Subject: I had fun Jamboree 2003
Dear Sandee,
I made a post on the AZVJC site but when I look I don't see it. This is my second year attending the Jamboree. I don't really know anyone hardly at all to go four wheeling with and I won't go alone.
Last year I was the trip leader because the registered one couldn't make it. I had the map and GPS so I was it. We went to the Coke Ovens and had a great time with people I'd never knew before. This year I went on the Coke Ovens again and Erik Thompson was the leader and I think the tail gunner was Brian. We had a good group again and Erik was outstanding. He knew every rock obstacle, took pictures, and we did more than the Coke Ovens. We were out all day and everyone had a ball. Rick & Kathy who I'd met for the first time shared their Chairs and shade after the run. I forgot to load my chairs and Kathy let me use hers. Great couple. I wish my wife had come along. The BBQ Dinner was outstanding also and the sponsors really donated some really nice prizes.
It's good times like this why I joined the AZVJC and the Arizona State Association of Four Wheel Drive Clubs. It was your hard work and the other volunteers who made it all possible. I realize some people attend the event and not register for whatever reason. Hopefully they will be able to register next year. As for me you have my support and I will register and attend again next year. Thank you for all you do.
Sincerely,
Tom Fooshee

I don't think we are disagreeing. What I intended to point out was that the
Hummer in its purest incarnation is a military truck intended to carry men
and materiel. It excels in this role. The Jeep has evolved from its martial
origins into the ultimate off-road recreational vehicle, perhaps at the cost
of its efficiency as an ordnance cart. Point is: who cares? Recreational use
is what jeeping is all about. The narrow focus and intensity of the Hummer
makes it relatively useless (not to mention extremely expensive) in a
civilian setting as a recreational vehicle.
You're right in that the Hummer probably can't go through the trails and
passes you mentioned, but the rightful pilots of the HumVee would probably
say that's just an opportunity to use boot leather or air support.

Hummers can make it through Box Canyon.............. the MGCP and RAC
rode
with an applicant for "Hummer Tours" in this area. I was questioning
the
ability of the full width Hummer through but they did it.......... no
problem! BTW: They received a tour permit to do commercial tours
through
Box Canyon and out to Martinez Canyon but they cannot cross the springs
nor
drive to the Cabin.

Yea, the bottom line is the Hummer was designed to haul a bunch of equipment
and/or troops fairly rapidly across "primitive" roads. Primitive being a
road *we* would consider 1.5 to 2.5ish, or, to put it another way, anything
from a gravel road to an entry level 4 wheeling trail. It was not designed
to be [Deep Announcer's Voice] THE GREATEST 4 WHEEL DRIVE IN THE WORLD.
[/Deep Announcer's Voice] Unfortunately most "civilians" have not caught
onto this fact.

insure the success of the event this year!!!! Brian & Kelly Hopstaken
(AzVJC) also did more than their share. Bruce Utter from the Brat Pack

And never to forget ALL of you that supported the event.............. we

Now that might be interesting............
For "grins"......... the story behind the "V" Rock at Upper Woodpecker from
about 7 years ago:
At one time full sized vehicles could not do the "V" without major
damage............ thusly the by-pass made over the hill on the right.
Jamboree of '96 (?) two dealer Hummers wanted to do
"Woodpecker"............. Well, the long and short of the story is "V" Rock
was forever hereafter dubbed "Hum Dinger" Rock. The first Hummer got stuck
(BIG TIME) in the "V" and the second Hummer literally pushed him through and
then proceeded to take the by-pass........ LOTS of damage and we never saw
them again!

After you shift is 4wd engaged? Can you drive the Jeep and is the front
driveshaft engaged and turning the front axel?
Assuming you are immobile I would assume first your transfer case drive
chain or a gear is blown. Or could be the front ring and pinion busted.
If you are mobile does the sound happen when you start to accelerate?
This could be a broken motor mount or transmission mount.
If you have more information on the location of the sound or driving
characteristics that would help?

