Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with carbon fiber drive
shafts? I am considering one (or two) for the Willys.

Thanks,

I think once you get a nic or gouge in the shaft, it would fail. Same with
carbon fiber bicycle frames. Superlight and strong, definatly good for road
riding. It can survive a crash but if it sustains any damage it becomes
very weak at that point.

Jack ran the carbon fiber wheels for a couple of years but dumped them when
they kept cracking. Supposedly they developed a new "formula" but they just
didn't hold up to "rocks". I don't hear of any 4-wheeler using them
today........... racers do as they are light but they don't seem to be
strong. I would imagine drivelines would be the same.

Hello All,Jeff Titus is leading a Martinez Cabin trail run on Saturday, December 6, 2003.

When: Saturday December 6 2003
Where:
Rating: 2.5+
Length: All day
CB Channel: 8

This is the Second Annual AZVJC Toys For Tots toy collection (we hope to make this an annual event.) This year we are going to have it where we were supposed to have it last time, at the Jamboree campground. Actually, we'll be right at the gate entrance off of SR79. We won't be leading any runs or providing any food this time (sorry). All we ask is for a new unwapped gift. If anyone out there wants to lead a run,I need to know buy the 29th of NOV.I still need leaders as of 11-19-03 Thanks!!!
We will also have a Toys For Tots drop off box at the BBQ for people who can not make the run.

Martinez Cabin is a wonderful trail for the "new" 4-wheeler with his stock vehicle and family.

This trail will take you into Martinez Canyon which has to be one of the most beautiful canyons in the area, in league with Sedona red bluffs!!

You can have lunch under the Cottonwood trees at the old homestead and you may explore the old mill.

Stock vehicle, stock tires and novice drivers, this would be a wonderful trail for you!!

Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

Ok, here's the rest of it ;)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Took the flare off:

Let's see, I'm cutting off stuff with the plasma cutter:

http://fredtj.com/images/photos/pcsfenders/Cutting.JPG

Mmmm, it's pretty much all off now:

http://fredtj.com/images/photos/pcsfenders/Exposed1.JPG

Ok, Dan's grinding some of the rough edges off:

http://fredtj.com/images/photos/pcsfenders/Grind.JPG

Dan's trimming some of the other side:

http://fredtj.com/images/photos/pcsfenders/DanCut.JPG

Passenger side:

http://fredtj.com/images/photos/pcsfenders/Exposed2.JPG

Underside shot of the new fender:

http://fredtj.com/images/photos/pcsfenders/Underside.JPG

I'm putting the light trim back on:

http://fredtj.com/images/photos/pcsfenders/FredLight.JPG

Finished ! (Thanks for the help Dan !! )

Well, almost. I sill have to drill and bolt the top of the fenders.
I also have to drill and bolt that front hole in the rocker guards to
the new body panel.
Lastly, I'm looking (in some of the hot rod shops)for some really small
bulbs for the front turn signal/parking light, to fit right in the
front, tucked up by the brace. If I can't find anything that'll fit,
I'll use some CJ turn signals/parking light (round) and mount the in the
front grill, below the headlights:

Hello All,Kent Harman is leading an Unspecified trail run on Saturday, December 13, 2003.

When: 8:00AM
Where: Meet at the Gila Bend Love's gas station
Rating: None
Length: 2 days
CB Channel: 4

El Camino del Diablo

December 13-14

Meet at Gila Bend Love's gas station at 8:00AM on Saturday December 13. From here, we will travel to Ajo, top off our gas tanks, and head on down the trail. The first day we will travel 70 miles to Tule Well. There no facilities at Tule Well, aside from a few picnic tables and raised BBQ grilles. On day two, we'll continue west to the Tinajas Altas and then north to I-8 west of Wellton, for 45 more miles.

In order to travel on the Camino, you need to obtain a permit for the Barry Goldwater Range / Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge for every person in your party. Getting the permit is easy. You just have to sign the Hold Harmless agreement stating that you won't sue the US government if you decide to pick up that unexploded missile. A call to the refuge office in Ajo (520) 387-5226 can explain where to send the agreement, and what their turnaround time is via mail.

Any four-wheel drive vehicle can complete this trail. Due to its remoteness though, you'll need to come prepared for any unexpected surprises.
I think I've already answered this but here's info for files again.........
and yes Bob, there were only information brochures available at the highway
opening. Not even applications. Hopefully I can convince them to allow the
shops and myself to sell them again................. This whole thing is
beyond stupid but until we can get this procedure changed I guess we have to
play the game. Sandee

To purchase permits by phone:
CALL:
602.364.2753 (Phoenix)
928.774.1425 (Flagstaff)
520.628.5480 (Tucson)
They will put the application in the mail to you......... you sign, attach
money and return. They then sign, take money and return. !.......... about
2 weeks turn around.

IN PERSON:
1616 West Adams, Phoenix AZ 85007

If you park in the ACE parking structure off Van Buren between Central and
1st AVENUE the PLIC will validate your parking. The PLIC is inside the main

have books, information, gifts and maps for anything or anywhere. They can
print maps on site.

What Nick said is true; it is called a "stress-riser". Anyway,
composites/laminates are generally used in strength for compression and
shear stress - they do not work very well under heavy torsion stress
(i.e., Drive shafts are under torsion loads).

Joe, as much as I would like to take credit for "fabbing 'em", I can't ;)
Those are the PSC fenders.

Subject: need help with '94 ZJ CV joint boot cracked

Hello all,
Long time no write.

My wife ran over a plastic bag (like the ones that cover large
couches) and it wrapped around her driver side front axle. She
called me to cut it off so when I arrived I removed the bag and then
check out the axle. Her abs line was pushed into the spring (but it
was find once I moved it back) but the bag ripped one side of her CV
joint.

Has anyone replaced this boot before? Does anyone know of a
conversion kit that I might be able to convert them to u-joints?
Would I wan to do this? It has been making noises once in a while
during sharp turns, so the whole joint may need replacing, has
anyone done that?
I read the Chilton, and it looked pretty simple, but looks can be
deceiving. I would like to replace this before it snows up here and
we end up getting water and cinders in there to really mess things
up. (I am in Flagstaff).

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Thanks for the info. I found a site that makes custom CF drive shafts
and they mention building them for trucks. But with 4-wheeling you do
run a good chance of barber-poling it and it would definitely get
scratched or cut under those conditions. I am not that familiar wih
composites and laminates.

So, Fred...What was the total cost on them? And, how long did the
bulk of the job take?

I've been thinking about doing the same type of flat fender job on
BRUZR...I was thinking of some kind of low profile lights for turn
signal/markers and wlding up some type of really small cage to hold
them...Don't know what's out there, though. The side markers on a YJ
is about the size I was thinking...

I have a BBQ Grill that I need to get rid of. It is about 7 years
old, works fine, but one wheel is broken. It is a Home Depot, Char???
something.

FREE, FREE, FREE....

Stipulation:

It must be used for the Hunter BBQ on Sunday, December 7th. You must
haul it away from there.

Let me know who is going to take it from John!!

This could be the "worst" raffle prize...lol

I got the PSC fenders when they were on a special, pre-release sale, so
it wouldn't apply now.

The install itself took, mmmm, probably 5 hours or so +-

Best,
Fred
