For about $45 you can make your own eletric/vaccum disconnect. I did
it on my XJ and I love it, and since I has a open front right now I
can ride in 2Low. I used 2 vaccum solenoids and a on-off-on switch
to control the solenoids ( they are EGR solenoids ). That way I
completely took the transfercase completely out of the
engage/disengage loop and i know when and when the front is engaged
or not, and the 4wd light works now ;-).

Hi all...
I am looking for a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) for my '97 TJ Dana 35. I dont have a couple hundred bucks to drop on a new one so I have been looking for a used one.
Questions:
1) any recommendations as far as brands or types of LSD's?
2) the LSD that comes from the factory (Trac-Loc) is of a type that wears out with time and usage... anyone know how many miles these things last?
3) Once one of these wear out, is there a cost effective way to rebuild the innards so it"grips" like it did when it was new?
Any help would be appreciated!!

I doubt you will be able to find a new LSD for a couple hundred
bucks. You might find someone like me who upgraded the rear axle to
reduce (slow down?) other axle problems. Good luck!
> 2) the LSD that comes from the factory (Trac-Loc) is of a type that
wears out with time and usage... anyone know how many miles these
things last?
I replaced the TracLoc in my ZJ (D35C) at 120k+ miles. It is in good
shape and it still works like new. It's taking up space in the barn.
I did a Super 35 upgrade to the ZJ -- which may or may not have been
a good value. The problem with the OEM D35C axles is that the axle
shafts ride directly on the bearings. There are no races pressed on
the axle shafts to separate the parts. So after a while, the axle
shafts (at the bearings) start wearing and ovalling. The bearing
material is much tougher than the axle material. The 'wobbliness'
will eventually start destroying other parts of the assembly.
> 3) Once one of these wear out, is there a cost effective way to
rebuild the innards so it"grips" like it did when it was new?
There are rebuild kits available for the TracLocs.
Hope that helps,

This is a hard one for me. I grew up with the man that started
Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society, worked with a guy that was in
charge of the mid-state Bighorn population (Az G&F) and worked for
the company that probably made the tracking collars for these
animals. These animals are very neat to watch.
I remember when ADBSS was first getting started, they would get
special permission to harvest a few animals. The harvest rights were
then auctioned off to people and the money furthered the cause of
ADBSS.
I believe the Bighorn population is on the way back. Soon they will
be re-populated to a point, similar to Bald Eagles in Alaska.
If they, AzG&F, wanted to do something good, they would provide us
with the frequencies of the radio collars and tell us to stay away
from them. That will never happen, too many pouchers out there. I
believe the frequencies are in the range of 148-152MHz.
Just something else to be mindful of.

There are actually two "Martinez" trails listed on the site. One for
the cabins, which really is a 2.5 trail. The full Martinez Canyon loop
is probably a good 3.5 to a very light 4.0. I've run it a few times
with TJ's identical to yours and they've had little to no problems.
There's a rock garden leading up to the Mill that is a good screening
test. I feel that that is about the hardest part of the trail. I ran
that section a couple times in my YJ when it was open, 4" lift and 33"
A/T's.
I know at least one of my other friends will be bringing his
kid(s)...ages about 5 and 7 (I think).
Come on out!
Tom

What is this trail really rated. The AZVJC site says this is a 4.0
and this is states a 2.5+. The only mods I have done to my TJ is an
RE 3.5" lift and added 33" Procomm Mud tires.
I plan on bringing my kids - ages 6 and 9 - if it is 2.5+ trail.
Let me know.

Actually, the fact that the host is pinging does not necessarily mean
that the http server itself is up and running. In this case, however,
looks like the web server is up, but is returning "SERVICE

frettchen@www:~$ wget -S http://www.azvjc.org/

So, looks like httpd IS up, but it's returning a 503, Service

You don't grind aluminum. It's too soft and will gum up the grinding
wheel. Milling or facing them off on a lathe are your best choices.
Or you could look for for shorter poly bushings.

That way I

1) any recommendations as far as brands or types of LSD's?

I doubt you will be able to find a new LSD for a couple hundred
bucks. You might find someone like me who upgraded the rear axle to
reduce (slow down?) other axle problems. Good luck!
> 2) the LSD that comes from the factory (Trac-Loc) is of a type that
wears out with time and usage... anyone know how many miles these

Hope that helps,

charge of the mid-state Bighorn population (Az G&F) and worked for
the company that probably made the tracking collars for these

Tom
>>> "Bill" <barnes@g...> 11/20/2003 8:04:43 AM >>>
Thanks

Isn't the area south of Superior part of the Tonto National Forest?
Just wait until they tranplant those little pygmy owls into an area
they never lived and try to say its the bird's native range.

Actually, the fact that the host is pinging does not necessarily mean
that the http server itself is up and running. In this case, however,
looks like the web server is up, but is returning "SERVICE
UNAVAILABLE". Here is the wget output:
frettchen@www:~$ wget -S http://www.azvjc.org/
--09:53:46-- http://www.azvjc.org/
=> `index.html'
Resolving www.azvjc.org... done.

So, looks like httpd IS up, but it's returning a 503, Service

Now when I go back and check, I see the Service Unavailable

You don't grind aluminum. It's too soft and will gum up the grinding
wheel. Milling or facing them off on a lathe are your best choices.
Or you could look for for shorter poly bushings.