This week I traded in the old 88 YJ (*sniff :( *) for a 2003 Wrangler X, in anticipation of needing a vehicle that can make a cross-country drive, comfortably. I didn't get an owners manual with it for some reason, so hope someone has a few answers for me (:
1. The new 4wd shifter - the pull-up kind...it's a pain in the butt to get it into 4lo, and once it's there, it's a pain to get it back to 2wd. I've been doing it at a stop, while in park (oh, its the 4-speed automatic). Am I doing something wrong, or is there something else the matter? I feel I'm just not quite doing it right, because it does work...just thought it would "click" in easier...
2. I noticed that the dash console has "front lock" and "rear lock" lights near the "4wd" light. Is this just a generic console also used in the Rubicon, or is there an option to add the lockers to an X (I didn't see that at the Jeep website)?
3. No 3 (: I'm really liking the automatic tranny and bigger engine...makes driving all the way to work comfortable, instead of feeling like I'm riding a wild horse all the way (; If anyone has anything they've had to relearn going from an old jeep to a brand new one, I'd appreciate the wisdom (:
Thanks in advance for any info or tips (: KEC

Hi J,
There are many MANY ports... some which are blocked and others which are
open. For instance; port 80 is blocked... but port 8080 is not.
FTP port is not blocked... but telnet is blocked.
If you are running Apache... the solution is simple; redirect to port
8080 by modifying your Apache configuration file.
You can then go to your webpage by typing:
http://www.yourwebpage.com:8080
IF AND ONLY IF
You have registered your IP with a Dynamic DNS registration service such
as DynDNS.
Good luck... I ran in this configuration long enough to determine that I
liked it and it was worth paying for to have... then I paid for Cox's
business setup.
Kind Regards,
Joe West

Slow down, when you are just barely moving put the transmission in
neutral and shift the transfer case. Should go right in or right out of
gear.
Hope this helps,

Yea, the bottom line is the Hummer was designed to haul a bunch of
equipment
and/or troops fairly rapidly across "primitive" roads. Primitive being a
road *we* would consider 1.5 to 2.5ish, or, to put it another way,
anything
from a gravel road to an entry level 4 wheeling trail. It was not
designed
to be [Deep Announcer's Voice] THE GREATEST 4 WHEEL DRIVE IN THE WORLD.
[/Deep Announcer's Voice] Unfortunately most "civilians" have not caught
onto this fact.

I don't think we are disagreeing. What I intended to point out was that
the
Hummer in its purest incarnation is a military truck intended to carry
men
and materiel. It excels in this role. The Jeep has evolved from its
martial
origins into the ultimate off-road recreational vehicle, perhaps at the
cost
of its efficiency as an ordnance cart. Point is: who cares? Recreational
use
is what jeeping is all about. The narrow focus and intensity of the
Hummer
makes it relatively useless (not to mention extremely expensive) in a
civilian setting as a recreational vehicle.
You're right in that the Hummer probably can't go through the trails and
passes you mentioned, but the rightful pilots of the HumVee would
probably
say that's just an opportunity to use boot leather or air support.

