I was working down at Ft. Huachuca today and noticed what appears to be a lot of trails going up into the mountains on the base. The police at the entrance really couldn't give me much info other than a lot of mountain bikers go up there. Anyone have any experience running trails on the base?

TIA,

While you are at it, you might consider installing a LSD or air locker
in the front diff. I put a PowerLoc LSD in my ZJ's D30. It resulted in
a little understeer in 2WD, but after a few minutes of driving, you
don't even notice it. It was a very nice upgrade.

Rather than just putting in a open carrier why not put in a Detroit True
Trac or a Detroit locker? The time to add a TAD is when doing the gear
swap.

Lots of PB Blaster and a slide hammer. Be careful how you hit the outer
spindle. There are bearings in there. Maybe try to hit it from the
inside?

Subject: BBQ UPDATE, News letter

Ok Gang,

Here are some things I am planning on doing and things to look foward to
concerning the AZVJC Christmas BBQ

Ok first things first.. Sunday , Dec 7th, 3;00 PM

1) Munchies, drinks, coolers, and food tools....
For those of you that dont know what that is (first timers), follow
along Everyone chips in.. Everyone brings a little and we should be ok. Side
dishes, burgers, buns, glasses, coolers, hot dogs, silver ware. It is almost
impossible for me to keep track of everyone so if you are bringing something
just make mention and hopefully everyone will get a feel for what its coming.
I would like to avoid what happened last year..Kinda ran short on stuff and my
dad and a few otthers, taking last minute cash donations (big chunk form
Joe W) and makein a bunch of trips to the store to get extra food.

2) Tables and BBQ's
Gonna need lots of tables , some BBQ's and cookers. I need to have atleast
a half dozen grills going so everyone gets served quickly. So I am looking
for BBQ's grills and operators to volunteer.

3) The Raffle.. Looks like this year will be the best yet for the raffle.
I have been talking to lots of folks about this, I tryng to get a big one
this year.

4) Ramp...
New ramp same...... ole' trash talking.. hehe

5) Best Decorated Jeep..
I am going to be offering prizes for the top 3 best decorated Jeeps.. Since
it is Chistmas, I am looking for .. you guessed it, Christmas themed... I
will probably grab some folks for judges and have some fun...

6) Anyone seen Santa???
Thanks to Gary Holmes, I have access to a Santa Suit.. I woudl love to get
someone to do a Santa visit for the kids Think that would be pretty cool.

7) Toys and Cans
This year I will also be continuing the Toys For Tots Drive in case folks
cant make the T4T run. Bring an unwrapped package to the BBQ and put a smile on
a kids face. I am also going to do a Can Food Drive I really want to push
the Food and Toys becuase I would love to get some press out there to show we
are just normal people haveing a good time and try and get some postive light
for us 4-wheelers.. Anyone know someone at a TV station that might be able to
help?

Well that should do it, more news as it comes up. Talk to everyone soon.

Lets not ruin another good trail!!!!
This trail has been run by experienced drivers and rigs equipped to do it,

it, you do not belong on that trail.
There are plenty of trails out there for everyones level.

The term "reverse rotation" is a misnomer. It is often used when
discussing "high-pinion" differentials. The high pinion means that
pinion gear is positioned ABOVE the horizontal centerline of the ring
gear instead of BELOW it. For the gear teeth to mesh properly, the
teeth must be cut in a spiral pattern opposite that of gears for "low
pinion" differentials. So there is a difference in the gears. But
nothing rotates in a reverse direction.

Actually it is called reverse cut. When you have a high pinion dif. The
pinion shaft comes out of the top of the dif instead of the bottom, Look at
a YJ (high pinion)as compared to a CJ or TJ standard pinion. You have to use
reverse cut gears on high pinion difs which means the gear angle is cut in
the opposite direction from a standard gear set.

Subject: need help with some cj7 probs

I cant get the freaking doors to unlock from the outside, the key
will turn it all the way to the point where it actually unlocks but
then it stops there and starts to bend.
Also; how hard is it and what is involved in changing the wheel
bearings? Dont i just pop the old ones out, grease the new ones, and
pound them in with some sort of soft hammer?

thanks for the help.

On the doors (You are talking about hard top doors I assume) it sounds like
the mechanism in side is frozen. You will need to take it apart clean it and
lube it.

On the wheel bearings you did not specify if it you where talking about the
front of the rear?

Subject: OT--Welding question

I got a cheapie little wire feed welder {80a} welder from a cousin. I
know it's not going to be big enough. But I figure it's something to
learn with till I can afford a Miller135. I haven't had a welder in my
hand sense the early 70's. Anyway, what's the thickest I can weld with
this and expect it to hold? I'd like to build a welding cart/table,
about 2'X4". What should I use, angle or tubing, and thickness?
Thanks
Keith

There was a yellow YJ that was on the trip. I think he was with the 2WD
Xterra (don't get me started ......), I think they might have left
around 5. There was a yellow TJ that caught up with us on the trail
around the Ledge (which isn't so much a ledge anymore), but I don't know
who they were.

Sounds like the linkage on the inside of the door is binding or bent.
Should be an easy fix.

Subject: Rubicon w/ Nth Degree Belly Up Skid

I saw a white Rubicon at Hunters a couple of weeks ago that had the Nth
Degree belly up skid.

Is the owner a member? I have some questions, I am getting ready to
replace the "shovel". Anyone else using this skid on an '03 TJ.
