I bought one of the tire inflators they have and paid $20 for it. I use it
on a CO2 tank. The one I got is for truck tires up to 150lb pressure is not
very usefull for low tire pressure like we use. If the one on sale is the
150 lb one, I don't recomend it.
I appreciate this tip though. My Highlift has a bent main shaft and I was
considering getting a new parts to fix it. I can't by the replacement part
for that price. I'm going to chedk out a new one.

For those interested, Harbor Freight is having a sale now and they are
selling the 48" hi-lifts for $31.99. Awesome deal. They also have the tire
inflator adaptors (like the ones at the nice gas stations that let you
squeeze the handle and check the air pressure while keeping the chuck on the
valve for $5.97. They normally sell for around $20.00. Lots of other great
stuff too.

I did an overnight trip in mid-December (Dec. 16 & 17) which included Red
Creek (we camped in the creek). We broke 3/4" thick ice from the stagnant
pools of water on the 2nd morning. Obviously temps can fluctuate, but it
got fairly cool that night.

Hi Jon

We just got home about half an hour ago. Had to strap two people while we
were there. Everybody did fine until we tried to cross from the second cove
to the third. On the uphill run out of the second cove wash (the big nasty
one) my friend in his '91 Z71 Chevy got crossed up halfway up the hill and
ended up sideways. After backing down and making about a dozen attempts at
the hard side of the hill, he finally gave up and took the bypass to the
north.

The same guy had trouble on the way out.....trying to climb up onto the same
ridge from the other side. He took the wrong line (only his second time in
the dirt and thought the way I went up the hill looked too difficult),
caught a bad bounce off of a mogul and ended up sliding sideways again -
except this time he slid off the main trail and onto the other fork of the
trail leading up the hill. His right rear tire was up on a mogul and the
front was dug into the soft dirt of the other approach, right where the two
paths come together. He was positioned just right so that no matter what he
tried to do, the front end would slide farther down the hill. With the back
end already at an angle to the left from the mogul, any movement of the
front down the hill just intensified the roll-over possibility. Very high
pucker factor on this one....the right front tire was hovering about an inch
off the ground and the whole truck would rock back and forth when he shifted
his weight inside. Some other people had caught up to us, so three of them
stood on the passenger side nerf bar while the other member of our group got
a strap attached to the front of the Chevy. There were 3 trucks at the
bottom of the hill, but I was the only one on top so I backed halfway down
the hill and hooked up. I dragged the front of his truck around so that it
was pointed up the hill and away we went. No more comments about my old
ugly beater from the "shiny Chevy" crowd!

The sun had set behind the mountains by this time, so we had to come most of
the way out in the dark. Just as we started down the last hill leading back
to the trail to the green gate, we saw headlights flashing on the side of a
hill to the west. Three quick flashes, three long flashes, three quick
flashes....pause....repeat. Wonderful. We got to the bottom of the hill
and followed a side trail that looked like it led to the source of the
flashes. Sure enough, after about a quarter of a mile we found a new YJ
wedged against a tree at the bottom of a hill with all four tires dug in to
the axles in soft sand. Since my Jeep had already pulled out Mike's Chevy,
we let Brian (the other member of our party) use his Chevy to pull the Jeep
out.....gotta keep the karma balanced, you know. Once the YJ was unstuck,
we had an uneventful trip out and home.

I got some good videotape of the action (or lack there of) on the hills,
including one segment where my passenger carried the camera up the second
cove to third cove hill. That video portion of that segment is mostly
alternating shots of my dashboard and my roof, but the audio is pretty
neat.......including a shocked "My God, we made it" from the passenger.
This was her first time off road.

All in all we had a good trip. The only damage was to a few people's
pride....no dents, no injuries. Could have been a lot worse. As usual, the
kids had an absolute blast....especially when they got to see Daddy tow
Uncle Mike up the hill (from a safe distance, of course).

Subject: Agua Fria river bottom run

Headed out this morning to meet Brain (Silverr) as I dropped off the
side of the road at 10:00 he was waiting ready to play... We aired down
and headed for some of the hills and rock piles.. We then headed over
to the ol' Mud hole for some mud boggin, After the mud boggin we ran
into a fellow member in one BAD
Chopped and locked FS Cherokee. He told us about this huge pit that was
really fun.. So we all headed over to it. on the way over to the big
pit, there were two guys in a rail that were barried up to the rear
axles, (sorry can't rember your name) BAD FS Cherokee owner, stopped
off to give the two guys a tug. We were close behind him to assist if
need be. He deffinately needed no assistance yanking that little buggy
out of the 33inch sized holes that it's rear tires dug. On to the Big
pit.. Brian and I stopped at the top, to survey the area and the big
cherokee headed down to play. Brian decided to head down and check it
out. After climbing one hill and almost taking out a 3wheeler that was
foolishly playing chicken on a very big and steep hill Brian decided to
head back to where I was parked. After chatting and watching the ATV'S
and Dirt bikes play we decided to head back over to the Ol' mud hole
and do some more rock climbs. Our FSC friend head for home. I went to
start up my XJ and guess what? No go something decided to kick the
bucket... would turn over but wouldn't start. After about an hour of
trying to figure out the problem we decided to tow it back over to the
area near the road. We headed over to the nearest Circle K to call the
wife so she could get a Wreaker out to tow the XJ home. Oh and on the
way to Circle K Brian's Xj's clutch started acting up, slipping really
bad but after a quick view of the situation and some pumping of the
clutch a few thousand time we were back on the road. When we got to
circle
K we added a little brake fluid to the clutch on Brian's XJ. And this
seemed to clear up the problem.. After I knew the wreaker was heading
out we headed back to the River bottom. Ran into the FSC owner and also
I think a new member in a silver YJ with Relvolvers and lockers front
and rear..(steve, I think?).
about an hour later the flat bead showed up and hauled my XJ home.. I
had a blast even though my rig broke agian for the third week straight.
THANKS to Brian for the tow and the ride to Circle K..

Dave (AZXJ) broken agian!!

Ross,

They dont fit the front of CJ as well as they do the rear....alignment is a
little off but they will work. Im not sure about trimming up front... I know
the rear allows you to remove quite a bit of sheetmetal. There is a few
webpages out there that have some pics and info on the swap. I'll look for
them later tonight and shoot em off to you.

I was thinking of the weekend of Feb 26-27. Will that work for the
SideWinders?

The only trail I have been on in the area is the one out to the Pueblo Devol
ruins. I would like to do that one again just to get a closer look at the
ruins. It isn't a tough trail so AZ_VJC members with stock 4x4s wouldn't have
any trouble. Just a thought....

Does anyone know if the 5spd from a 97 4.0 wrangler is the same 5spd used in
the cherokee and what tranfer case came in the wrangler.

The 5 speed is an Aisian AX15 for the 4.0 motor (it's an AX5 for the 2.5L).
The T-case for both is a NV231 (New Venture). New 2k TJ's have an NV tranny.
