At the risk of restarting any arguments, I just thought I'd post
this geocaching log I read of a recent (12/4) visitor to a geocache
near Martinez Cabin. I sent this person a friendly email suggesting
he refrain from future "stone ramp building" and stick to geocaches
in areas his vehicle is capable of reaching.
"The most excellent caching experience yet! We did this one the hard
way. A few days ago we did the Box-O cache. Somehow got the wrong
coords in the GPS to mark the turn off from US-60.."not to worry",
said I", "we'll just go in through Box canyon". Big mistake! My
stock Chevy Tracker is simply not high enough to negotiate Box
Canyon. Had to "build" stone ramps to clear some of the obstacles.
Through a lot of effort and care negotiated through without damage
or dents. Found the cache at 12:36 pm. Cache is well concealed and
in good shape. TN, left SS Tweezers, signed log."

At the risk of starting a big debate. A lot of the ramp building in
and around box canyon is done by the miners still working their claims.
Most of the land out there is claimed and still working, and I
pesonally have worked one of them back in the 70s. The miners build
the ramps and genuinaly think they are doing something good. It even
upsets them when a ramp is removed and they rebuild it right away.

Its mostly gold mines. At one time Phelps/Dodge tried to jump all the
claims out there, and drilled exploratory shafts all over the place,
including on my friends claim. You can still see the drilled shaft

We need to be concerned with the "rock stacking" done by OHV to make
trails easier to traverse. BLM have little or no control over mining
but they do over recreation. Tucson BLM are, and will continue, to look
for every and/or anything to close access to OHV. The are using "rock
stacking" as their #1 excuse.......... this is one of the reasons
beyond "ruining the trail for those that can meet the
challenge"......... any "rock stacking" done by the miners are not
"changing the watershed and/or lay of the land" on the
trails.................
If OHV recreationists are "UNstacking" rocks ALL issues are dealt
As announced several months ago the next few months of the MGCP meetings
will rotate from north to south (Phoenix to Tucson) and will be evening
meetings in the local areas. We hope this schedule will enable those that
have been unable to make it to Florence during regular working hours to be
involved in the happenings in the Florence Junction area land planning
partnership.

We've plowed through the Vision and Mission Statements, the objectives and
goals and are now on a roll towards beginning implementation of the plans
we've all worked towards for three years.

BLM will have the inventory maps of the MGCP Pilot area available for
verification of trails and areas of concern. Although the non-motorized
trails are not indicated on this particular map we need to identify
non-motorized trails along with motorized trails. Also the Great Western
Trail and issues with it will be discussed. There will be discussions
regarding a trails plan on the State Trust Lands on the west side of this
area.
Would it be possible to just do it yourself? What I can see doing in
that case would be to drill a new hole where you want it. Then do
one of two things:
- Tap that hole for a bolt. Only downfall is there would not be much
material to tap.
or
- Weld a nut over the hole making sure you get a good weld so it does
not leak, then use an appropiate bolt with a copper washer.
It looks good in my head, however I could be wrong and it may not
work.

Hello All,
Jeff Titus lead a trail run Saturday, December 6, 2003 across Martinez Cabin
Hey everyone, how ya doin'? This years T4T run was terrific! Thanks to all taht came out! We must've had 30-40 Jeeps out there, and I'd swear everyone brought more than one toy each. It was enough to fill one 64 cu. ft. box to the top! We had 5 trail-leaders that led the rest of the group out to the desert for the rest of the day of fun and four-wheelin'. Special thanks goes out to Robert "Roy" Rogers, Steve Sample, Steve James, Tom Jacobson, and Ken Driscoll for being the leads this year. While everyone else was out, the Marines came out and picked up the box of toys and said "Thank you" to all who donated today and will donate tomorrow at the BBQ at Hunter-Offroad. They were disappointed they didn't get to say it in person and were asking us about coming out next year and hopefully riding shotgun with someone.
Thanks for comming out, it was nice to see everyone.
And Sharky it was good to see you out and about, your looking good man!
See you all next year!

This is the Second Annual AZVJC Toys For Tots toy collection (we hope to make this an annual event.) This year we are going to have it where we were supposed to have it last time, at the Jamboree campground. Actually, we'll be right at the gate entrance off of SR79. We won't be leading any runs or providing any food this time (sorry). All we ask is for a new unwapped gift. If anyone out there wants to lead a run, I need to know by the 5th of Dec. I still need leaders as of 11-19-03 Thanks!!!
We will also have a Toys For Tots drop off box at the BBQ for people who can not make the run.
Martinez Cabin is a wonderful trail for the "new" 4-wheeler with his stock vehicle and family.

This trail will take you into Martinez Canyon which has to be one of the most beautiful canyons in the area, in league with Sedona red bluffs!!

You can have lunch under the Cottonwood trees at the old homestead and you may explore the old mill.

Stock vehicle, stock tires and novice drivers, this would be a wonderful trail for you!!
Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

Just left the festival of lights parade we live right at the start of the
parade and got to see Troy's (Toys by Troy) float it looked sweet! Troy did
a hell of a job it must have been a lot of work. The Jeep was decked out in
lights even on the bead lock rims and was riding on hydraulics that made it
seem to be crawling over the rocks. It was a job well done.

this geocaching log I read of a recent (12/4) visitor to a geocache

he refrain from future "stone ramp building" and stick to geocaches
in areas his vehicle is capable of reaching.

If OHV recreationists are "UNstacking" rocks ALL issues are dealt
with............
PLEASE, no mo debate or flaming on this subject...................... I
think everyone understands the issue............. whether they want to
accept it or not is up to them .

It looks good in my head, however I could be wrong and it may not
work.

Subject: [TR] Trip Report - Martinez Cabin - Saturday, December 6, 2003
Hello All,
Jeff Titus lead a trail run Saturday, December 6, 2003 across Martinez Cabin

Hello All,Jeff Titus is leading a Martinez Cabin trail run on Saturday, December 6, 2003.

When: Saturday December 6 2003
Where:
Rating: 2.5+
Length: 8am to ????
CB Channel: 8
