Sure! My boyfriend is leaving for Dallas before the Parker trip so I will be
passengerless!
You are welcome to ride along -- that is if you don't mind riding in a ZJ!

I'll be out on the President's Choice Trail and Snake Bite Canyon.

at 82,500 miles or there about, the "service required" light goes on telling
you that you need to have to have your emission system checked. just pull the
bulb out. the
"check engine " light is a whole different story. if you know how you can
pull the codes from the computer. then you have to be able to read them. my
experience is that the "check engine" light comes on every time I wash the
motor. This leads me under the Jeep to check that the O2 sensor has not come
unplugged normally it has. I just plug it back in and away I go.

I'm all for a possible camping trip. It's been way too long since I've been
able to hit the trails and my available time is quickly diminishing. What
type of timeframe are we looking at - as well as what type of evening lows?

Sure! I had a great time last year. The German cowboy DJ was great. The scenery
was awesome. I started in position 1 and ended in position 100 -- not exactly
last place, but pretty close!

The 4x4 rally is a timed rally. Last year the average speed was less than 5 mph.
I got lost once, ate lunch on side of the trail and explored some mine ruins,
took a lot of pictures, got stuck behind a dead Ram Charger being towed for a
couple of miles --- and had a great time!

It's easy to find. Wikieup is not a big town.
Registration fee: $30.00 until April 1, 2000 then $35.00 at the gate
T-Shirts: $15.00, XXL $20.00
Vehicle limit: 130
Food: Saturday night hamburgers $3.50 and hot dogs, $0.75 sodas.

You'll need a pressure regulator for sure, or you could blow the seals. I can't recall what the recommended pressure is...something like 90lbs, but you could call the ARB US Distributor (206-264-1669 - in Seattle), and I'm sure they'd help.

The plan is to do 2 days of wheeling (Sat - Sun). Most plan on being in Parker Fri night to get an early start on Sat. Trails will range from a class 3 to near class 5. Most trails will be on the hard side of the scale, from what I understand.

A number of us will be caravaning from Phoenix...meeting at 51st Av and I-10 at the Jack in the Box (north side of I-10), at 12noon on Friday. Should take about 3 to 3.5 hours to get to Parker, so we should have plenty of daylight left to set up camp.

Al (Blue Ox) and Dirt Dog are doing the organizing of the run, and they have some Parker wheelers lined up to show us the trails. Should be a blast.

Outdoor Enthusiasts,
Here are some excellent tips for communicating with your elected officials.

From: Rachel Thomas
COMMUNICATING WITH LAWMAKERS
HOW TO INFLUENCE YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS
Are you aware that you can effectively influence the outcome of legislation? It57;s true! Ask any elected official who is the most effective lobbyist they
have ever met, and chances are they all will deliver the same response: his
constituents (you). All politicians are keenly aware of the fact that it is their
constituents who hold the keys to their political futures. Therefore,
constituent concerns are of the utmost concern to politicians. The best way
you can affect the outcome of legislation is to directly communicate your
views to your lawmakers. REMEMBER: Your lawmakers work for you! Since the number one concern of all politicians is to get re-elected, be sure you communicate your concerns with your own elected officials first! Listed below, you57;ll find tips on effective communication strategies with your elected officials
WRITING EFFECTIVE LETTERS TO YOUR LEGISLATORS

To communicate with an elected official, one of the simplest thing you can do is use a results-oriented method -- LETTER WRITING. As a voting constituent, a letter is an easy way for you to let lawmakers know your views on specific issues, encourage them to vote your way, and let them know you'll watch how they vote on a particular issue and keep that vote in mind come Election Day!

Personally-written letters allow you an opportunity to present your position
to your lawmakers without interruption. With that in mind, you'll want to
keep the letter short and to the point, with just enough facts and figures to further enhance your statement. Never lie or make a statement you can't back up with evidence. Always let your lawmakers know how a specific issue will affect you personally, and make sure he understands that you live and vote in his district or state, and therefore, what affects you may affect other constituents as well.

If you own or operate a business, use your company letterhead. If you're a member of the PTA or other civic group, don't hesitate to mention that. Here are three quick tips you'll want to refer to when drafting your letter, followed by a sample letter for your review:

1. How To Address Your Representative: Address your letters to "The Honorable _______," and begin the letter "Dear Senator" or "Dear Representative." If writing to a Committee Chairman or Speaker of the House, address them as "Mr. Chairman" or "Mr. Speaker."

2. Be Brief, Specific, & Always Be Courteous! Ideally, letters shouldn57;t exceed one page, and the purpose of your letter should be stated clearly in the first paragraph. If your letter pertains to specific legislation, identify it accordingly. To make sure your letter is as productive as possible, always be courteous, even if you disagree with your representative's position! Never threaten or use abusive language. This only hurts your cause.

