Subject: WTB: stock YJ spring packs - $100

Hi all --

I'm looking for a full set of stock Wrangler YJ leaf packs.
Specifically, I'm looking for two 5 leaf and two 4 leaf packs.

I'm willing to pay $100 if I can find all four packs in good shape here
in the valley.

Please email a reply if you're interested.
Jeff Meade (jeffm @ desertwave.com)

PS - Greg C, I assume either you don't have them or you changed email
accounts because I didn't get a reply from the last two emails I sent
to you about those packs you have.

I don't know about Saturday, stay tuned
I'm sure something will happen.

We are doing the Gap this Sunday.
This is a Tucson Rough Riders 4WDC run (work run)
Every one is welcome to join us.

We are meeting at Oracle and Magee (Traders Joe's)
8AM
CB channel 4
I still rate this a strong 4
The "step" is the hardest obstacle on the trail
it took out my front driveshaft, 02 sensor, and
helped me get two new tires.
It claimed someone else's :) front axle too.
Bring a lunch, plenty of water
and be prepared, as this can turn into a
looong run too.

Private Financial Influence On U.S. Environmental Policy To Be Focus Of
Congressional Oversight Hearing

Washington, D.C. - The growing relationship between large foundations,
national environmental organizations and the federal government in the
development and implementation of U.S. environmental policy will be the
focus of a Congressional oversight hearing on Tuesday.

The hearing by the U.S. House Subcommittee on Forests and Forest Health is
scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 15th, EST in 1334 Longworth HOB.

A live audio broadcast of the hearing will be available on the Committee
website at <http://www.house.gov/resources/audio.htm.(http://www.house.gov/resources/audio.htm.)>

Tuesday's Witness List

- Ron Arnold, Executive Vice President, Center for the Defense of Free
Enterprise, Bellevue, WA - Diana White Horse Capp, Chairman, Upper Columbia
Resource Council, Curlew, WA - Jeff A. Lyall, Disabled Outdoorsman,
Catawba, VA - Antonio DeVargas, Officer, Rio Arriba County Land Planning
Dept., La Madera, NM

U.S. Rep. Helen Chenoweth-Hage (R-ID), the Chairman of the Subcommittee,
said the purpose of this hearing is to analyze the relationship among large
foundations, environmental groups, and the federal government in the
development and implementation of environmental policy - primarily using
the Administration's Forest Service Roadless Initiative as a case study.
The impacts of these policies on local communities will also be explored.

"Environmental groups are relying more and more on wealthy non-profit
foundations to fund their operations," Chenoweth-Hage said. "According to a
recent article in the Boston Globe, foundations invest at least $400
million a year in environmental advocacy and research. The largest
environmental grant-maker, the $4.9 billion Pew Charitable Trusts, gives
more than $35 million annually to environmental groups.

"Advocacy for national forests policy initiatives appears to be largely
financed by charitable foundations through tax-free grants. For

example, the Clinton-Gore Administration's 'Roadless Initiative' may
withdraw up to 60 million acres of National Forest lands from multiple
use. This initiative appears to have been organized and funded by
charitable foundations, primarily the Philadelphia-based Pew Charitable
Trusts.

"Since September 1998, Pew has given the National Audubon Society more than
$3.5 million in tax-free grants to organize the Heritage Forests Campaign,
a coalition of about a dozen environmental groups. The sole objective of
the Campaign appears to be the creation of widespread public support for
the Clinton-Gore administration's initiative to restrict access on 60
million acres of national forest lands.

"The Heritage Forests Campaign illustrates several potential problems with
foundation-financed environmental political advocacy, namely the lack of
fair, broad based representation and the absence of accountability.

"Policies like the Roadless Initiative that are implemented through
backroom deals with unelected bureaucrats are trampling on property rights,
shutting down industries, reducing recreational opportunities and causing
economic distress in rural areas. Several of today's witnesses will talk
about how current federal land management policies are hurting them, their
neighbors and their communities," Chenoweth-Hage said.

Subject: Log Coral Trail Trip

This weekend Sharkey and I ran the Log Coral Trail from SR87 to Bartlet
Lake. This was our first time running this trail and it was quite an
experience. The first part of the trail (close to SR87) is rated as a class
4 and has a fair number of obstacles to get around. It should be noted that
Sharkey was able to get through the class 4 area of the trail with only 2
minor hang-ups, the amazing part is that his TJ is stock with 31" tires and
quick disconnects. (Nice job Sharkey). The trail then changes to a series of
sandy washes on to way to the Log Corral. The view from the Corral is
incredible! The trail then continues down to Bartlet lake where you can
catch FR393 and head NorthEast to Sunflower or Southwest to the river. If
you head south on FR393, you can only go about 4 miles before you arrive at
a sign saying that the trail is closed from Dec 1 to June 31 due to nesting
eagles. At this point we turned around and headed down to the river looking
for a place to cross (that was an adventure in itself!) We ended up the day
by running FR42 which was almost completely deserted. Once other note, a
number of areas on FR42 were much more rutted than they were only 2 weeks
ago! (bad news).

Enjoy the pictures!

They're running 33X14 Boggers and ramp 1250! The stuff they did isn't hard to

I think I got it...then again, that's what I thought yesterday as well.
A couple answers pointed toward various problems with the startere, the
rest seemed to point toward the coil or the ignition switch. I checked
out the starter, since it was there. I removed it, and noted how
terribly disfigured the starter cable was. After 11 years, it had a
little bit of corrosion toward the end, and was about half there. I
chopped it out and took the starter to be tested and get a new cable.
Starter tests good, and it has worked three times in a row now. Acid
test is going to be tomorrow morning when I see if it still starts for
work.

Brian,
I saw that someone has come up up a rear coil spring conversion kit for the XJ's, I think it was in the last JP magazine. I bet that it would flex well and the axle may not pivot as far to the rear. Good luck with your mods.

There is not a ramp in Flagstaff....I guess I need to build one....This
weekend I will be installing the new rear springs and the revolver
shackles.....that should really loosent up the rear....I will want to bet I
should be somewhere around 950 to 1050 after I complete the comversions.

Thing was never endangered in the first place. Just a way to throw the
logging industry for a loop. You can thank the Audobon for this lie.
