Subject: Proposed Rocky Point

OK, I'm going down to Rocky Point to camp on the beach! No matter what
date gets picked, I know that not everyone will be happy - but TOO BAD!
I've only got a few weekends left in Arizona so, I'm proposing a beach
camp out for the weekend of February 19th - 20th.

Meet at the Fry's Super Electronics Store parking lot at Baseline &
I-10 at 3:00pm Friday February 18th.

Return to Arizona either Sunday or Monday (depending on who has
Washington's Birthday off).

As someone put it earlier, this is an inexpensive trip. Camping on the
beach is under $10 per night and then it's just survival money once you
take care of the gas and Mexican Insurance (this is mandatory).

I'm looking for 2 rims (5 on 4.5 bolt pattern). Width is not important (can
be 6" or 7"), nor is backspacing. They just need to be straight and
true....and cheap.

If you have any that are collecting dust...shoot me a note at
azjeep@h...

Thanks,

Doug

I've got 5 on 5.5's all day long. But doesn't meet your requirements. But if
for whatever reason you want them, let me know.

I have never run the Terminator trail, but I have been there and walked it. I think you are asking for big trouble taking the rig you described in to Terminator. It looks like a trail requiring big tires and maximum clearance. That's just my opinion, maybe someone that has run it can confirm this or not. I think it should have a solid 4 rating.

Thanks. After looking at it and Tomkin I decided on the Rusty because
it was 3/16" steel instead of 1/8". Glad I made the correct decision.

BTW: when you bend up your crossmember they will be releasing a
transmission crossmember out of 3/16" steel in the next couple of
months.

IMPORTANT UPDATE........... CORRECTION.............CORRECTION..............
CORRECTION........... CORRECTION

I goofed on DIRECTIONS. PLEASE NOTE the clean up is at Mile Post 201!!!!!!!
This is just BEFORE the Gold Canyon Texaco Station. If you get to the light
at the Texaco Station...... Meadowbrook Drive......... you've gone too
far.

Hwy 60 to Mile Post 201. South side of Hwy 60.

We still NEED a lot more volunteers. Camping will be allowed on site for
those that want to stay.

We NEED to help Tammy Pike of State Trust Land Dept. She has been a GREAT
ally for 4-wheelers so hopefully we can show our appreciation by giving a
few hours to help. If this clean up / education project fails she will be
forced to close this area so please find a few hours in your time to help.
Wouldn't it be great to see all 900 ASA4WDC members on site??!!!

TO ALL OF YOU THAT FORWARDED THIS ORIGINAL MESSAGE ON TO FRIENDS............
PLEASE DO SO AGAIN SO THE CORRECTION GETS TO EVERYONE.

THANKS, Sandee

Subject: NEED YOUR HELP

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO 4-WHEELERS ..................

The State Land Department and Game & Fish NEED YOUR HELP...............

There has been a big push to close a number of acres of State Trust Land in
and/or near our cities boundries due to the recent directive re "Dust
Abatement". There is a large section of State Trust Land in the Apache
Junction area (Gold Canyon actually) that is used mainly by our fellow ATV
and motorcycle off-highway enthusiasts but local residents want it closed
due to "dust".

The State Land Dept and Game & Fish have joined together in putting together
a "control & education" plan in an effort to keep this area available to
off-highway use. If they cannot get it cleaned, signed and education out it
most likely will be closed.

THEY NEED OUR HELP.......... They are planning a CLEAN-UP and EDUCATION
project on February 11 & 12, 2000.

They are asking anyone and everyone interested in Off Highway use to show up
and help clean the area (approx. 1200 acres) and distribute State Land
Permit information to the users. They have this planned on one of the worst
weekends possible for ASA4WDC but here's the plan....... The Land Agencies
will furnish the trash bags and a large dumpster........ they want us to
patrol the area for trash, pick it up, and take it back to the gate area for
removal. There are some large pieces needing to be "dragged" or "hauled"
back but most is just trash. 4-Wheel Drive is not required.

Friday, FEB. 11, 2000: 9:00 a.m. - ???? Anyone that can make it out for a
few hours. Anyone retired that can spend some time??