3. Ask Them To Write Back! Always ask for a response to your letter. You'll want a hard copy of your legislators' positions on these issues for future reference and to document their positions.

In addition to writing letters, you may also want to take advantage of newer technology and correspond with your lawmakers by fax or E-mail.
Faxing

Faxing has become increasingly popular as more and more Americans have gained access to fax machines. In fact, nearly all U.S. Senators and Representatives have published fax numbers. What's more, faxing allows you to send a full, letter-length message to your representatives in a matter of minutes for just the cost of a phone call. When preparing a fax message to a lawmaker, follow the same basic guidelines used when mailing a letter via regular mail. You also want to make sure your fax number is clearly visible, in case your legislator wishes to respond to you via fax. E-mail

E-mail (electronic mail) also allows you to communicate with your representatives quickly and easily. Again, follow the basic guidelines for a written letter when you send an E-mail message. As efforts to get the federal government on the "information superhighway" continue, you can be sure more and more Congressmen will be accessible via E-mail. For easy access to your lawmakers57;(both state and federal) E-mail addresses, I suggest you utilize WorldNetDaily Legislative Action Center http://congress.nw.dc.us/wnd/(http://congress.nw.dc.us/wnd/).
PLACING EFFECTIVE TELEPHONE CALLS

Often as a bills move through the legislative process, there simply isn't enough time to write your legislators prior to a key vote. When you need to get in touch with your legislator immediately to let him know of your position on gun-related issues, your telephone calls become the most effective means for you to communicate your views. Below are several tips for you to refer to when placing your calls:

1. Identify Yourself As A Constituent! As someone who lives and votes in the district or state, your phone calls carry the most weight. Calls to representatives outside your district or state are helpful as well, however, be sure to contact your legislators first. 2. Request to speak to the legislator and if they are not available, ask to speak to the staff person who handles the issue which you are calling about.

3. State Your Point Quickly and Clearly! Be sure to limit your telephone call to one subject. Be brief but specific. Your phone call should last only a few minutes. Let them know why you're calling, giving a bill number if possible. REMEMBER: ALWAYS BE COURTEOUS! NEVER threaten or use abusive language. This only discredits you, and harms your cause.

4. Be sure to give your name and home address and request that your legislator follow up with a letter. You took the time to call, have your legislator take the time to respond. Get his position in writing on issues important to you!

PERSONAL MEETINGS

By far, the most effective way to articulate your views to your elected official and to affect the outcome of legislation is to sit down and speak with your lawmakers face-to-face. While these personal visits are extremely productive, they also require the most amount of planning to ensure success. When planning a personal visit, refer to the following guidelines:

1. Schedule an Appointment. Elected officials have extremely hectic
schedules. To ensure that you will have time allotted for you to speak
directly with your legislator, call in advance to set up an appointment. 2.
Explain How Proposed Legislation Will Directly Affect You. Use specific
examples to show your lawmaker how firearms-related bills will jeopardize
your rights, the lives of law-abiding citizens, and unduly burden those
engaged in lawful shooting sports. If the proposed measure will strengthen
your rights or benefit gun owners, specifically cite examples to support this
position.

3. Always Be Polite. Nothing is as detrimental to a visit with a lawmaker
than rudeness, vulgarity, or threats. Even if you disagree with the position
of your legislator, be courteous. Dress professionally to convey the
seriousness of your visit. 4. Follow Up Your Visit With a Letter. Regardless of how your meeting goes, send a letter to your legislator thanking him for his time, and reiterating the points you discussed. This gesture will go a
long way, and possibly allow for future meetings.

5. If Your Lawmaker Is Unavailable, Meet With His Staff. Your representative may not always be available for a meeting. In such cases, try to schedule an appointment with the staffer responsible for firearms-related issues, or a staff member who will bring your concerns to your legislator's attention. Send a follow-up letter to the staffer you met with as well. Keep in mind many congressional staffers later run for office themselves!

ATTEND TOWN MEETINGS

Lawmakers often host town meetings in their districts to tout their achievements and solicit feedback from their constituents. Such meetings are a prime opportunity for you to ask your lawmakers to state their position on issues of concern to you. 1. Get On The 60;Invite List61; And Attend the Meetings. Write your lawmakers and ask to be put on the invitation list for the lawmaker's town meetings. If they do not have such a list, ask for information on the next meeting. When you receive word that a town meeting is scheduled, be sure to make plans to attend, and share this information with others. 2. Prepare Questions Ahead Of Time. Have specific questions in mind, e.g., ask for your legislator's position on a specific bill or issue. Because of the crowd and time limit placed on meeting plan on being able to ask only one or maybe two questions, so pick you most important issues to ask about.
3. Get An Answer. Ask your question clearly, and as simply as possible. If your legislator hems and haws and doesn't answer your question, calmly repeat the question
4. Follow-Up With a Letter. Whether you had the opportunity to ask your question or not, follow up with a letter to your representative. Let him know you attended his last town meeting. Ask your question in your letter if you didn't have an opportunity to do so at the meeting. This letter will ensure your lawmakers take you and your views seriously, and will allow for you to obtain a written response addressing your concerns!

don't care who gets the credit."

