I have a brand new Clutch Master Cylinder that I bought for my 92 YJ that I
ended up no using. I paid $100 for it, 1st $50 takes it. Replace your old
leaky one or keep this as a cheap NEW spare.

Depends on what kind of CB you have.

I have a full size Cobra 29LTD Classic which I mount on top of the dash above the air vents. I remove the radio when not out on the trail (two large screws hold the radio to the mounting bracket).

I permanently mounted the bracket to the dash by drilling two holes and using two bolts. I temporally removed the air vents to in order to secure bolts with self locking nuts and then replaced them after the installation was complete.

If an empty mounting bracket sticking up from the dash when the radio is removed bothers you, then I would not recommend this.

If you're interested, let me know and I'll send you a couple of pictures so you can see for yourself.

Happy trails,
AJ Card

A note on Uniden Pro 538w CB radio. Not only does it fit in the slot
where my 1994 YJ Jeep AM/FM/Stereo used to go, but it also fits the Jeep
AM/FM/Stereo BRACKET. I don't know if this is the result of
standardization of car radio/CB accessory dimensions, or just wild
coincidence.

Unfortunately, I don't know if Uniden is still making the Pro 538w.

Also, I removed all the cushion and plastic garbage from my console. I
found an ammo box at Larada's that fits EXACTLY the hole where the old
glove box/hand hold used to be. Wild coincidence. And it doesn't stick
out that far. I am going to have the world's largest glove box. All I
have to do is get some angle iron, bolt/spot weld it in, and add a lock.

Subject: Drive shaft to long??

Looking for some ZJ advice,
I just returned from having my tranny rebuilt and the mechanic said
that my drive shaft was to long. My 95 grand has a 3" teraflex lift
and 32" tires. According to him when my rear axle goes down, the
space between the rear axle and the transmission get shorter, he
said they had to almost force the drive line back in when replacing
the transmission. I have read in here about 'SYE' but I'm not
completely sure what that is, or if I need one. I was going to add
1 3/4" coil spacers front and back this weekend for a little more
height, but now I'm concerned that I might be causing problems doing
this with the driveshaft not the right length.

Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks Steve

The transmission shop put the rear drive shaft back in with the rear
axle unsupported. It doesn't matter how much lift you have on the ZJ
(and most likely the TJs too), it will do the same thing if the rear
sway bar has been removed and you are using short control arms. If
they had to force it, I would carefully examine the rear drive shaft.

I did an SYE on my ZJ, but a modified SY drive shaft would have been
sufficient. With a 3" lift you don't need anything -- unless you are
planning on jumping the Jeep. If I were to do it again, I would have
gone to a long arm set up on the rear. The long arm effectively keeps
the axle in a larger swing and doesn't cause a lot of
extension/compression in the drive shaft.

The AZVJC is focused primarily on TJ modifications. TJs and ZJs are
apples and oranges in suspension design and behavior characteristics.
I would post this question to a newsgroup that is ZJ focused.

One more thing. ZJs really don't like polyurethane in the suspension,
particularly the control arm bushings. I know there isn't a lot of
choices out there, but look for somthing with greaseable Johnny
joints or heim-joints on the axle ends. Poly doesn't have
enough "give" and will eventually break off the subframe control arm
brackets.

Most GPS mapping application will import and export GPS data files in
some format or another. Many support some type of text file in a comma
delimited format or something similar to that. Finding common ground,
so to speak, is the trick to sharing GPS info with other users. :)

OziExplorer and import and export in both PCX5 format and also WP+
(Waypoint +) format. Other mapping application may be able to read
OziExplorer's track files (which are also formatted text files).

