Yep. I helped open that trail with Greg (C-Roc)(AZ Dust Devils) about 5
years ago. We just ran it last Aug. Only two of us made it up the middle
(the hard line) on the first water fall that was me and Greg. Everyone had
to wench up the second water fall and then it started raining on us so we
opted out of the 5+ section that is after the second water fall.

Hello All,Kent Harman is leading an Unspecified trail run on Saturday, December 13, 2003.

When: 8:00AM
Where: Meet at the Gila Bend Love's gas station
Rating: None
Length: 2 days
CB Channel: 4

El Camino del Diablo

December 13-14

Meet at Gila Bend Love's gas station at 8:00AM on Saturday December 13. From here, we will travel to Ajo, top off our gas tanks, and head on down the trail. The first day we will travel 70 miles to Tule Well. There no facilities at Tule Well, aside from a few picnic tables and raised BBQ grilles. On day two, we'll continue west to the Tinajas Altas and then north to I-8 west of Wellton, for 45 more miles.

In order to travel on the Camino, you need to obtain a permit for the Barry Goldwater Range / Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge for every person in your party. Getting the permit is easy. You just have to sign the Hold Harmless agreement stating that you won't sue the US government if you decide to pick up that unexploded missile. A call to the refuge office in Ajo (520) 387-5226 can explain where to send the agreement, and what their turnaround time is via mail.

Any four-wheel drive vehicle can complete this trail. Due to its remoteness though, you'll need to come prepared for any unexpected surprises.
Does anyone mnfg skid plates for Cherokees? I took broken arrow trail Friday with some family I had in town. Easy trail but my stock cherokee could have used some armor down below. I was quite worried for my oil and automatic pan. Gas tank took a close call as well.
I dont want to do alot of work to the suspension since it is a daily driver for the kids but a little protection for family excursions would be nice. Any help finding some skid plates would be appreciated.

Richard -

Could think of a few things that might be wrong, but they're mostly
WAG's (wild *****ed guesses). On one hand it almost sounds like vapor
locking, on another it soulds like a connection may be loose, and on yet
another it sounds like you may have some sediment/flakes getting sucked
up into the pump/filter. (Don't ask where I got the three hands!)

Anyways, glad you got home. Thanks for showing me the scenic route
back!

Subject: Jeep Problem NO CLUE???

I have a 4.0 5 speed and Sunday was the first time I took my jeep on a
trail since I have had it out of the shop> we did H2H and it ran and
worked great on the trail. After we finished we were heading out and
the
jeep started to cough, backfire lose power where it would only go
about
2 mph if that, still coughing backfire etc then no power. I let it sit
for a couple min it would start right up move but same thing happened.
We finally towed it to the cottonwood entrance. I started it back up
no
problem had power etc. so I had a friend follow me back to Gilbert
drove
fine 60 mph THEN on Arizona farm road we hit railroad tracks which was
a
large bump then jeep started same thing coughing, choking and
backfiring
and losing power. Well to make a long story short let it sit few
minutes
then started back up and was fine all the way home. HELP I have not a
clue what happened. When I drove it on street and highway a few week
before I did H2H no problem and I drove hundreds of miles only after
the
trail did this problem evolve. Any suggestions please on what does the
group think happened. I have a custom gas tank with new fuel pump
which
is located at the top of the new tank for easy access and so I do not
have to drop the tank if fuel pump problems are about the tank is the
only new mod to fuel line system. You can also e-mail me @

rocks to get you through the trail you shouldn't be on the trail. You
should have a more capable Jeep to get you through.

Hello All,
Tom Schenk lead a trail run Sunday, November 9, 2003 across Lake Pleasant to Crown King

Great turnout, lots of jeeps, one poser, a toyota, and a scout. I think a few of the drivers saw the jeeps at the rally point and jumped in. Every one did good on the trail. No one broke anything. I got my first body dammage(tear). See you all back out on the trail! <Note to 2WD Xterra driver: Do not attend any of my runs again. Your burden is not needed nor welcome.>

Funny,

I also have Powertrax loc-rites in both axles of my 1999 TJ. My TJ
has the Dana 35C in the rear, and a Dana 30 up front. I am running
31" BFG all terrains with the automatic and 3:07 gears.

I had the same setup in my 2000 Cherokee, except the Cherokee had
the Chrysler 8.25 rear with the Dana 30 front axle. The Cherokee had
33" MTR's and 4.56 gears with the automatic tranny too.

I have not had ANY problems with either jeep running Powertrax Loc
Rites. I have never noticed ANY indications that I had lockers in
either jeep( other than when off road, of course). They are both
very quiet on the street, and have given me nothing but excellent
performance and no troubles at all. I had 80,000 miles on my
Cherokee with the Loc RItes, and I have 5,000 miles on my TJ. I took
the front Loc Rite out of the Cherokee and put it into the TJ, and
noticed that after 80,000 miles, the Loc Rite had no wear patterns
on the parts. People that ride/drive my Jeep have commented that
they did not notice anything either.

I am surprised that you had problems with your Loc Rite. Could it be
that you broke the axle off road by wedging the sidewall against a
rock? It sounds more like you experienced a weakness in the Dana
35C, not the Loc Rite.

For the money, I will take Loc Rites!

Really sorry I couldn't make this run but the 2 yr olds bday party
took precedence. Bummer to hear about the dead weight problem.
Hopefully this person will take your advice to heart and either
replace the Xterra with a capable rig or go hang out with the H2

Thanksgiving weekend and I am sure you will have a seat available if you
will not have your Jeep. This group always comes through and they will this
time. BTW my Nearly Stock YJ is broken until I get it in to Hunter or I

Any help would be appreciated.

If it was a White YJ it is probably Joey K again. He will be back in a
couple days looking for his Jeep. BTW be careful as when he goes on these
"trips" he feels it is clothing optional:) Jim F.
