Turtle, Is that you Jason? I was out at the Cracks today for about an hour. Cody and I were up on top where trail 1 ends and walked down to the notch and the walked west toward the actual Cracks. Just checking around out there. The camp site is super clean. Cody and I picked up one beer can and a couple of shotgun shells. You would never think that over 50 people camped there before. Appears the only people who have been out there lately are the wood cutters. What a great day it was and the temperature at 10 am was 31 degrees.

By the way, your on my short list for "unorganized runs";)

C U soon!:D

How do I get on that list? ;)

Since arriving here in Oct, I've yet to hit any trails north of PHX, so I'm looking forward to seeing this area. Hopefully, it won't take until June, but if it does, I'll try and keep that weekend free. Know any good desert camping guides/websites I can check out? I'm sure it's much different than camping in the PNW.

Actually... Justin - YZGUYONE25 = me - Turtle!

Glad to hear the place is still clean. That place is gorgeous and a wonderful place to camp. Maybe if I can sneak away for a weekend before then I will try to head up and check it out. Times are rough right now, just found out today that the girlfriend and I are approved for our first home! Gotta work lots! No matter what though I will be there in June! Look forward to wheelin' with ya again!

Sounds good Justin. I sure hope to go before June, maybe late April or eary to mid May. I'll let ya know.

Matt, consider yourself on "the short list". That is people who have been to the Cracks before or show an interest in going on short notice (1 week). The area is high desert above 5000 ft. Red sand and sage and shaggy bark cedars and red slick rock.

Devil Man

bill i want to be on the short bus.

02-26-2004, 04:01 PM
Now I need to acquire a trailer before then. I don't want to drive my CJ on the highway for 3 hrs, and it'd be tough getting home should I break something critical.

The cold weather camping, I can handle. We used to camp at 5000-7000 feet with a few feet of snow (which actually is a great insulator). And here I thought I'd never get a chance to wear my longjohns again.

Antman
02-27-2004, 05:55 PM
Eric, you ARE a short bus!:D Your also number one on the list!:p

Matt, In early June it should be about right up there. Maybe a little warm during the day and maybe a little cool at night. I think the altitude is around 5400'.

this is a family oriented run
Always be on the look out for small children & animals (dogs)
I am asking eveyone who brings pets please use a leash there are huge & I mean HUGE jack rabbits in the area there was an incident were a dog chased a rabbit & probally is still chasing this rabbit today
when we tour the Cracks itself I am asking that no one climbs down into them the ground is very unstable not to mention very deep I would hate to lose anyone or a pet :o
Please stay on the trails
No shooting there will be people all around the area
keep you stereo down
if you see trash please pick it up there was about 30 Jeeps last year & the day after there was absolutly no trash left behind you could not tell there was that many people there that weekend thanks again :)
I am asking to keep one community camp fire if it is windy we will not have any fire at all lets be RESPONSIBLE

Once again I had a real good time at the Cracks (other than the heat during the day) :o
had some early breakage first Night lost a steering box that lead to rear drive shaft exploding trying to manuver in 2wd lost a rear axle on a XJ had to be left on the trail until daylight once daylight arrived they ran sevral times more
Saturday morn had some more breakage lost 2 front axles before 10 AM
lost a front bumber on the ZJ the teeth drawn in dust were the bumper once was made the day it had this evil but happy grin
I want to thank everyone who helped in repairing all the broken Jeeps
both Bill Witt & Roy Rogers went beyond the call of duty to help out lending parts, time & driving into town for hardware I also want to thank the folks who went & got ice & beer for other Jeepers & all the trip leaders
A round of applause goes out for everyone for making sure all the trash was cleaned up all we left behind was our tire treads in the dirt :D

So, All of those people on a what rated run, with no spares???? NICE. Well at least it waas fun huh???? :D
