I was out there in the morning. I think the group picked up enough car parts

The leafs are definitly getting removed, I had a couple of spots at Parker where my front articulation was working well but I would get air under my rear stiff Posi and that was it. Then all the work was on the front drive. Which by the way can pull you into things in the back...and break stuff. Spring over seems the way to go to get to a better comfort level on the tougher trails. The added clearence would be handy to.

Spring over. Allot of people talk negatively about "axle wrap-up" , Try real hard to ignore them. We'll still want to remove a few leafs out of your pack to soften them up a bit. Drivelines brake lines E brake cables will all have to be lengthened. Steering will have to be beefed up. You're going to want to put in heavy duty axle shafts in the front to spin those 35" tires. The spring over is going to lift you about 5", so you probably won't need to cut your fenders. You would probably be better off with offset wheels to push your tires as far away from the JEEP as possible, though. This will increase stability, and the amount of mud you pitch all over everything. I'm still toying with the idea of a spring over with stock springs. If we do this, it keeps you lower, Which is good as far as center of gravity, but doesn't help you much in the tires rubby da tubby department. Overall gains in height would be about 1" - 2", so we would have to bust out "pinky" the sawzall, and still do all the previously stated mods. The true benefit to this is soft flat springs ride and articulate better than arched ones. Tried to get you SOA before you bought that lift, but you were convinced your springs were shot. Like I said, though, I'm still undecided on pulling a few leaves out and SOA, or switching back to stock and SOA. I think the determining factor here is ride quality. So lets just pull a few springs out and see if you like the ride quality better, first. Then we'll make our decision. Either way, it's allot of work. Heck, with 2 leaves missing the thing might become a flex monster too. I have a ramp here at the house, so we can test our work. Just built it out of the old squat rack today. It isn't much to look at, but it should hold up just fine. Another benefit of spring over is greater ground clearance due to no springs, U-bolts, shock mounts below the axle to hang you up. Body lifts are ok, the only reason I did it was because it saved me $1500.00 on a new rear axle assembly I would have needed to go SOA. This is about the only time I would ever recommend one. The spring over will help you in the ground clearance dept. immensely, too.

Yep, 35's will need the space. The other question to decide is spring over or body lift?
Either way it is Billy with the Sawzall........

Well, after all of the fun at Parker I have seen the light. Being locked in the front is fine for the loose stuff and 3-3.5 but with a manual trans and carb it is locked at both ends and 35's for me. Man was it a blast at Parker and I really learned some stuff while there. One is to chain your motor so if your mounts fail you do NOT chew your radiator. Two, low, low gears are the ticket for those rocks. Three, RPM is death to a stock front axel Ujoint when it grabs rock and is locked.
So, now all I have to do is beg and grovel for the funds to accomplish this slight upgrade.:-) By the way, Bill Mish and Greg Banfield helped me get my TeraLow4:1 in before the trip and I would have been in trouble without it.
Sorry my 33 BFG/MT's are not for sale, they are going on my Dodge 4x4 V10. Now I have to decide on which 35's to go with and which rear locker.
The fun never ends..

I recently replaced my Dana35c rear axle housing on my '98 TJ. The removed
axle has the factory Tracloc LSD in it which was still giving good
performance when the axle was pulled. I also have the matching 3.73 ring
and pinion gears for the front Dana30 axle. Mileage was in the 18K range
when everything was pulled off the TJ (most of that was seen on the street).

To the best of my knowledge, the D35's ring and pinion are still setup
correctly, which would save you about $250 in labor cost.

Asking ??? (make me a reasonable offer)

yes - I feel that I am getting some additional rear articulation - seemed to
ride more level, and I got a bit more flex out of it...but not really
dramatically so. I think the main benefit is unloading the stock bar -
taking stress off the brackets, and allowing you to really dial in the rear
axle (in terms of position). I'm glad I got it.

For Sale - NV231 T-Case from a 98 TJ (23 spline - input). It had 22,500miles
on it when removed. I ran it using synth DexronIII - and it's in perfect
shape. Comes w/ shift linkage and shifter - at no extra cost :o). It's set
up for a CV driveshaft and SYE).

$475 if you pick it up
$500 plus shipping, if I haul it to UPS

A fellow Jeeper (Steve w/YJ & Revolvers) posted this thread on Jeeps
Unlimited....

"Well it happened...My favorite wheeling area was officially closed
yesterday. This place I speak of is affectionatly known as "The River Bed"
and is about 1.5 miles from my house. On weekends you would normally see
about 50-60 Jeeps and trucks as well as 30-40 cycles, quads, rails and many
other types of off road vehicles. You had quite a diverse terrain to choose
from, anywhere from granite boulder hills to large mud pits and everything
in between including a 200' deep sand pit. This was my playground
everyweekend for the past two years...it was a gathering place for people to
test their rigs and to meet to talk about the next trail run we were going
to do.
No more...I was outside working on my CB yesterday and my neighbors stopped
by and asked me what happened to my playgroung..."What do you mean?". They
informed me that there were huge cement pillars and barracades closing off
the entrance with "No Tresspassing" boldly painted on them.

I couldn't believe this so I had to drive by to check it out. Sure enough,
completely blocked off...it brought a tear to my eye."

He is talking about the area out on Cambelback in the 115ish ave. I bet it
is the most popular offroad area in the state.

I seen this to. I get into the river bed from Glendale Ave. I headed south
for the two miles and almost couldn't get out of the river bed. deputy
sheriff asked what I was doing in the river bed, that it was posted. I just
told him I went in at Glendale and saw no signs.

Just a weekly reminder of an upcoming trip to Broken Arrow. It's a very
short/easy loop trail that takes anywhere from 1 hour to 2.5 depending on
traffic and stops.

There was a stock range rover on it today... other than a little slipping of
his small street tires and some scraping because of the long wheel base, he
did fine. This could be a good trip for first timers or stock jeeps.

I met up with the head Pink Jeep tour fella... Jim was a great guy to chat
with and has no problems with us being there as long as we are responsible.
The rest of the Pink Jeep drivers were polite... to some extent.

I thought the Agua Fria NM was north of Black Canyon City -- closer to the
Sunset Point Rest Stop. I didn't think it included any of the West Phoinex
portion of the river bed. I thought that the area that has been used as an
impromptu play area was privately owned.

Regardless of its status I think taking down the barriers would be considered
trespassing and not only could get you in a lot of trouble but give the entire
OHV community a back eye and bad press. This is the last thing we need!

Of course, all the folks who regularly use this area could get organized and
take action. The pen is stilll mightier than the backhoe!

Hi all,

I need information about trails that are regularly used that have permanent
water features (springs, creeks, lakes, etc.).

The only ones I can think of are the pools near Chiva Falls and Red Creek. Any others?

Thanks!
Linda
