we take 45 minutes and that actually is alot of water. If you tried
to get a mental pic you could fill up about 1-2 swimming pools. Thats
how much water disapeared into the ground next to my house or
possibly under it. Kinda scary, looking into borrowing or if i have
to rent a backhoe and digging but afraid to get to a point that the
roof of the cavern caves in and we all go for a swim LOL Jeff CamoXJ--

Check out http://www.sinkhole.org/do.htm - sounds like the first
thing to do is contact your homeowners insurance company. They may
not cover this if it's naturally caused (still would be good to know
one way or the other), but they might know who to contact to
determine if the cause is natural or man made (broken water/sewer
line, etc).

I found a set of 3.73 gears that I want to put in my 1990 jeep YJ, they are out of a 1993 grand cherokee. Both vehicles have a D30 and D35. Does anyone have any information for me about compatability? I don't see any reason why they won't be compatable but maybe someone out there has done a swap like this before and has some info they wouldn't mind sharing.

Subject: [TR] Bumble Bee Creek - Sunday, November 9, 2003

Hello All,John Tallant is leading a Bumble Bee Creek trail run on Sunday, November 9, 2003.

When: Sometime Sunday
Where: Crown King Area
Rating: 4.5
Length: 1/2 day
CB Channel: 10

I know some of you are going up the back way to Crown King Sunday. I'm driving up Saturday morning, and camping overnight at Horsethief Basin. I'm looking to hook up with some members who might want to run this trail. If it is to difficult, we can run the Desoto Mine trail.

Bumble Bee Creek is a relatively short but very challenging trail. Lockers (front and rear) and at least 33's are highly recommended.

The trail starts just south of Bumble Bee (FR684), and follows a class 2 trail for a ways, until you get down into the bottom of a canyon. You'll know it when you get there, by the large cottonwoods in it. Turn right up the canyon and keep an eye out for a wash on the right...this will take you to Bumble Bee Creek trail.

The sandy wash turns into a narrow slot w/ a decent sized waterfall that you need to scramble up. If there's water in the creek, things will get slick. From there you just have to pick your way through the obstacles. The trail will eventually exit to the right and will take to back to the main trail.

Remember to bring your Camera and Water.

Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

I'll have to go with Brian on this! Get your house inspected to see
if there is any structural damage before anything else!

Hi Jeff,

We take 3 hours to irrigate an acre in north Mesa. It gets old about
half way through the season. Anyway, there was a report a few months
ago about a couple of really large abandoned septic tanks or dry wells
found in front of a house in central Scottsdale. They were leftover
from the farm that was there before the area was developed. Maybe
that's what you have, or maybe you got lucky and are the discoverer of
a new cave system in Az.

Matt,

I guess as a newcomer to Az you probably don't know much about flood
irrigation. You might, but most folks who have lived here for some
time don't have a clue either. My boss thinks its an excuse to get out
of work for a few hours every two weeks. Flood irrigation on
residential properties is kind of a holdover from when the property
was a farm or orchard. Most irrigated properties are 20 years or older
since it costs a lot for a developer to set up a ditch or pipe system
to handle a development. If you want a really green landscape here you
want flood irrigation. Our acre costs us about $80 a year to water.
Compare that to the price of keeping an acre irrigated with tap water
and you can see why it's worth it. Since most irrigated areas were old
farm land there's always a chance you'll run into an old pipe or
plumbing system though it's pretty rare, it is interesting when it
happens. The one thing about flood irrigation is that if you have less
than 2 acres (I think that's the bottom limit) you can't schedule
irrigation at your convenience. You sign up for it and get it when
they (SRP) schedule it. We usually spend half the summer getting ours
at from 1-4am or some other early morning hours. Residential
irrigation is scheduled every two weeks from April to October (approx)
and once a month from November to March. November is the annual canal
cleanout.

There are two canal systems in the Phoenix area. The CAP is a federal
water project which supplies city drinking water and irrigation
to large farms. SRP started as a cooperative for farmers and ranchers
in the valley. The large land owners still have the majority say in
how the irrigation is distributed and at what cost. SRP also supplies
electric power to the valley. The CAP carries water from the Colorado
River. The SRP canals feed off the Salt River.

Actually, we had a sinkhole like that in our front yard in Maryvale,
when I was growing up. Our house was located next to old Fire Station
#25, south of Indian School Road on 59th Avenue. There was a hole in
the front yard and one day while cutting the lawn I noticed that snails,
by God, were coming up out of the hole. So I took the garden hose, and
out of curiosity turned it on and put it down the hole and left it on
overnight. I never did figure out where all that water went, because
the next day it still hadn't filled up.

The land that Maryvale is built on all used to be agricultural land, so
who knows, maybe there was an old underground irrigation pipe or septic
tank under our house.

Yeah, it's all new to me. Up in Oregon, they channel the melting
snowcaps into reservoirs and typically end up with more water than
they need and have to schedule controlled floods to drain the
reservoirs into the Columbia River. Maybe a water pipeline from
Oregon to Arizona is in order :)

I suppose for my small housing development lot irrigation is a non-
issue. A sprinkler system to water the two planned patches of grass
(front/back) and drip lines for the trees/bushes (it's all dirt
right now) should suffice.

I hope everything turns out OK for Jeff and he finds out it's just a
section of pipe or an old septic tank or such.

Hmm.. That's a thought. We are in a severe drought in the desert
southwest. Estimates are that it might last 20 years or so. Something
like that probably drove the Hohokams away a few hundred years ago.

The bad thing is that "modern" man is too stupid to take a queue from
