FYI...

The Texaco station in Florence Junction is closing it's doors for good next Friday, Dec 12. The new exit and the way it was designed has cut their business to almost nothing.

The nearest station to top off fuel before doing trails in the FJ area is in Gold Canyon if going east on US60.

Bummer...

Exactly where, on the bottom, do you see coolant dripping.
If it's in the very front, it's probably just the water pump.
If you have a blown head gasket, you'ld see other problems as well.

Anyone had any experiences with this or know where I can get good reasonable repairs?

If your head gasket is blown you'd likely see coolant/water mixed
with the oil. Pull the dipstick - any water droplets on the stick? If
not, it's probably not a blown head gasket.

As mentioned the water pump is the most likely culprit (cheap/easy
fix). Could also be a freeze plug leaking. Depending on location,
this could be easy or hard to replace (sometimes they are behind
motor mounts, for instance). If you can't tell where the leak is
coming from, Gunk the engine, spray it off with a hose, let it dry,
then drive it around a bit and inspect it again.

You will allso need to build a gear spreader to push the large spider
gears apart to install the smaller 2 gears and thrust washers. I did
this with a piece of all thread and two nuts. Email if you need
details.

The head gasket can leak without getting into the oil depending
on where the leak is located. But like the previous post check, soft
plugs, water pump seep hole(located behind pulley on bottom side of
water pump snout. Also check the lower radiator hose to make sure
it is sealing on the water pump connection.
The best is to clean the engine, then once it dries watch
underneath until you pinpoint the leak. Also be aware that if you
have a engine that has experienced overheating, and the cylinder
head has warped, only remove what is necessary to flatten the head.
If too much is removed, your NOx levels will go high, which may make
it hard to pass emissions. NOx is reduced by the EGR valve, which
newer jeeps do not have.
You probably won't have a warped head, but it is good to know for
future rebuilds. Also if you cannot figure the leak out, I would be
willing to look at it saturday with you at no charge and find the
leak. Just e-mail me and I will provide you with a number and
directions.

Subject: [Tech] scrambler - not going into gear

Drove up to Prescott today. When I got there I thought it was difficult to shift gears, but it did shift.(really hard) On the way home I stopped at the circle jerk for a soda and some nuts and couldn't get it into reverse afterward to back out.(started to grind everytime I tried) Lucky, I was on an incline and rolled it backwards. Got all the way to 48th and the 101 and had to slow down for traffic. Came out of 5th ok but couldn't get it to down shift for anything. Pulled off the side of the road and then it started shifting again but still very hard. Drove all the way to 59th on the access road and when I stopped there it wouldn't go into gear any more. No noises or grinding except for reverse. When I turn the motor off it changes gears. When I start it in gear with the clutch depressed it starts moving right away, however I do notice a little difference when I depress the clutch, (feels like I am just ingaging the clutch, barely). By the time I got it home I wanted to shoot it and it was dark so I havent looked under it yet,not that I would know what to look for. I think it has something to do with the clutch linkage somewhere. Any other ideas?

This make me so sad. The dog was probably chasing a female (since he's not
neutered). He probably got swiped by a car and rolled. Joe may want to
consider not neutering him. There are many people who want to breed the Pits
if they look like the bloodlines are pure. Of course, no way to know if the
little guy is registered... There are also many Pit rescue groups:

Hi Gang,

I know that this is a long shot... but I'm going to try anyway.

This afternoon when I came home... sitting in my driveway was a brindle
(brown with black tiger like stripes) Pit Bull... looking pretty beat up. I
got out of the car and went to take a look at the dog. It looks like it has
fallen out of a moving vehicle or was hit... there is tar on the fur in
patterns reminiscent of an animal rolling on asphalt and minor cuts and
abrasions. The dog is a male and walks with a slight limp.

After washing the pooch and touching up the minor wounds... it is very
clear that this dog has not been a stray for long. Not only is it extremely
well behaved (as in follows commands to sit and stay) but it doesn't give my
cats or birds a second look. This is someone's pet... and on the off chance
that someone in the group is aware of anyone who recently lost an American
Pit Bull Terrier (brindle in color), please let me know.

Here is a picture of a similar dog... the only difference is that the dog
we found is a male and has a very light colored almost light milk chocolate
nose and areas around the eyes:

http://www.moiserkennels.com/CRICKET2.htm

I'll be posting some images around the neighborhood and holding the dog
until I either find the owner or find someone who wants a very nice pet. The
dog appears to be a purebred judging from the AKA specifications for the
American Pit Bull Terrier.

Please contact me if you are aware of someone who as recently lost such a
dog or if you may be looking for a pet in the near future. I will be having
the dog neutered and vaccinated before sending it home with someone.

Kind Regards,

Joe

I'm finally going to replace my old, beat up, stock lowback CJ seats
and I'm looking for input on what to replace them with. Obviously I
want something with a high back and good lateral support. I'd like
to try and keep it under $500 for both seats, but don't mind
spending more for the right product. Reclining seats are typically
not an option in the CJ-5 (and that's fine) so I don't want to buy
recliners if I don't need them.

Any input greatly appreciated, especially if you can provide web

This is the Second Annual AZVJC Toys For Tots toy collection (we hope to make this an annual event.) This year we are going to have it where we were supposed to have it last time, at the Jamboree campground. Actually, we'll be right at the gate entrance off of SR79. We won't be leading any runs or providing any food this time (sorry). All we ask is for a new unwapped gift. If anyone out there wants to lead a run,I need to know buy the 5th of Dec.I still need leaders as of 11-19-03 Thanks!!!<br>
We will also have a Toys For Tots drop off box at the BBQ for people who can not make the run.

Matt,
I put the Beard Supera (I think that is the model) with the slits for
the racing harnesses. Their web page is at: http://www.redart.com/
And I think that 4 Wheelers Supply carries them too. I have been
extremely happy with the comfort and off road stability.

I know this sounds stupid but hey you never know. If your grill is
propane don't forget to fill the tank before hand. I will be brining my
grill John and I will also be bringing a spare tank. Looks like I was
able to scheduale some time off for myself so I look forward to seeing
everyone out there. Also John Let me know if you need anything specific,
I own grocery store so If you need something let me know.