I NEED HELP AGAIN............. Below is a message from the Mesa office
Game & Fish planner that we have been working with for 18 months in the
planning and implimentation of the Desert Wells Riding Area in east
valley. #'s 3,4,5 & 6 are the most urgent for volunteers but if we can
get this project completed we don't have anything more on the horizon.
We can PLAY for awhile.
A couple of hours from each of you would complete this project in no
time at all............................... Please review the calendar
and jobs needed and see if you can't find one day to help out.
History: The riding area at the M.P. 201 in Gold Canyon was closed due
to EPA Dust issues and devistation of the land and ranchers tanks in
this immediate area. 33,000 acres were closed at 201 and south along
the CAP Canal. BUT........... 86,000 acres remained open and 200 miles
of trails were signed for motorized recreation. There are three kiosks
installed............ M.P. 207 off Hwy 60; M.P. 149 off Hwy 79; and
Skyline Rd off Ironwood......... There are 11 entry gates into this
area. Each gate and each kiosk will have a map of the area indicating
the trails available to ride. There will be maps and brochures
available at each gate for riders to keep.
The area along Ironwood Rd is closed......... both east and west to
Meridian. The project refered to below is placing poles and cable along
Meridian from just north of Elliott Rd to Skyline and then east back to
Ironwood. The project on the 22nd incompasses all of the above
including law enforcement writing citations for those cutting the fence
and entering into closed lands.
PLEASE don't put this off on someone else........................ we
need YOU!! Join your fellow club members for a morning of fun and
WORK and finish off the day with a trail ride in the area or for
4x4's........... the MGCP area is just east of this area.
Please email me with names, dates and hours you can volunteer.
Thanks, Sandee
Jeff, Sandee and Phil,
OK, heres the status of a variety of projects and issued on much of the
Desert Wells Mutli-Use Area including the Meridian and Ironwood Fence
Alignment projects. Some Work days are going to be difficult to
coordinate because of existing Club commitments and the fact that some
of the work dates are midweek. However, any assistance that you can
provide as per the listings below would be greatly appreciated. I've
included on site meetings and work days that I know of:
1. Chuck and I will be at a Skyline and Meridian for an On-Site Work
Cable Barrier Planning Meeting at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 4th to
discuss final cable barrier details for the Meridian project including
scope and position of cable barrier.
2. Troy Christiansen and I will install all 11 gate signs on Wednesday,
November 5th starting 1000 am at Gate 1.
3. Jeff and Sandee will be installing numbered route signs the week
November 3rd.
4. Post hole digging work on the Meridian Alignment will occur November
12th - 15th.
- AGFD bringing one auger and operator
- ASLD bringing one auger and operator (Bill Webster)
- CRG bringing one auger NO OPERATOR
- other diggers/augars still being coordinated
- Does ASA 4-WD, AZ ATV or AS Trailriders have may contacts who have
access to 12 inch augers for these four days?
5. Volunteers needed for Post Setting Project, November 12, 13, and 14.
We need help hauling posts from ADOT (Country Club and Salt River),
dropping posts off at site, and physically setting the posts. A 3/4
ton truck able to haul ALSD's trailer (with who knows how many 8" X 8" X
6 foot guard rail posts strapped to it) will be required. I understand
that mid week is tough, any help will be needed as we are short the
trailer driver, one auger operator and post setting crews. Email me back
with numbers of volunteers for those days.
6. Volunteers needed for Stringing Cable through posts, November 15th.
Volunteer labor will be needed Saturday, November 15th to string cable
through all of the posts that were set the previous three days. The
AGFD and ASLD auger will still be digging on the 15th as well. Email me
back with numbers of volunteers for those days.
7. Arizona Trailriders Volunteers to install Kiosk signs and brochure
Tubes, November 15th.
8. Volunteers will Fence Mend along Ironwood Alignment, November 22.
ASLD closure signs and "redirecting the public" signs will be installed
as well. Concurrent to the fence mending and signage efforts, there
will be an interagency enforcement effort on the 22nd. Additional
interagency patrols are scheduled for the 23rd, 29th, 30th, 6th and 7th.
I have verbal commitments from AJ PD and Pinal County SO.
Get back with me regarding any help with volunteer labor and augers for
the above dates.
Thanks

You're right in that the Hummer probably can't go through the trails and

say that's just an opportunity to use boot leather or air support.

LOTS of damage and we never saw
them again!

Subject: RE: transfercase

When engaging into 4lo the jeep needs to be moving 3-5 mph and the trans
needs to be in nuetral. Once you've practiced this a couple of times it
becomes really easy.

Not that I think one is better than the other but you can't compare

rather have my Jeep for going off road than a Hummer. Don

Subject: ANOTHER CALL FOR HELP>>>>>>>>>
Thanks
