TJ Sport with the stock D30 up front
and a D44 with Trash Loc in the rear. It doesn't make the clicking sound
that is common with the Lock Right and the only time that I can tell it is
there is when backing up while turning the wheels hard, it pops as it
disengages. On the highway you don't notice it at all and it doesn't have
any affect on steering. I had it put in yesterday and already have about 90
miles on it but haven't gotten to use it off-road yet. This weekend at the
coves will be it's big test. I plan on putting a No-Slip in the rear when
the LSD wears out a bit more and money permits. So after 90 miles, 60 of
which was on the highway, I am extremely satisfied with the No-Slip's on
road handling characteristics (or lack thereof).

it out themselves, and laminate it themselves... I'm no interwiz, but it

Proof... Show em your rig with the AZJVC decal.... Proof positive!!
This shouldn't be to much hassle with a little common sense. The only
folks who have access to our priveledges are members and we aren't
going to broadcast to the whole world our membership advantages so as
to attract those who would use the club just for discounts... even if
they did...it is still business and bucks for our supporting
merchants.. Don't you think??

We should be able to give them a membership list without giving them our

stop us from receiving spam or snail mail.

Subject: change in camping loc rock crawling event.
Hi All,
Sandee has asked that anyone volunteering/spectating and planning on camping
out to camp in one of the following places. These are big enough to handle
any size group and can handle motor homes , travel trailers, and car trailers.
So... keeping this in mind, I would like us to camp at the the Jamboree site
instead. The "new" jamboree site on the north side of the road offers shade
and the ability for us to camp quite a ways off the road, provides more
privacy, and away from the dust, traffic, etc.
Selection #2 is very limited in camping space and not my favorite area.
Selection #3 is okay, but several miles from the event.
1. Jamboree site on Cottonwood Canyon off Hwy 79 (M.P. 144-145) between
cattleguards only on State Trust Land.
2. On Mineral Mtn Rd off Hwy 60 (M.P. 216) between Hwy 60 and the fenceline
about 3 miles in. (There used to be a gate at this point...... it's no
longer there)
3. Judges and contestants can camp on State Trust Land across Hwy 60 from
the hotel. (M.P. 202) If they camp here I need to know so I can get them
"window passes" from State Trust Land Dept.
All areas are motorhome accessable.
Sorry for the change in camping location plans, but I would rather cooperate
with Sandee on this one. She put in an incredible amount of work to get this
thing going and I want it to be a success.

If anybody is interested I have a set of all 5 tires/wheels and stock shocks
for sale. These would work well to replace worn out sets or if you need to
put your Jeep back to stock before selling it.
These came of a 97 TJ. The shocks are in great shape, 2 tires have a little
life left, 2 are in good shape and one is brand new(yes it was the spare).
If not do you know of a tire/wheel place that might take them in trade so
that I can get a matching spare?
Thanks

Jay...we didnt forge any paths nor did we bypass any 'blocking' boulders.
The only time we left the trail was to play in the 'crack' but Im not even
certain you could consider that leaving the trail. It was a wide open area

No problems with the Pink Jeepers... in fact they were all very friendly. It

Subject: turning knuckles
Hi all --
I'm probably going to attempt rotating the knuckles on my front axle,
and would like any advice members here have to offer. I will probably
attempt making a jig similar to the one referenced on www.off-road.com
(http://www.off-road.com/~jweed/twistaxl.htm). I'm having to rotate
the knuckles because I'm using a ScoutII front axle (known to have
nearly 0* caster before a spring-over setup. Now that the axle is
mounted spring-over, it's obvious that I need to rotate the axle to get
the pinion angle reasonable. Of course rotating the pinion angle
decreases the castor (in my case it would create roughly -5* castor ...
undriveable)
I would rather not pay a shop to do the work, since I think I have the
tools and ability to do it myself. Any comments or hints would be
great!
TIA,
Jeff

Subject: Re: Club Member Discount - macromotive.com
That was my concern as well, and I have not given them any member lists
yet. The Privacy policy on their website seems pretty tight, but does
not specifically mention names and info gathered this way. The following
statement is directly from their website www.macromotive.com I am
willing to put up a 'sponsors' section without detailing what type of
discounts they provide, that is something that is better left for a
members only section. I will check with them to see if there is a way to
make sure that e-mail offers are not sent to individuals who don't want
more spam than they already get.
Macromotive.com is the internet arm of Off Road Unlimited, and some of
the prices I ran across last night while checking it out really do look
pretty good. If there is a club discount past that, I may really get
interested. Other than that, I haven't heard any good or bad about them.
If they will accept a list of names only, then I will try to submit just
that, but I don't know whether that would be feasible on their website or
not.

That's the beauty of the Internet, isn't it Mike? We had an issue awhile
back about a "Jeeper pleading for mercy", as it turned out, the guy had
shot a cop in cold blood, but somebody gained access to the list and
posted their drivel anyway. Weren't you the one who posted the real
story on that one?
Anyway, a suggestion: I am not overly familiar with the e-groups setup,
but is it possible to put potential new members in a 'probationary'
status until we can determine their intent? Possibly: Allow them to read
posts but not post or see the Members List until they get full access?
Allow them 'full access' by going on a run with at least 1-2 existing
AZ_VJC members?
I was on the initial Crown King run when we decided to avoid having dues
and such, and I remember the topic of 'sponsorship' came up, but most of
us were against having to be sponsored into the club, as most "real" 4WD
clubs require. However, if that small action will allow a real degree of
privacy to the existing membership, then aybe we should revisit the
concept.
Additionally, making 200+ membership cards costs money. Since we have
decided from the start and reaffirmed several times that we should pay no
dues, then who pays for the cards? Each cardholder? Another something
to think about...

One word of caution - I certainly like the idea of discounts...but am
concerned about our membership list going out to a commercial enterprise. It
certainly could lead to spam...with the posting of advertisements and such,

no interest in getting, either in my private e-mail or azvjc e-mail, ads and

Great news. I am having front and rear installed tomorrow and we can compare notes at the Coves. That should be a good test of the traction improvement also.

Subject: Stock Tires/Wheels and Shocks 4-Sale
If anybody is interested I have a set of all 5 tires/wheels and stock shocks
for sale. These would work well to replace worn out sets or if you need to
put your Jeep back to stock before selling it.
These came of a 97 TJ. The shocks are in great shape, 2 tires have a little
life left, 2 are in good shape and one is brand new(yes it was the spare).
If not do you know of a tire/wheel place that might take them in trade so
that I can get a matching spare?
Thanks
Chris

<<<<<<<<I noticed you guys are up on the "bald rock" area of Broken Arrow.
Is that
open now? For the longest time they (whoever that is) had placed large
bolders blocking the main entrance to that area. Looks like you guys forged
another path to get up there. Correct? >>>>>>>>>>>>
Jay...we didnt forge any paths nor did we bypass any 'blocking' boulders.
The only time we left the trail was to play in the 'crack' but Im not even
certain you could consider that leaving the trail. It was a wide open area
of red rock that had enough area to park dozens of jeeps.
No problems with the Pink Jeepers... in fact they were all very friendly. It
was a great time, Im ready to go again.
BTW, more pics for anyone who is interested...

If they will accept a list of names only, then I will try to submit just
that, but I don't know whether that would be feasible on their website or
not.

Subject: Re: Club Member Discount - macromotive.com
