I am just incredulous that this judge can so blatantly ignore the facts!

You can mount your CB in my center console. :)
Actually that is probably the best place for it. Especially if you have a
Tuffy console. Better then the back seat or on the hood that's for sure.
Another good place would be in the center between the spreaders if you have
a sports cage or roll cage. If you think you are going to hit your head or
ear on it there then you might what to consider removing the spreader bars
as well as not putting the radio there too.

Subject: Re: OT: Ozieplorer, moving map and laptops
I have been using a Dell Laptop and an IPAQ for about 2 years now with
Delorme 3dTopo and Delorme Streets deluxe software. I absolutely love it. I have
the laptop mounted in two of my Jeeps using a Jotto Desk which was
recommended by the Delorme rep at the Comdex show in Vegas last year. Everytime
Delorme updates software, I buy the new version. I have had no problems with the
laptop even with all the jarring it has taken on 3.5 trails though the IPAQ
being smaller is easier to manage in say a CJ or Wrangler. I can say that
unless I have an extremely bright day I have not had too many complaints about
being able to read the displays of either but alot of that depends on where the
sun is shining in relation to your screen. I can also say that I DO NOT like
the Delorme GPS units, I have had 4 of them and they have been nothing but
trouble. I bought a 2nd laptop as a back up on Ebay that was another Dell
Latitude CPI P-333 last year for $200 but I have not had to use it yet. Best of
all on both the IPAQ and the Dell, the screens are COLOR. If I had to make a
choice between the two, I would pick the laptop because the display is bigger,
it is easier to use and I can dump my memory cards for my digital camera on
the laptops hard drive anytime during my trip. I also have a cell phone
interface for the laptop so, now dont laugh, I can surf the web and check email on
the road or on the trail. Ok there is my two cents. I think Stu has a good
idea with the Garmin and Ozi software as the Garmin GPS coordinates that many
of the group has wont work with my Delorme stuff, at least I havent figured
out how to make them work.
Hope some more opinions and info helps you out .

Criminals don't give a rat's *** about your service or anything for that
matter. They have an entirely different way of thinking about things than
we do. They're wired all wrong. They never cease to amaze, shock, and
baffle those of us who are normal with their stupefying behavior.
It's a lesson that is hard learned, NEVER leave anything of value (or

Subject: Re: [Tech] 1991 xj - question on swaping a transfer case
First the Jeep version of the 231 and the 242 are the weakest versions
of these families. Getting the same case number out of V8 Dakota will
get the HD version. In case it isn't obvious the 242HDAMG comes from a
hummer.
Second, all my strength numbers come from the NewVenture web page
<http://www.newventuregear.com/tcases.html>. If someone has another
source for numbers I'll be happy to look at them but I trust what
manufactures publish on their pages most.
Now as I said before the 231 and the 231HD are stronger than a 242.
The 242 HD has a stronger torque rating than a 231 or a 231HD; however,
the max GVW is the same for the 242HD and 231HD.
The 242HDAMG is stronger than all of them.
I didn't say this before but the 241 and the 241HD because it wasn't in
the question but the 241 family is stronger than all of them by Max
Torque ratings but isn't quite as strong as the 242HDAMG by GVW rating.
Personally I put more weight on the torque numbers than the GVW
numbers. Haven't seen a rating on the 241OR though.

Damn!!! It has to be someone who either knows you or someone that
passes by on your street...Especially since you live in BFE... Sorry
to hear about it though. Havasu's starting to get bad, though I doubt
it will ever be as bad as the Phoenix area... The weekend after
Thanksgiving, I found a one hitter contraption made for meth or coke
on the side of my house, right by my side garage door. All I can
figure is that someone was looking to break in and dropped it. Up
until that day, I used to leave my garage remote on my sun visor in

my Jeep locked.

More likely it's a meth or crack addict looking for some quick money to
support his/her habit.
I'm thinking about electrifying my dashboard with one of those taser
guns, so that if the car alarm is set off, anyone who tries to touch the
dashboard or anything attached to it (like a CB radio or stereo) would
get a hefty >>ZAP<<. Of course, I'd probably get sued by the would-be
thief, so I guess that idea is not a good one. =/

Subject: Re: OT: Ozieplorer, moving map and laptops
I'd like to second some of Stu's observations. Forget DeLorme for one.
Been there several times, done that, never again.
I've used several laptops over the years. Difficult but not impossible to see
in daylight. Have had at least one laptop simply fall apart after about 3 years
of this use (it wasn't a toughbook).
I've also got a Viewsonic one piece tablet pc. The form factor is great (one solid
piece). However, screen brightness on a tablet PC is a bigger issue because the
pen screen has inherently lower brightness. I usually have to shield the display to
see it.
We also have a Garmin iQue PDA which is better than the tablet and seems more
visible than the laptops. I use Garmin MapSource as well as an application called
Pathaway that uses real topo maps (imported from National Geographic TOPO! which
is what I use in the laptop and tablet PC).
As far as software I've never used OziExplorer but have used Fugawi, TOPO! and Maptech.
If you buy TOPO! buy the Arizona/Utah set if you want true 7.5 minute topos (not the nationwide
set, the nationwide set you give you a 200% zoom on 15 minute maps to fake 7.5 minute maps).
The advantage of TOPO! and Maptech is you get all the maps whereas with Fugawi or
OziExplorer you have to import them. My tablet PC contains the all the Arizona/Utah topos
on its hard disk. Also, if your PC does not have a serial port to connect to the GPS but does
have USB, I can tell you detailed stories about what you can and cannot do and the problems
you'll have with various USB to serial adapters. In a nutshell, if your still shopping computers and
laptops make every effort to get a true serial port.
Lastly, if you have a Garmin with a large display like Stu's, or my StreetPilot Color, Garmin
MapSource is an excellent source of "coarse" topo maps. Most of the time I'll use the GPS
only unless I'm somewhere where I have to see the actual USGS topo. That saves a lot of
wear and tear on the computer. To this point in time the GPS itself is the only thing I truly
consider "sunlight readable"

