"Observations of a relative novice"
I have been running Arizona trails only a few months but I have come to the conclusion that the amount of fun you have on a trail is directly proportional to the quality of the people you run it with and your leader.
Shawn Davis, his wife, Jess, me and my wife, Kathy went to Arroyo Roble in Sedona for a couple nights. Since we posted the trip late asking for a leader, we didn't expect much. We sure never expected anyone like Dr Rock and Mookie to show up on short notice. We also picked up a new member to the area, Mike, recently from California. The two guys that signed up as tenative and did not show sure missed a great trip. The weather was perfect, everyone got along great, you couldn't ask for better guys to wheel with and Dr Rock knew every rock out there and took us to play on most of them. He kept saying something about being home in time to watch the football game but we spent over 4 hours on the trail playing and taking pictures. Even the Pink Jeep drivers were nice to us. Mookie even took some movies, he seemed to have a little of everything in the back of the Cherokee including climbing gear if anyone went off the edge although when we got to the trail head and the Sedona police showed up I thought sure they were looking for Mookie (see pic of Mookie hiding behind his right front wheel while cop was there).
Turns out the cop is a AZVJC member. He had to work, otherwise would have been with us, and just stopped to say hello. He and his wife were nice enough to lead Kathy and I on Greasy Spoon the next day even though his jeep is down and he had to use his pickup.
All in all great people and I look forward to another trip with any of them.
