I have had COX cable for over a year now and never have had any problems i can't imagine surfing the internet without it anymore... searches take useually less than 5 seconds.. music downloads take about a minute and a half... you never have to wait and if you do it is usually not more that a few extra seconds.. CABLE MODEM best damn invention since the internet....

DEFINETLY GO WITH COX.. you will wonder what you did in the past without it

Cox has been great. Sometimes, it'll cut out for a half hour during a real heavy rain, but that's maybe 4 times a year.

Def go with Cox. Faster and cheaper.

Also, if you live in the east valley, check out Cable America, they have high speed too, and it is faster than Cox. Atleast when I was installing Cable America it was faster.

I've had Cox in Tucson for awhile now and could never go back to dial up. They still use dial up at work and I can't believe how slow it is now that I've got High Speed!

Hope this helps,

Been with Cox for almost 4 years and have had very little trouble. If you have a choice go with Cox....

Was hoping someone would bring up Cox telephone. Is it a good signal, service blah blah blah?

Thanks,

Thanks,

Since you brought it up...I actually have their telephone service, digital tv, and high speed internet. I did it mainly out of convenience when we moved a year ago. I decided that since I already had their internet service I would drop the dish (I had the BIG dish) and drop Qwest. I have not regretted my decision at all.

I use QWEST. Used to have Cox, but switched. Qwest has an outage once in a while, just like COX and the others. Otherwise, fast access. I think QWEST is better than Cox during prime time, i.e.,heavy load periods (just my judgement/experience).

It seems that cox is winning but since you asked, I use qwest high speed and have never had a problem. I think cox is faster but, 2 seconds to load a page or 3 seconds to load a page. How important is one second to you. Base your decision on something other than speed when comparing these two.(# of e-mail accounts, web space, etc.) Both are good for the net. My only advice is not to get cox for tv.

BTW, Cox gives you a $5.00 discount on your high speed with 2 of thier services, ie, cox digital phone and high speed internet. We have had thier phone service for 3 years, and not one single problem. Also, very cheap compared to Qwest. Long distance with Cox is $0.10 a minute any time. We don't make too many calls from the home phone, we get free long distance on the cell phones on weekends.

Cox for 1.5 years here and nothing but good things to say about their Internet service. It's very rarely out and I work on it all day and much of the night and have never noticed any kind of peak period slowdown. I think that's a thing of the past now that they've upgraded their neighborhood infrastructure.

I've used DSL and even business DSL and it isn't even comparable in speed to Cox cable Internet. DSL is noticeably slower. DSL is better than dialup, for sure, but cable Internet is faster, usually MUCH faster than even the best home DSL connection. That's not only my experience with Cox but also Charter Communications.

That good to know that they've done that. Now I have an option if I ever get dissatisfied with Qwest.:)

I've had Qwest DSL (actually VDSL) for a couple of years now and enjoy it.

It still amazes me how they get the regular phone, a 1 Mbit DSL connection, and 3 seperate TV feeds all over some copper phone wire.

The best part about DSL or a cable mdoem is that it is just nice to have. :D

Thanks for all the inputs... I think I'll try Qwest and if not satisfied COX will get my business.

Have Cox Cable internet and love it. 3.5 to 4.5 Mbps

I had MSN DSL which was through Qwest and did not particularly like it. Speed was OK for DSL at about 200 Kbps, but the MSN software really ties your hands. The email is not a POP3. It is http only.

John,

Thanks for you input. Now I have to show my lack of computer savy and here I thought I was doing good having taught myself what I know....:D I have MSN now, what is the difference between it and POP 3?

Does Cox give you space to store photos that you can "link" to? MSN doesn't offer that anymore, it's a "premium" service.

Thanks,
AJ Card

I am not the greatest at this either, but as I understand it POP3 is the standard way of doing an email account. As such, many after market anti-spam programs only work with this kind of account. With MSN what I found was that I was not able to use most if not all of these programs. Maybe someone else can chime in with other info.

Post Office Protocol 3. A protocol that provides a simple, standardized way for users to access mailboxes and download messages to their computers.
(no I stole this off the 'net, I don't talk like this. )

That is the protocol that Cox uses and I use Outlook Express. I haven't had any problems with Outlook but I'm sure someone will chime in with their experiences also!:D

Hope it helps!

My 1 Mbit Qwest DSL connection runs at 1 Mbit. I routinely download at 103KB/sec, which is a maxed out 1 MB connection. Qwest has POP3 mail and something that looks like a homepage area too.

also Cox does give a small website for each E-mail name you use (up to 7 I believe). Only about 10 meg each, but it's cool for some pictures etc!

I used to run qwest, but they dropped me because they said there was too many people on the node I was, but come-on, on this side of town and in this area, who else could be on the same node. So since then I have gone with cox, and even though I am not happy with them blocking my FTP, the speed is good and I only get dropped about once a month (my pc/network is always on and something is always running so I know when), but my GF has it also and she has never noticed anything wrong with her connection. Plus I prefer the 300-400K to the 90-100k down and the 30-40k to the 10-19k up speeds. But hey, what can you expect from a college student.

I used to have my whole website on Cox. I just created 4 email addresses. Now, since I get 100mb free through Apple, I moved it over there.

I've also been pretty happy with Cox.
