Send a URL. I want to see this! What sort of articulation does it have? I
lost a bit going to 33s on ZJ. Grrrrrr! I had to put in the front bump stops
to keep the body off the tires and to keep the front coils/shocks from over-compressing.

If y'all want to talk to someone who has done it, I'll get you in touch with
a friend in Albuquerque. He has two cameras mounted under his
Cherokee....one under the front bumper looking at the passenger side front
tire/diff, and another on the trans crossmember looking back at the rear
diff/passenger side rear tire. When I last saw him, he had two 2" square
LCD screens mounted on the dashboard. His only complaint is that the
resolution and refresh rate on the LCD screens isn't good enough to be
useful at any speed over 2 or 3 mph.......they work wonderfully for slow
rock crawling though.

Scott Lindsey (owns a 4Runner but is a member of this group) has them on his
Toy. I haven't heard anything bad. I hear Big-O has a better insurance policy
(it's free). I paid $127 for my BFG MTs at Discount. And I pay $23 each time
they replace the tire (new insurance policy plus the cost of mounting and
balancing). I have replaced two of them due to sidewall hits.

Hope that helps! I wonder who makes the 34x10.50r16s mentioned in the one
site? My boyfriend thinks it's a Michelin tire.

Just my input into Scott Lindseys big 0 33s. I have been out with him
wheeling, the big o brand seems to hold up pretty well. I do run a
33x12.50 on a 89 wrangler yj with a 5 inch lift. With the air down Scotts
rig did suprisingly well on trail 42 and on the power line. Scott uses his
rig for both on and off road and is very happy with the Big 0 33's. Sorry
if I am speaking for him I know he is busy right now, Scott is a good
friend of mine. take care

chrome type with a hitch. It had BFG ATs in either 32" or 33" size. Wheels
were 6 spoke (chrome?) variety.

Anyone 'fess up to owning it?

Well, after all of the fun at Parker I have seen the light. Being locked in the front is fine for the loose stuff and 3-3.5 but with a manual trans and carb it is locked at both ends and 35's for me. Man was it a blast at Parker and I really learned some stuff while there. One is to chain your motor so if your mounts fail you do NOT chew your radiator. Two, low, low gears are the ticket for those rocks. Three, RPM is death to a stock front axel Ujoint when it grabs rock and is locked.
So, now all I have to do is beg and grovel for the funds to accomplish this slight upgrade.:-) By the way, Bill Mish and Greg Banfield helped me get my TeraLow4:1 in before the trip and I would have been in trouble without it.
Sorry my 33 BFG/MT's are not for sale, they are going on my Dodge 4x4 V10. Now I have to decide on which 35's to go with and which rear locker.
The fun never ends..

Subject: Cleanup Weekend Report

Barry and I went out about 1:00 today to pick up trash at
the designated area. The Game & Fish had a trailer there
with a display rack of many different booklets. We signed in
and were given plactic bags. We drove towards the powerlines
past the dumpster looking for trash. After seeing one errant
can, we stopped. It was then easier to see trash as it was
usually at the bases of the trees and bushes. We filled 3
bags and 1/2 the bed of the truck with fencing, 1/2 of a 55
gal drum, a cabinet, the tub of a washing machine, and a
4x6x8 beam.
Now you wouldn't think this would be enjoyable, but believe
it or not, Barry and I had a good time. The weather was
perfect, and it was nice to get out in the desert. Between
whispers of "ouch, ouch, ouch" as we were scratched trying
to get those bottles under the catclaw, was a yell of "hey,
cool!" as Barry found some weird gear shaft that looked
brand new. I learned not to pick up the white paper towels,
as they were used for .... bathroom duties...oh, well.
The area is used extensively by dirt bikes, atv's, and
rails. Very nice riding area. There was a large dust devil
as we were collecting trash---how can people complain about
dust? Closing this area will not help the dust
situation...much.
Anyway, participating in a cleanup is more enjoyment than
work. We both said we looked forward to the next cleanup
weekend. I think there needs to be way more participation
than we had this weekend though.

Hi Ross,

Sounds like you had way too much fun at Parker!

I just got back to the house from a nice run with the Mrs. today. It was the first day out after installing the 4.56 gears, new Dana 44 rear axle with Detroit Locker, and the Detroit Truetrac in the front axle. (these were the major changes from 3.73 with an open front and a factory LSD rear)

I can only comment on the before and after as to how the TJ performed. I am completely happy with the Detroit Locker. It is very well mannered on the street (I don't ever find snow so don't care about manners on that). With the new BFG MTs, that combo hooked up really good. In fact, I was fortunate enough to strap a Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 today twice...once after he high centered his frame (I pulled him backwards off the ledge....and then went ahead of him and pulled him up and over. I did have a slight traction problem, but all 4 tires were digging.....he was just a bit bigger than I was and when the frame is hitting in 3 spots, that is a lot of dead weight. A different angle with the strap fixed it.

Anyway, I ran the TJ through some other 3.5, 4 obstacles....ones that I had avoided (or gotten stuck on) with the previous setup and the TJ never even spun a tire today. The Detroit Locker has been around a long time and has a great reputation. Cheaper than the ARB and no spare parts to carry. I thought long and hard when I was getting mine...ARB or Detroit....ARB or Detroit....I finally started reading around and although I could find postings in NGs about ARB failing to engage, air line problems, solenoids failing, etc., I never found a posting that said my Detroit died today. That made up my mind.

Good luck on what ever you get and your new 35s!

The Az G&F are planning more cleanups in the same area on March 3-4 and
April 7-8 from 9:00am to noon.

I was out there in the morning. I think the group picked up enough car parts
to build one!

"Well it happened...My favorite wheeling area was officially closed
yesterday. This place I speak of is affectionatly known as "The River Bed"
and is about 1.5 miles from my house. On weekends you would normally see
about 50-60 Jeeps and trucks as well as 30-40 cycles, quads, rails and many
other types of off road vehicles. You had quite a diverse terrain to choose
from, anywhere from granite boulder hills to large mud pits and everything
in between including a 200' deep sand pit. This was my playground
everyweekend for the past two years...it was a gathering place for people to
test their rigs and to meet to talk about the next trail run we were going
to do.
No more...I was outside working on my CB yesterday and my neighbors stopped
by and asked me what happened to my playgroung..."What do you mean?". They
informed me that there were huge cement pillars and barracades closing off
the entrance with "No Tresspassing" boldly painted on them.

I couldn't believe this so I had to drive by to check it out. Sure enough,
completely blocked off...it brought a tear to my eye."

He is talking about the area out on Cambelback in the 115ish ave. I bet it
is the most popular offroad area in the state.

Larry, it wasn't to bad getting it out and ready to swap. Bill did the gear swap for me and since the transfer case only had 60k on it and very little if any in 4x4 we only switched the gears. Tera does make a kit for the Dana and if I had more wear we would have put it in. It worked like a champ on the first try. My axels have 3.33's and that is really not going to work. When Im go to 35's I will need to go 4:10 or 4:56.

Yep, 35's will need the space. The other question to decide is spring over or body lift?
Either way it is Billy with the Sawzall........

I went to the cleanup on friday evening and took out 5 bags of trash and 8
tires. I understand that there were more people there earlier in the day,
but they had apparently packed up and left just prior to my arrival.
Compared to how it sounds, picking up trash in the desert isn't half bad and
I would have come back today (saturday) but I had already made plans.
Brian
PS -- so this Coves cleanup is on march 4th and 5th, right? I'll have to
see about keeping those days open 'cuz I'm ready for more.
