OK guys and gals, I have a new trailer. Question is. What does everyone use for tie downs to keep the Jeep from flipping off?
How do you tie your jeep down? Where do you hook the tie downs on the Jeep? Frame? Axle?

AND, where do I get them for a good price?

TIA

I use chains usually with a 10K Nylon Ratchet strap for extra safty. I know plenty of guys that tow with just the Nylon straps and have never heard of anyone losing there Jeep. I recommend using at least one Chain and Chain binder.

As far as attatchment points to the Trailer with the Nylon straps it is easy to get it around just about anything axles usually work or i wrap it over and around the front bumper usually throught the Tow hooks. The back i hook around the corners of the Rear Bumper and then down to the Trailer. I am sure there are all sorts of differant ways and probably better ways but this has always worked for me.. another thing i have seen is chain the back down then spool out your winch, hook it to the frame of the trailer then wind it in till the chains get tight... Again i am sure you will get other opinions .. as far as a good place to get this stuff i say Harbor freight or Northern Equipment they both have 100's of styles of straps and Chain binders..or there is always the local NAPA but they can be pricy... Good luck

The guys that I wheel with, that trailer there rigs, secure the Jeep to the trailer using the axle and the big (really big) ratchet straps. Securing the axle to the trail lets the Jeep's frame ride on the suspension and from what I've been told, makes for a better handling trailer (it makes sense to me).

Given Harbor Frieghts quality control issues on some things, I would opt for a good set of tie downs from some place like NAPA. For the difference in price (maybe $75), I would feel better with the NAPA tie downs.

Thanks Stu. I found this site on the net.

I will check around locally also, but this looks like the equipment I need.

Bill I use axle tie down rachet straps that I got at 4 wheelers. They work great. Then for safety I also hit the front and rear frame and just snug it with regular rachet straps that I got at WalMart. So far no trouble but remember the straps will stretch the first couple times so check them often. After that they are pretty stable.

Let me know what you wind up putting together for your Jeep/Trailer rig. I'm in the same situation myself. Have to figure out the strapping/chaining situation

I would suggest making a direct pull, and not looping the straps around bumpers, etc. I use 4 Wal-mart straps $30 each on all 4 corners, and pull the jeep suspension down about an inch. Than use 2 axle straps front and rear, and make them snug but not tight. I dont have a problem at all. I tried the loop around bumper thing, and ripped 2 straps, so I make sure all the pulls are straight.

It sure is a good feeling to know that all you need to do is get it back the the trailer, and your home.