Saturday, FEB 12 2000: As many ASA4WDC members as possible to work from 9:00
a.m. - 12:00 p.m......... The ASA4WDC Delegate meeting is at 1:00 that same
afternoon just a couple of miles down the road from the cleanup so hopefully
all the club delegates and board members can get moving a little earlier and
spend some time at the clean up prior to the meeting.

For the afternoon cleanup I would direct this request to those
recreationists that are not members of the ASA4WDC......... Virtual Jeep
Club, independent 4-Wheelers, the organized clubs that are not associated
with the ASA4WDC. Your help would be greatly appreciated......... and
needed.

DIRECTIONS: Highway 60 east to Kings Ranch Road. (There's a stop light with
a Texaco station just before Kings Ranch Rd) Stay in the right lane.
There is a gate directly across from Kings Ranch Rd. turn. Go south through
the gate. We will be meeting at 9:00 a.m. both days.

PLEASE R.S.V.P. Sandee McCullen at 480 832-8132 or email:
mccullen@writeme.com or leave a message with Tammy Pike's voice mail at
State Trust Dept.: (602) 542-2269 or email: tpike@lnd.state.az.us

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO ANYONE ON YOUR EMAIL LIST........... OR FRIENDS AND

Don't know anything about this event, other than what's posted on the web

Excellent points, Stu. I have a copy, so if (for any reason) you don't get
one, let me know and I'll shoot you one.

I'll be sending Mr. Lopez a letter on my thoughts about the closing. The
biggest concern I have is that it's the only road left which accesses the
west side of the Verde for many miles. All the others have been closed off.

Any moderate runs planned? Around class 3 or 3+? I'm interested in either
a day or a night run. Probably would prefer a night run since I'm planning
on installing my Powertrax No-Slip Locker in the front of my TJ in the
morning but it could wait until the evening to do it.

Had a real blast on this run.. Ran into Charles from Sandiego.. Blue XJ that
ran Tr42 with us once..
There was something like 700 vehicles and 1500 people attending the event..
Poker run was a total blast and the trail run
we choose was really neat and twisty.. No real hard obsticles but we took
the harder lines on all the small obsticles..
Didn't want to risk breaking anything so far from home so we chose the
easiest run of them all..
We got to see the pumpkin patch, an area that has large bolders that look
like pumpkins. The mud pots were really cool, there was this grayish spring
that water would bubble out of every miniute or so... Then we got to see
Barrow spring.. Basically a pipe sticking out of the ground that spirts
water every three miniutes.. there was some 1920 type material around the
area and the pipe was made of tin. Really neat piece of history.. They had a
huge raffle and gave over 50k in prizes away to raffel winners. BFG and
CURRIE and BILLSTINE and WARN were some of the sponsers and man did they
donate the goodies.. They even gave away one of the new YJ conversion Coil
kits... Though I didn't win (I really tried) I had a blast..
One more thing, Glamis looks like killer fun... William M. Im there next
time you go!!!!!!!!!! We past it on the way to the event and
I just got this big smile on my face as we drove by :) Too bad noone from
the club made it.. It was A blast and I would like to return to this event
next year....

Here is a response from Mason Coggin of the Capitol Chapter People for the USA. He makes some great points about how rouge behavior from a minority cause all of us to lose.

Terry

I know some of the ranchers in this area and their thrust to close the roads is based on the poor manners of some of the public 4WDs who visit the area. They have changed gates, broken locks, shot up water tanks and generally made a mess of the desert. I believe that we can change this sorry attitude if we can reach these people and tell them we all loose when people disrespect the ranchers and other uses of the multiple use lands. Off highway manners needs to be taught in the public schools as a part of the civics and driver training classes that should be required for getting a driver's license in Arizona. I know you have incorporated this into your programs but I wish you could spend more time over in the education building educating the educators. This is a matter of policy not legislation. Can I help you in talking to some of the policy setters in the Department of Education either with you or for you? I hope you will pass this notice on to others in the 4WD community.

Sorry about this, but my Rocky Point camping on the beach weekend (feb.

I do hope to make it to a few trail runs in the next few weeks.