Our 2000 Arizona legislation is under way. I received the first list of bills today, 13 pages. If you would like to receive the printed list of bills entered into the system each week, contact the Legislative Bill Room and ask that you be added to the mailing list. 1-800-352-8404 or -1-602-542-4379.
HJR 2001 is already on the move through the system.
If all three of your legislators are not on the list of sponsors for this resolution (see status information following description) please contact the ones who are not listed and ask for their full support.
HJR 2001
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

DENOUNCING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW NATIONAL MONUMENTS IN THE STATE OF ARIZONA WITHOUT FULL PUBLIC PARTICIPATION, CONSENT AND APPROVAL OF LOCAL GOVERNMENTS, THE ARIZONA LEGISLATURE, THE GOVERNOR AND CONGRESS.

(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE)

Whereas, the establishment of two national monuments in Arizona by the President of the United States represents a misuse of the Antiquities Act of 1906 to set aside enormous parcels of real property. The Antiquities Act (16 United States Code sections 431, 432 and 433) grants authority to the President of the United States to establish national monuments, but the Act was intended to preserve only historical landmarks, historic and prehistoric structures and other objects of historic or scientific significance; and
Whereas, the proposed designation of two national monuments in Arizona clearly violates the spirit and letter of the Antiquities Act, which requires monument lands to "be confined to the smallest area" necessary to preserve and protect historical areas or objects; and
Whereas, the people of Arizona, the Arizona Legislature, the Governor of Arizona and the Congress of the United States have not consented or approved this designation, yet the creation of two new national monuments in Arizona could potentially have a significant economic impact on this state. Instead of working as a partner to help local communities and states define and achieve their conservation goals, the federal government dictates unilateral actions that would affect this state and exclude citizens and local governments from determining land management decisions in their communities; and
Whereas, land management and conservation efforts are best administered and managed at the local levels of government. The failure of the federal government to recognize and respect this basic tenet represents an arrogant usurpation of federal powers and a violation of states' rights.
Therefore
Be it resolved by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
1. That the Legislature denounces the designation of two national monuments in the State of Arizona without full public participation, consent and approval of local governments, the Arizona Legislature, the Governor and the Congress of the United States.
2. That the Congress of the United States take action to prevent the designation of any national monuments in this state without full public participation, consent and approval of local governments, the Arizona Legislature and the Congress of the United States.

Well, we finally got around to replacing the transfer case linkage bushings.
It took us about an hour to do three of them! Maybe the XJ has easier access.
Anyway, the shifter is a lot tighter and has a much better feel to it now.
Thanks for the advice!

I did this, and my Representative Roberta Voss basically told me that
these resolutions are basically pointless and worthless, and that her
(and our) efforts would be better served in other directions. I would
tend to agree.

Bulldog Canyon would be a cool spot and is close by. I have a pass and we can camp in there as long as we are adjacent to the road. (FR 10 and FR3554) The rangers patrol that area so we can't stray from the designated roads, but there are plenty of pullouts available to set up camp. I was there Sunday and the area where FR10 and FR3554 meet is a wide open space that I think would be considered a "pullout". and probably ok for camping. I am not sure about my availability this weekend, but anyone can get a 6 months pass by going in person to the Mesa District Ranger office. Bulldog Canyon is quite pretty, but the roads are 2.0 to light 2.5 (how's that for splitting hairs?)

and doing some of the same trails only in smaller groups. Call me if you

Yeah, I agree, it looks like a great summer run. I
was actually trying to see if we could keep it
semi-local seeing as a lot of people don't like to
have a long ride home on Sunday. Scott K was thinking
that Senator Highway would be nice, although that
might actually be a little far away too. Table Mesa
rd might be nice. If we took it from I-17 to Seven
Springs campground then camped, we could pull out on
Sunday morning with plenty of day left to explore the
area or for some, plenty of day to get things done at
home. Tell me what you all think? I'm up for any
suggestions.

One more thing, I was thinking that the first weekend
of February would be good for everyone, the 5th and
6th. I know for one, that I get paid bi-monthly on the
15th and 31st and there are others out there that have
told me the same. So, in the interest of having cash
in hand before the run, I think that sounds like a
good plan. Does this sound good to everyone concerned?
Let me know.
