...And all those other hyphenated abbreviations...

Anyway...One of my c-clips on my new front axle u-joints popped off yesterday after an otherwise uneventful trail run. The cap is still in the axle, but the rubber grommet that acts as a dust cover/bearing retainer is starting to separate from the cap itself. My buddy has a c-clip for me, but my question is this:

Am I able to keep this u-joint and just reseat the grommet and put in the new c-clip, or do I need to replace the u-joint (AGAIN!!!)? Like I said, everything is still intact, just not the c-clip. I can see the very tips of the needle bearings and can hear a slight ticking coming from that wheel, but the cap isn't hitting anything, as I baby it and don't have far to drive and am able to drive at very slow speed. Not to mention, I have the big socket, extension and hammer to tap the cap back in if it starts to come out.

Any suggestions are VERY welcome...

Thanks for all the helpful words of wisdom...NOT!!!

When I got up under the Jeep yesterday to put the new ring on, I found that the cap had actually broken, causing the clip to pop off. I'll be getting a new joint...

I guess this just means it's time to get some trail spares...

Anyone know where to get a good price on some upgraded complete (read: alloy) front shafts (inner and outer) with decent u-joints for a 97 TJ (D30 non-ABS), so I can make my current ones my trail spares?

Simon???
