Subject: A little more info on the Havasu 4x4 event
I just got some info on it. It's March 10-12 near Lake Havasu. There
are trail runs Fri/Sat and a poker run Sun. Runs range from 1 to 5 in
difficulty. Registration is $75 per vehicle and goes to local charities.
Deadline to register is Feb 15th.

"Sandee McCullen" <McCullen@w...>
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO 4-WHEELERS ..................
The State Land Department and Game & Fish NEED YOUR
HELP...............
There has been a big push to close a number of acres of State Trust
Land in
and/or near our cities boundries due to the recent directive re
"Dust
Abatement". There is a large section of State Trust Land in the
Apache
Junction area (Gold Canyon actually) that is used mainly by our
fellow ATV
and motorcycle off-highway enthusiasts but local residents want it
closed
due to "dust".
The State Land Dept and Game & Fish have joined together in putting
together
a "control & education" plan in an effort to keep this area
available to
off-highway use. If they cannot get it cleaned, signed and
education out it
most likely will be closed.
THEY NEED OUR HELP.......... They are planning a CLEAN-UP and
EDUCATION
project on February 11 & 12, 2000.
They are asking anyone and everyone interested in Off Highway use to
show up
and help clean the area (approx. 1200 acres) and distribute State
Land
Permit information to the users. They have this planned on one of
the worst
weekends possible for ASA4WDC but here's the plan....... The Land
Agencies
will furnish the trash bags and a large dumpster........ they want
us to
patrol the area for trash, pick it up, and take it back to the gate
area for
removal. There are some large pieces needing to be "dragged" or
"hauled"
back but most is just trash. 4-Wheel Drive is not required.
Friday, FEB. 11, 2000: 9:00 a.m. - ???? Anyone that can make it
out for a
few hours. Anyone retired that can spend some time??
Saturday, FEB 12 2000: As many ASA4WDC members as possible to work
from 9:00
a.m. - 12:00 p.m......... The ASA4WDC Delegate meeting is at 1:00
that same
afternoon just a couple of miles down the road from the cleanup so
hopefully
all the club delegates and board members can get moving a little
earlier and
spend some time at the clean up prior to the meeting.
For the afternoon cleanup I would direct this
request to those
recreationists that are not members of the ASA4WDC......... Virtual
Jeep
Club, independent 4-Wheelers, the organized clubs that are not
associated
with the ASA4WDC. Your help would be greatly appreciated.........

2000 52; year of monuments?
Several sites on list, Babbitt says
By Lee Davidson(http://deseretnews.com/dn/staff/card/1,1228,34,00.html)
Deseret News Washington correspondent
WASHINGTON 52; President Clinton's creation of three new national monuments last month just may have been the beginning.
Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt told the Deseret News Monday the administration is looking at creating more in Colorado, Arizona, California and Oregon by the end of the year, although some could become national parks or conservation areas instead.
He said that helps show "our motto for the year 2000: Lame ducks have wings," and the Clinton administration hopes to use its last year to push public lands protection.
He made the comments in a briefing outlining the Interior Department's 2001 budget, adding the budget for its U.S. Bureau of Land Management has the ability to handle more protected areas.
The Interior budget also earmarks millions for Utah ranging from a new visitors center at Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument to new Wasatch Front earthquake sensors, dam safety projects, buying more land for Grand Staircase and funding to help complete the Central Utah Project.
Babbitt said the new national monuments under consideration are mostly on BLM land, and all likely would be administered by the BLM 52; not the National Park Service.
"Grand Staircase was the first BLM monument," he said. "The second, third and fourth were established a month ago" when Clinton created the Grand Canyon-Parashant and Agua Fria monuments in Arizona and the California Coastal National Monument.
Babbitt said the main significance 52; besides protecting specific sites 52; is that the BLM (once jokingly called the Bureau of Logging and Mining) is becoming a conservation agency akin to the Park Service and the National Wildlife Refuge System.
Budget documents proclaimed that BLM's handling of Grand Staircase in Utah shows it can manage monuments well 52; even though it has been controversial with some Utahns 52; and that lays a foundation for handling more BLM monuments.
It said actions included completing "the largest land exchange in continental U.S. history to consolidate federal and state ownership within Utah . . . (and) a management plan that will serve as a model of cooperation." It said that was done while observing "the valid, existing rights of commercial operations within the monument's boundaries."
Babbitt did not say where all new monuments or parks may be. "My remarks were meant to be kind of obscure," he joked.
"It's no secret that we are discussing with the Colorado delegation several sites including a very exciting possibility for a new national park in southern Colorado." Babbitt has previously toured various Indian ruins in Colorado plus lands adjacent to Colorado National Monument, just over the Utah border, to consider whether it should be expanded. Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, R-Colo., also has proposed a new Canyons of the Ancients National Conservation Area.
Last year Congress converted the existing Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Monument to a national park.
Babbitt also noted, "We are working with Congresswoman (Mary) Bono (R-Calif.) in the Palm Springs area over the future of the Santa Rosa Mountains."
He also noted that Rep. Jim Kolbe, R-Ariz., has introduced a bill to create the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area near Tucson, Ariz. 52; and the administration will work with him to look at protection possibilities there.
Babbitt also said the administration is looking at possibilities for monuments or other designations in Oregon to protect such areas as the Steens Mountain.
Talk of more national monuments could help pass a bill by Rep. Jim Hansen, R-Utah, to require a president to consult with local leaders for at least 60 days before declaring a monument 52; which Republicans say Clinton failed to do with recent monuments. Hansen's bill already has passed the House but not the Senate.
Babbitt said in December the administration has no current plans to create additional monuments in Utah because he has been working closely with Gov. Mike Leavitt on a proposal to protect 1.1 million acres of wilderness in Utah's west desert and he did not want to poison that work.
Besides the west desert protection, Rep. Chris Cannon is expected to introduce again this week a bill to create a national conservation area in the San Rafael Swell. However, environmental groups and the administration have opposed it in the past, saying it does not create enough formal wilderness in that area.
The BLM 2001 budget proposes a $1.35 million increase over this year "to address wilderness land use plan amendments in Utah and Colorado."

Parts forsale:
1) I've a brand new Powertrak Lockright (2310s2 w/ ABS
27 spline) for Dana 35C that I'd like to sale for $200
as compared to the retail price of $285. I've changed
my mind and would like to install an ARB locker near
the future instead).
2) With an on-board compressor, I will no longer need
to rely on my custom made 15 lbs CO2 power tank tire
inflater which comes with a 125lbs regulator, air
chuck, and a 2' heavy duty air hose. $80 obo (90% of
CO2 still in the tank, free).
3) Truck Air II tire inflator (12V up to 275psi) -
only used a couple of times. $30 (retail price at
$45)
4) Complete used stock Dana 30 & Dana 35c
differentials with 3.55's ring & pinion (from my '94
ZJ). If you're interested, make me an offer and they
will be yours.
What a bargain on these items which you don't want to

4-Wheel Drive is not required.

that same
afternoon just a couple of miles down the road from the cleanup so
hopefully
all the club delegates and board members can get moving a little
earlier and
spend some time at the clean up prior to the meeting.
For the afternoon cleanup I would direct this
request to those
recreationists that are not members of the ASA4WDC......... Virtual

associated
with the ASA4WDC.

The BLM 2001 budget proposes a $1.35 million increase over this year "to address wilderness land use plan amendments in Utah and Colorado."

on-board compressor to pump my 33x12.5x15 tires.
Sorry.