I have been using a Dell Laptop and an IPAQ for about 2 years now with
Delorme 3dTopo and Delorme Streets deluxe software. I absolutely love
it. I have
the laptop mounted in two of my Jeeps using a Jotto Desk which was
recommended by the Delorme rep at the Comdex show in Vegas last year.
Everytime
Delorme updates software, I buy the new version. I have had no
problems with the
laptop even with all the jarring it has taken on 3.5 trails though the
IPAQ
being smaller is easier to manage in say a CJ or Wrangler. I can say
that
unless I have an extremely bright day I have not had too many complaints
about
being able to read the displays of either but alot of that depends on
where the
sun is shining in relation to your screen. I can also say that I DO
NOT like
the Delorme GPS units, I have had 4 of them and they have been nothing
but
trouble. I bought a 2nd laptop as a back up on Ebay that was another
Dell
Latitude CPI P-333 last year for $200 but I have not had to use it yet.
Best of
all on both the IPAQ and the Dell, the screens are COLOR. If I had to
make a
choice between the two, I would pick the laptop because the display is
bigger,
it is easier to use and I can dump my memory cards for my digital camera
on
the laptops hard drive anytime during my trip. I also have a cell
phone
interface for the laptop so, now dont laugh, I can surf the web and
check email on
the road or on the trail. Ok there is my two cents. I think Stu has
a good
idea with the Garmin and Ozi software as the Garmin GPS coordinates that
many
of the group has wont work with my Delorme stuff, at least I havent
figured
out how to make them work.

Hope some more opinions and info helps you out .

As Jerry said, I use the computer part of my system only when needed.
For the trails I usually run, I load the GPS with the necessary track
and waypoint data that is stored on the Toughbook. After that, it
normally is turned off and not used again until I am wheelin' a
different trail in another area.

For new trails that I've not run before (someone else is leading), I
simply turn on the tracking in the GPS and download the track later to
the Toughbook (I will normally transfer the track to the desktop PC in
the house and "clean it up", then put it back on the Toughbook).

If you run a trail with me and you want the data for your GPS, just be
sure to bring your GPS's PC cable. If you have a Garmin GPS with the
round 4 pin plug, then don't worry as I have one mounted in my TJ. :)

I'd like to second some of Stu's observations. Forget DeLorme for one.
Been there several times, done that, never again.

I've used several laptops over the years. Difficult but not impossible
to see
in daylight. Have had at least one laptop simply fall apart after about
3 years
of this use (it wasn't a toughbook).

I've also got a Viewsonic one piece tablet pc. The form factor is great
(one solid
piece). However, screen brightness on a tablet PC is a bigger issue
because the
pen screen has inherently lower brightness. I usually have to shield the
display to
see it.

We also have a Garmin iQue PDA which is better than the tablet and seems
more
visible than the laptops. I use Garmin MapSource as well as an
application called
Pathaway that uses real topo maps (imported from National Geographic
TOPO! which
is what I use in the laptop and tablet PC).

As far as software I've never used OziExplorer but have used Fugawi,
TOPO! and Maptech.
If you buy TOPO! buy the Arizona/Utah set if you want true 7.5 minute
topos (not the nationwide
set, the nationwide set you give you a 200% zoom on 15 minute maps to
fake 7.5 minute maps).
The advantage of TOPO! and Maptech is you get all the maps whereas with
Fugawi or
OziExplorer you have to import them. My tablet PC contains the all the
Arizona/Utah topos
on its hard disk. Also, if your PC does not have a serial port to
connect to the GPS but does
have USB, I can tell you detailed stories about what you can and cannot
do and the problems
you'll have with various USB to serial adapters. In a nutshell, if your
still shopping computers and
laptops make every effort to get a true serial port.

Lastly, if you have a Garmin with a large display like Stu's, or my
StreetPilot Color, Garmin
MapSource is an excellent source of "coarse" topo maps. Most of the time
I'll use the GPS
only unless I'm somewhere where I have to see the actual USGS topo. That
saves a lot of
wear and tear on the computer. To this point in time the GPS itself is
the only thing I truly
consider "sunlight readable"

Just an FYI for folks posting links. If you include the "http://"
protocol tag it'll display as an active link allowing folks to click
it rather than having to cut/paste it into a browser.

ie,

http://www.azvjc.org/pics/20_03121915378.jpg
http://www.azvjc.org/pics/20_03121915310.jpg

versus

> azvjc.org/pics/20_03121915378.jpg
> azvjc.org/pics/20_03121915310.jpg

Some mail programs may display these as active links, but Yahoo's
group site doesn't unless it preceded with the protocol tag.

The first link works (for me anyway). The second link doesn't but
neither does the original when pasted into the browser.

Anyway, my post wasn't directed to your links specifically, but
posted links in general.
