I'll take a stock TJ up against a stock Hummer for 4 wheeling
capabilities ANY day of the week.
Then if you REALLY want to show up the hummer, make that "stock" TJ a
Rubicon. :D

Hey VJC gang...is anyone available to help with the below project?
I had planned on doing the freeway opening on Nov. 15th but if I am
going to make a trip to the far east side, it would seem that helping on
this project would provide a better return on the investment of time.
Anyone from the west side of the valley want to caravan over on that
Saturday and help out?
Sandee, how are you set up for folks to help on Saturday?

Subject: ANOTHER CALL FOR HELP>>>>>>>>>
I NEED HELP AGAIN............. Below is a message from the Mesa office
Game & Fish planner that we have been working with for 18 months in the
planning and implimentation of the Desert Wells Riding Area in east
valley. #'s 3,4,5 & 6 are the most urgent for volunteers but if we can
get this project completed we don't have anything more on the horizon.
We can PLAY for awhile.
A couple of hours from each of you would complete this project in no
time at all............................... Please review the calendar
and jobs needed and see if you can't find one day to help out.
History: The riding area at the M.P. 201 in Gold Canyon was closed due
to EPA Dust issues and devistation of the land and ranchers tanks in
this immediate area. 33,000 acres were closed at 201 and south along
the CAP Canal. BUT........... 86,000 acres remained open and 200 miles
of trails were signed for motorized recreation. There are three kiosks
installed............ M.P. 207 off Hwy 60; M.P. 149 off Hwy 79; and
Skyline Rd off Ironwood......... There are 11 entry gates into this
area. Each gate and each kiosk will have a map of the area indicating
the trails available to ride. There will be maps and brochures
available at each gate for riders to keep.
The area along Ironwood Rd is closed......... both east and west to
Meridian. The project refered to below is placing poles and cable along
Meridian from just north of Elliott Rd to Skyline and then east back to
Ironwood. The project on the 22nd incompasses all of the above
including law enforcement writing citations for those cutting the fence
and entering into closed lands.
PLEASE don't put this off on someone else........................ we
need YOU!! Join your fellow club members for a morning of fun and
WORK and finish off the day with a trail ride in the area or for
4x4's........... the MGCP area is just east of this area.
Please email me with names, dates and hours you can volunteer.
Thanks, Sandee
Jeff, Sandee and Phil,
OK, heres the status of a variety of projects and issued on much of the
Desert Wells Mutli-Use Area including the Meridian and Ironwood Fence
Alignment projects. Some Work days are going to be difficult to
coordinate because of existing Club commitments and the fact that some
of the work dates are midweek. However, any assistance that you can
provide as per the listings below would be greatly appreciated. I've
included on site meetings and work days that I know of:
1. Chuck and I will be at a Skyline and Meridian for an On-Site Work
Cable Barrier Planning Meeting at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 4th to
discuss final cable barrier details for the Meridian project including
scope and position of cable barrier.
2. Troy Christiansen and I will install all 11 gate signs on Wednesday,
November 5th starting 1000 am at Gate 1.
3. Jeff and Sandee will be installing numbered route signs the week
November 3rd.
4. Post hole digging work on the Meridian Alignment will occur November
12th - 15th.
- AGFD bringing one auger and operator
- ASLD bringing one auger and operator (Bill Webster)
- CRG bringing one auger NO OPERATOR
- other diggers/augars still being coordinated
- Does ASA 4-WD, AZ ATV or AS Trailriders have may contacts who have
access to 12 inch augers for these four days?
5. Volunteers needed for Post Setting Project, November 12, 13, and 14.
We need help hauling posts from ADOT (Country Club and Salt River),
dropping posts off at site, and physically setting the posts. A 3/4
ton truck able to haul ALSD's trailer (with who knows how many 8" X 8" X
6 foot guard rail posts strapped to it) will be required. I understand
that mid week is tough, any help will be needed as we are short the
trailer driver, one auger operator and post setting crews. Email me back
with numbers of volunteers for those days.
6. Volunteers needed for Stringing Cable through posts, November 15th.
Volunteer labor will be needed Saturday, November 15th to string cable
through all of the posts that were set the previous three days. The
AGFD and ASLD auger will still be digging on the 15th as well. Email me
back with numbers of volunteers for those days.
7. Arizona Trailriders Volunteers to install Kiosk signs and brochure
Tubes, November 15th.
8. Volunteers will Fence Mend along Ironwood Alignment, November 22.
ASLD closure signs and "redirecting the public" signs will be installed
as well. Concurrent to the fence mending and signage efforts, there
will be an interagency enforcement effort on the 22nd. Additional
interagency patrols are scheduled for the 23rd, 29th, 30th, 6th and 7th.
I have verbal commitments from AJ PD and Pinal County SO.
Get back with me regarding any help with volunteer labor and augers for
the above dates.
Thanks
Berg

Price Road, in Florence.
If you take 60 out east to Florence junction and go south on 79, past
the gunnery range, after the town of Florence city limits sign, cross
the rail road tracks and take a left on Price Road. The road goes out
about 8 miles? You'll be right at the start of box canyon.
There is an Arizona 4wheel drive trails and back roads book you can buy
at any 4wheel drive parts shop. Just ask at the counter. They will know
what you want. It's a great book to have. It also has maps of the entire
area. There are many trails and runs out there. Coke ovens is one.

