Bulldog Canyon IMHO offers a little bit of everything from sand to rocks and off-camber in a short run close to home, for those of us in the East Valley...I've not seen it dirty, ever !! I think that there is a club that has adopted it... The trail is definitely one of my favorites.

OK, where is it ?
I originate in the east valley and am always looking for new trails.

Bulldog Canyon begins in Apache Junction and ends just south of Saguaro Lake.A "free" permit is required
and can be had at the Mesa Ranger District-5140 E. Ingram St.-Mesa Az.85205.480-610-3300
It's a 6 month permit with a new gate code for each month.
Would you ,or anyone,be interested in running it this weekend?I could post a run.

I'd be interested. What's it rated? Does the permit cover the group (ie, can we run it on your permit) or do we each need one?

Each vehicle needs one.
Then I guess I'm out for this weekend, unless the run is Sunday and the Ranger station is open Saturday.

Then again...
I just called and was told each "person" needs a permit (not each vehicle) and that whomever picks up a permit may add names of others on their permit, but that they are responsible for those people listed on their permit.
Permits must be picked up in person and they're only open weekdays which makes it very difficult for me to get a there. Anyone want to add me to your permit and be responsible for me? :D
No worries if you don't. I'll make a point of getting one the next time I have time off during the week and do the trip another time.

I grovelled a bit and conviced those with the power to let me go get a permit, so I'm legal if/when this happens. I can add others names to my permit, if necessary, but anyone who misbehaves and gets me in trouble has to sign their rig's title over to me :D

I'm meeting a group out there at Bulldog Cliffs this Saturday AM to teach a NRA Shotgun course at Rio Salado... So I can't run it until Sunday even though I have to go halfway and back Sat AM...I'm open for sunday.... And yes, as long as you put all the vehicles and plate #'s on your permit, you're generally OK, of course we are always at the subjective judgement of the Tonto Ranger!!

Sunday works for me. Since I'm new to AZ and barely know where Apache Junction is, how about posting the trip with detailed directions to the meeting spot? Maybe we'll get more than just the two of us.

Ill post itup tonite unless: you want to do it now... How about meet at the trailhead at 8:00 am at Ellsworth north of the hill crest on the righthand side... We can go in there and come out in Apache Junction... about 2-3 hours depending on.... I would like to be done by lunchtime or earlya.m.
What ever everyone wants to do !! I'm easy !

Sounds good. I'll post it up - I've yet to post a run and could use the practice. I also reviewed the maps that came with the permit and it seems easy enough to find either the north or south entrances.
What's the trail rated (I'm assuming it's rather tame like 2-3)?
Only reason I ask is because I fried my winch recently and hate depending on others for winching. I'm still locked f/r and tall w/33's so if a winch isn't required, I'll be fine (provided I don't tip over on the off-camber stuff!)

Its real easy.... I've seen it posted as a 4+, NO WAY !! I'm pretty stock, 2" lift w/ 31's and I do fine.... I may bring my new XJ, a 92 but new to me, just to see how it does, I haven't had it off the pavement yet except to make sure Hi & Lo both work.... Its a good little trail but remember, under penalty, we can't play around off the beatten path... and thereare some neat areas out there !! See ya Sunday at 7:45 a.m. or so...

Just saw the post on the website, We want to enter on Ells worth (Usery Pass, same thing) NOT BUSH HIGHWAY as the post says... Can you change up the trip post?? I don't think I can change it... Or if any of you fine ( and highly under compensated) might I add, moderators want to cahnge it, I bet you can do it, I don't want confusion up until the last minute... Thanks,
I replyed to your e-mail between Matt and Mike and now I know why Mike said what he did... That is probably the default direction in the trails area of the Website ... Bring a small snack and drinks, and something for yourself as well !!!

I think the confusion, apart from my being new here, is that on the topozone.com map, it shows the road through Usery Pass as Bush highway, which it apparently is not. On the FS permit map it shows it as Usery Pass Rd.
The post should be OK now. Looks like enough people for a fun run and I'll be the only one not in a Cherokee :)
