While this isn't technical wheeling in the sense we're used to, it's
certainly technical in the sense that they depend upon their high-

I believe the ASLD will be selling permits at Ironwood Rd and Guadelupe

Hello All,mark current is leading a Crown King from Lake Pleasant trail run on Saturday, November 22, 2003.

When: sat-22 8:00am
Where: Meet at I-17 and Care Free HWY South East Side
Rating: 3.0-
Length: when through playing
CB Channel: 4
Bill Scheller will be leading this trip.
The Lake Pleasang to Crown King trail is a local favorite. On any given weekend, there will be numerous groups of four wheelers, ATV's and motorcycles heading to and from Crown King. It is a fun and scenic trail into the cooler pines of the Bradshaws. This trail was the first trip ever done by AzVJC.
The trail takes off from the Castle Hotsprings Rd and travels through the foot hills and up the side of the mountain, giving nice views of Lake Pleasant and the Valley. There are some tougher optional sections that can make it interesting.
The trail goes through the old ghost towns of Fort Misery and Oro Belle, both of which are remnants of the Mining era of the Bradshaw Mountains. All that remains now, are foundations and a few crumbling walls. Fort Misery makes a nice place to stop and eat lunch as the small creek usually has running water and there are trees to provide shade.
In the winter months, the trail from Fort Misery through Oro Belle to Crown King will often have snow and/or ice. In the summer, an early start is necessary to stay ahead of the rising temperatures.
Once on top of the mountain, the trail runs through the cool pines and into Crown King. In Crown King there are places to eat and have a drink, and a general store that sells some excellent fudge. The old Crown King Saloon was actually built in Oro Belle, and later hauled up (many years ago) to Crown King and rebuilt. In Oro Belle, the saloon was built into the side of the hill, so the upstairs were mainly accessable from the rear of the building (at ground level). The upstairs served as a place repose for women of ill fame.
There are campgrounds on top of the mountain near Crown King for those wishing to stay overnight. The fastest way down is via the main road which leads through Cleator and toward Bumble Bee. You can split off and go through Cordes Junction, which will get you to the Freeway quicker, or keep going strait and go through the little town of Bumble Bee.
Alternatively, you can take the Senator Highway toward Prescott or Mayer, this can be a very interesting trail during snow season. If you have the time, follow Towers Mountain rd through Crown King and up to the top of Towers Mountain, there are some excellent views and you can join back up with the Senator Highway afterward.
Have fun, remember to bring water and your camera.
Enjoy, and remember to TREAD Lightly!

This year we are going to have it where we were supposed to have it last time, at the Jamboree campground. Actually, we'll be right at the gate entrance off of SR79. We won't be leading any runs or providing any food this time (sorry). All we ask is for a new unwapped gift. If anyone out there wants to lead a run,I need to know buy the 29th of NOV.I still need leaders as of 11-19-03 Thanks!!!
We will also have a Toys For Tots drop off box at the BBQ for people who can not make the run.
Martinez Cabin is a wonderful trail for the "new" 4-wheeler with his stock vehicle and family.
This trail will take you into Martinez Canyon which has to be one of the most beautiful canyons in the area, in league with Sedona red bluffs!!
Most of you probably already know this, so this if for the people like me who did not know this feautre (doh!). Tired of starting your jeep by enganging the clutch especially on trails with steep inclines where you end up having to catch the gas, brake, clutch to prevent rolling backwards and restarting if you stall out...I dont know how many times I had to do that and hated it or almost lost control. I read in a off-road magazine that we can bypass this saftey feature...Only for T.J.'s with manual transmissions 97-02..
How to bypass (in the owners manual)
Behind the glove box you will see the fuse box
Look for Fuse Holder F-20 (left corner) install a 20Amp fuse, this will bypass the clutch starting saftey feature..
I have done this and now I can start my jeep without having to engage the clutch....
Yeah for engineers leaving us wheelers that option!!!
This will defintely help beginners....\
Good Luck....

Where: Box Canyon entrance off of hwy 79
Rating: 3.5+
Length: 4 hours
CB Channel: 4
I am going to do a fast run to Jack Handle. I just want to get out and wheel. I picked 7 am leave trail head because I have to get back home pretty early.
I have ran this trail before but it was at night so if someone who knows the trail better wants to lead by all means please do but if not then I will.
Jack Handle is a nice but fairly short loop trail that has a number of challenging obstacles. It starts out in a fairly flat wash. It then winds around as the trail gets tighter and tighter.

There are a few small waterfalls and many table sized boulders to navigate along the way, including a fairly narrow slot that you have to scramble up. This slot makes it a very tight squeeze for full size vehicles (and probably not advisable). The trail can be run in about 2 hours or so.

The first guy to run this trail didn't see one boulder and ended up using his jack handle as a temporary tie rod to finish the trail so keep your eyes open along the way. When you think you at the end, the trail juts up out on the wash and gives you a view of the whole area. Then you are in for a few roller coasters and a steep drop back to where you started.

This is not a trail to be tried unless you are an experienced 4-wheeler with a well equipped vehicle. High clearance and some traction devices are required. Water and your camera are a must.
As is always the case , you have to be careful when towing ANYTHING . I have
used these and all types of trailers and had no problems . Just take your
time and give yourself plenty of space around your vehicle for unexpected
problems . The fact that I'm a Heavy Equipment Operator with a Class A CDL
with air brakes/motorcycle/tanker/and double-triple trailer endorsement
might be helping me out some also..... ;)

I believe the ASLD will be selling permits at Ironwood Rd and Guadelupe
between 8:00 a.m. & 12:00 p.m.(we'll be handing out maps and information on
the new riding area just east of this area) The area between Ironwood Rd

Rec Permits will be available.

Subject: [TR] Crown King from Lake Pleasant - Saturday, November 22, 2003

This is the Second Annual AZVJC Toys For Tots toy collection (we hope to make this an annual event.) This year we are going to have it where we were supposed to have it last time, at the Jamboree campground.

You can have lunch under the Cottonwood trees at the old homestead and you may explore the old mill.
I suppose they could be the same thing but, I did them different. I
used the trailer harness you can buy, that plugs in to the factory

the "being towed" part. The diodes and that I wired in right below
the kick panel on the driver's side.
Let me know if you want some more information.

Subject: [Tech] TJ's 97-02 - Manual Transmission Clutch override (Starting)

Hello All,Joe Kearney is leading a Jack Handle trail run on Sunday, November 23, 2003.

When: Leave trial head at 7:00am

Just take your
time and give yourself plenty of space around your vehicle for unexpected
problems . The fact that I'm a Heavy Equipment Operator with a Class A CDL
with air brakes/motorcycle/tanker/and double-triple trailer endorsement
might be helping me out some also..... ;)

A long time ago I tried to get a matching 5th lock and was told it
could not be done. My CJ has 4 on the wheels and a different one on
the spare. I have to carry two (2) of the lock sockets. :o(. I took
an etching tool and scribed "Spare" on one, so I don't have to fumble

They may be available now, as I have not tried again lately.
