if you think thats bad about AMC4x4 Salvage, check this out. i have a
78 CJ and the rear end was pretty much gone in it. it had water
contamination which caused the spider gears to chew themselves up and
just started a domino effect. anyways i bought a rear end from AMC
Salvage. they told me it was completely rebuilt. so i went ahead and
installed it. when i was done i let it down off the jackstands, started
it up, and took off. all i heard was a loud grinding noise. so i took
it to a differential place and had them look at it. they told me that
AMC Salvage had sold me the rearend with both hubs spun off the axles.
i went back to AMC Salvage and told them i wanted it fixed or replaced
or my money back. they told me they wouldnt do it. they said the hubs
were fine when it was sold to me, but i know the sound i heard when i
first drove it.
i ended up buying 1-piece axles for it(which i probably would
have done anyways) but the point is those guys sold me a rear end that
wasnt what they said it was. and they were not willing to work with me.

Joey,
To bad We don't know their e-mail address so they would know all about the bad press they are getting form this group.
I have bought a few things from them and have been treated fairly and also gotten some good information while there.

I have seen so many names of trails pop up this past week that I have no idea about. Soooo.... (call me a sucker for diving into this) I would like to start a list of trails in Az that includes the name of the trail, the location of the start point and last known rating. I'm not quite sure what format to put this in but I'll fiqure it out. If everyone could start sending me the names and locations I'll start putting them together.

bringing my cb since that is all I have right now.
Channel 4 if anyone is wondering. It looks like there

this wrong, please correct me. So far, I have:

Scott K (leading)
Aaron (me)
John Loveless
Andy Mason
Pete
Tom
Eric Kool
Rick (maybe)

Where is Joe West? I thought he'd like to try the
rock trail again and see if he can get that one
waterfall right this time :). Well, if there are any
that I forgot, please let me know. See you all
Saturday morning.

The big disadvantage of the Warn full float kit for the D44 is the weakness
of the hubs. The only way around this is to switch to the 5 on 5.5 lug
pattern so you can use the stronger hubs. Many on the web have repeatedly
blown the hubs on the 5 on 4.5 kits. Ask Joe West... :)

Rumors that hunting, access, and grazing being prohibited in Arizona's two new National Monuments are--for the time being--not true. See the post below:

--------------------------------------
Date: 1/13/0 11:39 AM

As a follow up to the memo you received regarding impacts to hunters on
the two National Monument designations announced by President Clinton on
the Agua Fria and Grand Canyon Parashant, we have received further
information from the Bureau of Land Management which states:
"Grazing, hunting, and other similar uses are generally not be affected
except where (1) the BLM or NPS, through processes required by existing
law, identifies places where such uses ought to be restricted or
prohibited as necessary to protect the federal lands and resources,
including the objects protected by the monument designation; or (2)
where the BLM or NPS finds a clear threat from such a use to the federal
lands and resources."

The document further states:
"Use of existing rights-of-way will generally be subject to the same
standards as described in the preceding paragraph."

Therefore, it is our understanding at this point that both HUNTING and
VEHICULAR ACCESS to lands within the Monument boundaries remain as they
are now , or until further notice to the contrary is received.
If the public desires more information beyond this, they should be

As soon as I get my 4:56 gears and ARBs next Christmas (wife are you

PLASTIC! crap) with the heavy duty Warn 5 on 5.5" hubs.

So... I'm guessing that the mods will go something like:

Change gears front and rear and new ARBs.
New tires (35") and rims (5 on 5.5", 4" BS).
New heavy duty hubs on rear.
Add hubs on front.

Gosh it sounds like this is going to be an expensive Christmas for my wife

82,500 miles. At that point the factory service manual states that the entire
emissions system should be checked. I took my ZJ to the dealer and paid the
$70 to have the light turned off --- they just reset the computer, but you
still get to pay for an hour's worth of work at the shop rate. After I forked
over the money, the mechanic at the dealership suggested (1) putting a peice
of electric tape over the light or (2) removing the bulb.

I think the owner's manual (at least for the ZJ) states that not checking the
emissions system can get you in trouble with the law. Yeah right! The worse
that couold happen is that you won't pass emissions on the first trip.

the hwy to explore this area. Most of the times I have been there I never
saw another vehicle and if I did it was only one. The area is essentially
unknown and unvisited by Arizonans. Now the government is going to pave
roads into it, set up a ranger station Im sure and develop facilities!
Ironic if you ask me.

Not only can I no longer travel on unpaved roads but they have also managed
to take away the solitude that could be found there. Phooey!
