It seems like no matter what I order in wheels from 4 Wheel Parts, I rub like a MOFO on my frame. I don't want to adjust my stops, as it will limit my steering more than the rubbing does. I also don't want to put on wheel spacers, as they're all aluminum and with the crawling I do, I'm worried about the studs stripping out in the spacers...Not to mention the extra load on the bearings... No one else I run with has this problem...I'm running the 35x12.50 Mud Terrains on 15x8 Rock Crawler steel wheels with 3 1/2" backspacing. Is there a comparible black wheel out there that I can get an even smaller backspace on, or what do I do? I'm getting SICK of this rubbing crap!!! Especially when I know that there are other TJ's out there running bigger than 35's and NOT rubbing...

HELP!!!

Where are you rubbing?

Tire rubbing control arm? Left or right side?

Control arms and frame on both sides (only when turning), but worse on the driver's side...

It sure makes tight turns in a small canyon really tough!!!

You have a decent amount of backspacing. This is a common issue when going to bigger tires. Not a lot you can do about it. Adjust your steering stops and be done with it. You will not lose much turning radius over what you have now. Just adjust them until the tires just barely don't rub.

I have M/T Classic II 15x10 wheels with Goodyear 35x12.5 MTRs on my Jeep TJ with no noticeable rubbing on the frame. I did not have to adjust my steering stops.

PS: The backspacing on the wheels is 3 5/8".

Right, and the fact that they are 15x10s means they will rub less because your tires do not bulge as far away from the edge of the rims as the 15x8s so less rubbing on the frame.

Well then...I guess that solves my dilemma... I thought going to 10" wide wheels would help but was told that it wouldn't... Thanks guys... I'm a long way off from buying new wheels, as I just got these ones 6 months ago, but when I do get new ones they'll be 10" wide...:D

I just had to adjust my steering stops this weekend. I went to 35 x 14.5 15 Super Swamper SSR's. I rubbed on both sides on the control arms with 10" american eagle rims. I think my back spacing is 3.5". Question.....Do the steering stops come from the factory with the nut tack welded? I had to buy new 3/8 x 24 x 1 1/4 bolts and nuts because mine were tack welded.

Yes, they are tack welded at the factory

They're pretty beat up already, but hold air just fine, on the trail aired down and on the highway... You're welcome to them when I finally get the new ones...

Dan, you're not alone. My new 35 bfg muds on my 8'' rims rub worse than the inner thighs of Oprah! There's nothing worse than hearing that clanking sound of your tire tread rubbing against your control arms. Kinda reminds me of when I used to clothes-pin baseball cards between the spokes of my bicycle as a kid.

As others have said, adjust the stops, go with 10's, or just turn the radio up!
