I've badly dented my YJ 4.0 oil pan and need to replace it. I bought a used one in excellent shape but some research tells me this may not be a job I want to tackle myself because of gasket issues. Can anyone recommend a shop on the east side you'd trust to do a job like this? Again, I have the pan, just need someone to put it on.

Thanks,
Bill

I think you should take this on yourself, unless there is unforeseen problems with th YJ pan. I own a XJ and would rather do the install myself, than pay a shop $150-250 to it for me. The rear main seal is the only slow point to this procedure, but if you take your time and with a litttle patience I don't think it would be a problem. If I have no clue of the difference between the XJ and YJ oil pan please let me know, but given that you would save yourself a substantial amount of cash doing this yourself and if you put that money for something better(upgrades), I think the question answers itself!

Ditto...

I just replaced my oilpan last month in my TJ (4 banger) and it was a sinch...It was a one piece rubber gasket on mine with no problems...

On a side note, there's no immediate need to replace it, unless it's leaking...Mine was dented and gouged to the point that it was one BIG dent on the bottom. It was caved in BADLY... When I replaced it, there was still about an inch of space between the pickup and the highest spot of the dent. I'm not saying not to get it done soon, just saying don't panic...;)

Well a undented oil pan will hold more oil Right? so I would replace it. only depending on how big the dent is... Here in the desert we need as much oil as we can carry!!

Well thanks for the notes. I dented it in...oh, October of last year...and it is leaking some. I finally sealed it up and then realized that I sealed too close to the drain plug and now I can't get it off (doh!). Oh well, it's time I get it done anyway. I just got the parts, including a rear main seal at Darner. All OEM, $50 total for both seals (oil pan and rear main) with the club discount. NICE!

After I'm done replacing the oil pan, I'll be ordering the Nth Degree 4.0 oil pan skid: http://www.nthdegreemobility.com/EngineOilSkid.htm
