That's always the problem... regardless of what the "law" says, you end
up dealing with people who have they're own

Just wanted to thank everyone for all their help and offers on the
T-15. I was able to find a used one from a fellow member, Rob Holmes,
and between his and mine I was able to put together a pretty good
transmission. Dave at AMC Salvage in Glendale is doing the rebuild
for me and putting in all new bearings, shafts, and syncros etc.
Should have it back in the Jeep sometime this weekend.
Thanks again to all who responded.

Now it will fire up but it spits for a second and dies. I cant keep

You have all been so helpful. I have a 84 scrambler that is stock with a very tired and old 258, 200k miles. Still runs well after it warms up,and is a daily driver now. I have posted questions about lifts and other things. The more I read the more I am in a quandery about what to do. I have heard good things about a wrangler lift, (soft ride)and a rubicon lift(sounds like a rough ride). I also hear that just about anything I do to it will make the steering even more eratic. The steering actually is pretty good until you get to 65 mph + and then any movement in the steering wheel seems like you've moved it a mile. I want just as stable of a vehicle if I am going to lift it. Will puting on wider tires make any difference. I have stock tires I believe they are 30x9.5 I have thought about swapping the 258 for a GM 350 with auto trans. Now I hear that the 350 will tear the rear end right out of my scrambler. I know that some came with a 304, so why would a 350 be much different. I have been asked what rear end I have and sadly I have to say I don't know. Would my VIN # tell me that. I wouldn't know where else to look. Here is my VIN 1JCCF88E2ET129517 . Can you help me ID my parts and give me some ideas about lifts again and what kinds of steering problems I might have as a result.(size,kind,etc.) I also need to know if anyone has had to change axles just because you swapped to a 350.

The steering on my 83 CJ7 used to be pretty loose. Adding a steering brace
and making sure all the bolts were tight on the power steering box made a
huge difference. The addition of a steering stabilizer also helped.
I have an AMC 20 rear axle, which is probably what you have as well. My 360
engine wasn't too much for the axles, even with 35" tires...until I put in a
locker, that is. After a spun hub and broken axle I upgraded to the one
piece axles and haven't had a problem since. Some people also truss the
axle and weld the tubing so it doesn't rotate inside the differential
housing. But with stock tires and an open differential, the stock AMC 20
axle should hold up just fine. With some one-piece shafts, it can be made
pretty bulletproof should you decide to add big tires and/or a locker.

Hi all,
Question about used Trac-loc differential... I am looking to buy a used one for my '97 TJ rear Dana 35. I understand, though, that these "factory" LSD's will wear out over time and usage (due to the clutches?). Anyway, I also understand that these are rebuildable.
Question...How?
I am comfortable with taking the cross-pin and spider/side gears out, however, how do I bring it back to like new anti-slipping performance? What do I replace and are their any "kits" I can buy to make it like new again?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks again to all who responded.

warn. I replaced the gasket anyway and tightened down all 4 bolts.
