I am a tired cat.2 roadie and recreational mountain biker, just curious if any other wheelers split there time between two and four wheels.

Yup... but I sure as hell aint no cat 2 fast guy. :D I started riding a little over a year ago to lose some weight. I usually ride 30-50 miles a week mostly on the road. I try to get out every so often on the mtb bike to keep the cobwebs off it. I did a couple of sprint triathlons this fall so have been splitting my riding time with running. I would really like to do a century ride this year and an olympic distance triathlon also. I have toyed with entering a bike race but I think I am probably still to fat and slow. :)

You are right up the road from me so I have probably seen you riding and not known it. I started in multi sport but now I will only run if there is a hundred dollar bill blowing down the street. As for entering a bike race, do it. Enter the citizen category and have fun. If you finish with all your skin you'll probably want to keep doing it. Oh, by the way, I am not a fast cat.2 I am a TIRED cat.2.

Where do you usually ride?

I love hitting the downhill single track out at Pima & Dynamite. Although with my excessive weight (230 #) my Giant AC does complain and bounce on the way up. I have recently been riding a loop from my house, out through Thunderbird Park down 67th to the CAP. From there west until the CAP goes underground then back up the north side of the cap to 51st ave and then across and home.

For the road bike I have been sticking to lesser traveled routes lately. Mostly the canal/wash and other paths. I was run off the road by a cement truck up by the dump on Happy Valley and I haven't been the same since. I think he clipped me with the front tire and then hit the horn. I just remember flipping in the dirt on the shoulder  the loud blaring and his reflection in the mirror as he drove away. I'd love to meet him again someday.

ROOKIE. I have been hit six times on the road. When I don't have a lot of time I do road loops here in the neighborhood. beardsley, 51st, 59th, pinnacle, 35th, back to beardsley. I do most of the mountain biking in the Pinnacle Peak area. There is a good 100+ miles of single track out there. If you ever want any company just give me a holler.

I ride most of that same loop through the Thunderbird area. I have a Trel R200 recumbent and a Trek 6500 hard tail. I ride mostly at nite to avoid crowds and heat. (seems I saw some signs about closed at sunset but I never did figure out what they meant) I ride the CAP too! I have ridden the 100 trail through the Phoenix Mtn preserve. Some real nice trail and only modestly taxing. My wife works over in Scottsdale at Indian School and Scottsdale. The 100 trail ends at Tatum so I add anoter 5 or 6 miles to her office and she hauls me home. I also ride a loop around sweetwater through T-Bird park and out at Bell and back to 51st and down to cactus...I live at 43rd and Cactus. I too took it up to loose weight and really enjoy riding. I joined one race in the Clydesdale class and took First in my age group...I was the only one in my age group, but I still took first. pm me back and we can get together on some rides

I think a group ride would be a great idea. I get tired riding alone most of the time. Plus having a race veteran in out midst, there might be some tips, tricks or special skills to be gleened.

My typical ride days are tues, thurs, sat or sun, generally mornings. although work may dictate different days soon. On or off road, I don't care.

But just remember, I am still fat and damn slow! :D

Fat and slow is about my speed. I would join in some Saturday or Sunday ride. I hit the salt mines early so I am back home by 5pm and could do an evening ride some place close by. The trail out in the White Tanks really rocks. Some nice twisty single track and some good aerobic runs too. It is a loop so there is ann opportunity for some beverage replenishment after each lap.

Lets Ride!