Joe....I would but I don't even know what to put for a location. Until
I have some basic ideas....where, time, etc., I am not going to post
this up as a trip.
Right now, I am simply trying to drum up some potential help. I don't
even know if it is needed for that day. From what I read, if they don't
have the post holes drilled and the posts set, stringing the cable won't
happen.
I wish there had been something happening this coming weekend as I have
it much more available compared to the 15th.
Thanks for the response!

Thanks
Berg

I would like them to let me drive a Hummer through the trails we run, I will bet I could get it through most of them. It may not be easy but I could do it, as long as they do not care about body Damage. Heck, I got my ScoutII through Anaconda 6 or 7 years ago when was hard. Anaconda today is about half the difficulty. We all know every vehicle has pro's & Con's but has long as you are having fun who care's what you drive. I have never seen it done but have heard of Hummers making U-Turns on 40 Deg. slopes in Moab. Not sure a Jeep could do that. The point is every type of rig can do things others can't but overall a Jeep can do more.

few more footings and barrier walls to go up before the weekend, and I'm sure
that it'll be ready for the scheduled date. I'll talk to the inspector

LOL.. I carry lots of spare parts in the XJ that I can use as weapons (a gun
or 2 as well)....does that count? :-)
Hummers are military vehicles meant for carrying men, tools, and weapons.
They have a nostalgic quality that makes them attractive to use for the tour
business. Most tourists arnt gonna wanna ride in my rig through axle alley,
terminators, or any of the other trails we mentioned anyways. Now, if I ran
out west tours or pink jeeps or one of those other outfits....It might be in
my best interest to call their bluff....hint hint NINA.. LOL j/k

Anthony........... are we talking about the same project????
My understanding was Game & Fish were going to put the gate signs and map
holders up around the perimeter of the Desert Wells area today. Game & Fish
are suppose to start digging post holes on the 12th........ hopefully
finished by the 15th although I doubt it. It started off being 2 miles of
posts. It is now 4-5 miles. They need help dropping the posts into the
holes right behind them as they cannot accept the liability to leave "open
holes". We won't be pulling the cable until all the posts are in. They
also need a trailer and help in getting the poles to the site.... I haven't
had the chance to talk with Kevin in the past couple of days to find out
what they plan to do re the "pull posts". We certainly cannot pull several
miles of cable without every third or fourth pole being set in concrete.
Just setting a couple of feet into dirt will not secure the tension needed
for the cable.
Somehow they need more of their own or the Land Dept. needs to find someone
but we still need to be on hand to complete this project. I know they're
looking at getting Trustees from the prison to maybe help.......... They
are definitely asking a lot of volunteers but....................
I'll let you know what's happening as soon as possible. Have the funeral
tomorrow so won't know anything until Thursday and we're leaving for Parker
Thurs afternoon.

Stu,
This is continuing work on the Desert Wells OHV area at Gold
Canyon..........
Hwy 60 on the north; Ironwood Rd on the West; Hwy 79 on the East; and
Arizona Farms Rd on the south. The poles and cable will run south along the
west side of Ironwood from Elliott to Skyline........ and along the east
side of Meridian to Skyline and east to Ironwood. This is part of the
closure from the M.P. 201 at Gold Canyon. The numbering we need to complete
is along the Hwy 79 section and the maps etc will be directing riders to
this area.

Hi James,
Please forgive as much fun, as this challenge sounds. Who started this, as
Ron nor
I sent out any email challenging anyone. Maybe you could shed some light on
this.
In any event, I do not wish to challenge anyone as the hummer cannot go
places the jeep can go and the jeep cannot go where the hummer could go (in
rare cases). It's all a matter of terrain in my humble opinion. If my hummer
cannot make it, I can always use my 71
TJ, with a F. I. 350, that is if I can keep my drivetrain from exploding.
Hey , you know where I can get a better deal on embrace conversion kit. I am
tired of
cleaning up oil!
Thanks,
Bill

I'll take a stock TJ up against a stock Hummer for 4 wheeling
capabilities ANY day of the week.
Then if you REALLY want to show up the hummer, make that "stock" TJ a
Rubicon. :D

Hey VJC gang...is anyone available to help with the below project?
I had planned on doing the freeway opening on Nov. 15th but if I am
going to make a trip to the far east side, it would seem that helping on
this project would provide a better return on the investment of time.
Anyone from the west side of the valley want to caravan over on that

Thanks
Berg

Geez, you guys are arguing about a website that was built to draw in
biz?
Someone needs to spend more time in the garage with their Jeep.

Subject: RE: box canyon

Thanks

Thanks,
Bill