Actually my project today is to relocate my CB from under dash to in
glovebox, in an effort to reduce theft and pain in my passengers left
leg. I had already removed the glovebox insides from the glovebox
door to hide an amp (it's not like you can put anything in the
glovebox anyway!) and saw yesterday there is rom for the CB too. I'm
going to try and extend the mic plug to come out of the bottom of the
dash and reocate the speaker to do the same. I should have it all
done today. Ill make a post with pics if it works.

Check out the link and the bottom for picture and description. This neat
rack mounts between your roll bars for lots of extra storage and it holds a lot
of weight. "The Moutaineer rack gets rid off back seat drivers literally,
because it occupies the area above the rear seat! It is a heavy duty rack for
internal storage. Keeps important items handy from the drivers seat, and allows
full use of your soft top. Perfect for the trails where external storage won't
work" I bought this for my YJ, had it installed for 2 trips then sold the YJ,
It wont work with my CJ-8 so I might as well sell it. The rack is in
excellent condition. Bought this at Quadratec and spent nearly $200 with shipping.
1st $100 takes it. Can pick it up in Mesa.

The description says "drilling required in wheel wells" this is ONLY

This mounts using Ubolts to the front and rear upright legs of your roll

You might be able to modify it to fit CJs and 87-91 YJ, possibly a TJ but it
is for a 92-95 YJ. The mounting "brackets" can be moved to fit. I think
the only difference between this one and the CJ TJ ones are where the holes are
drilled in the brackets and rack frame for mounting.

Hello All,Jim Rogers is leading a Sunflower Mine Loop trail run on Saturday, January 3, 2004.<br><br>When: 10 AM ?
Where: SR87 and MT. Ord turnoff
Rating: 3.5-
Length:
CB Channel:
I have several people that would like to do this trail if we can find someone to lead the trip. We would appreciate being accompanied by one or more volunteers the have experience with this trail. We can firm up the details when we find the volunteers.
The Sunflower Mine Loop is a fun trail that offers a little something for everyone. It takes 3 – 4 hours to complete allowing for time to poke around and explore. The loop starts as an easy 2.5 trail that winds along a hillside and slowly descends into the canyon. After crossing a bridge you continue up the canyon until you arrive at the Sunflower Mine site. The mine’s processing building is still standing and is in decent shape. Stock vehicles can make this section of the loop easily, however the next section requires higher ground clearance and aggressive tires.<br>
<br>
After leaving the mine the trails continues up a shady canyon becoming more tight and challenging as it runs across and up a rocky creek bed. The bed is usually dry but can be very slippery when water is running. After awhile you make a hard right turn up a steep rock wall obstacle and continue to climb a loose rocky road out of the canyon and into the pines and junipers. At the top the trail continues with some washed out sections, passes a couple of more mine shafts, and gradually becomes easier as you return to the loops starting point. <br>
<br>
Remember to pack water, a lunch, and bring your camera. <br>
<br>
Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

Criminals don't give a rat's *** about your service or anything for that

we do. They're wired all wrong. They never cease to amaze, shock, and

Up
until that day, I used to leave my garage remote on my sun visor in
the Jeep (unlocked). Not anymore...I keep it in my jacket pocket and
my Jeep locked.

Check out the state association's page: http://www.asa4wdc.org/
They have links to all their member clubs; maybe one is in Prescott. Good
luck! If there isn't one, the State page also has a link to information
about starting a club.

Subject: Wanted: Stock TJ Spare Tire Carrier
Hey there -
Am looking for a stock TJ spare tire carrier that someone has laying
around gathering dust. A friend needs one in order to carry his spare
on a run (or two) over the holidays, and the bumper/carrier he's fabbing
won't be done yet.
Does anyone have one of these they'd be willing to donate to his
cause?
Please "reply to all" as his email and my home addy is in the cc:
list.
Thanks and Merry Christmas!

The description says "drilling required in wheel wells" this is ONLY
necessary if you want to mount it on top of the wheel wells and not to the roll cage.
This mounts using Ubolts to the front and rear upright legs of your roll
cage. You can move it high, low or in between.

<br>
<br>
<br>
Remember to pack water, a lunch, and bring your camera. <br>
<br>
Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!
