Anyone else in Mesa go out and view the Martin Luther King day parade down main street?

I spent about 30 minutes watching my son and daughter (they are in Mesa High ROTC) march in the parade. It was a beautiful day out... nice small crowd... the kind of day and parade that makes me really like Mesa.

One side note; I got to hear Evan Mecham (those of you who have been in Arizona for a while have probably heard of Evan and his famous Pickaninny statement) on the radio today talking about his feelings concerning Martin Luther King Jr. It was funny hearing him speak... and made me kind of sad that we actually elected him in the first place. Yikes... the guy is loose cannon!

Anyway... cool parade and beautiful day.

Joe, I ran into him, Mecham, at the state fair a couple years ago.. He had a little booth and was trying to sell copies of his book... I had time so I started a conversation with him and it was really kind of sad. He appeared to look like a little old man, beaten from hard years, yet still trying to prove his innosence and nobody cares anymore... He sure made a few splashes during his tenure though !!

That's sad... didn't he have some dealerships Mecham Pontiac? I figured he had a fairly substantial financial plan; I am somewhat surprised to hear that he would be selling his own book.

Hmmmm.... wonder if he takes calls... I'd buy a book from him just for the memory and be even happier if he'd sign it :D

Yes, he had Mecham Pontiac but was forced to sell out to finance his campaign... I think... My Dad was in the Pontiac Dealers group with him years ago... I do remember reading that all the procedes from the Pontiac Dealer are long gone...
