Hummers can make it through Box Canyon.............. the MGCP and RAC rode
with an applicant for "Hummer Tours" in this area. I was questioning the
ability of the full width Hummer through but they did it.......... no
problem! BTW: They received a tour permit to do commercial tours through
Box Canyon and out to Martinez Canyon but they cannot cross the springs nor
drive to the Cabin.

So I wonder what the price is for this Extreme Tour?

Hell I will take a passenger in my seat if the price is right!

The price by the way would be to support the OHV community.

we are not aloud unless we also get the permits. May have or more

I have an 82 cj7 with a T4(i think) and the book says to put ATF in
it yet when i looked inside the tranny I saw gear lube(regular oil),
what the crap is this?
Also what would a blown tranny mount look like on this jeep; i need
to know because there is a nocking sound and the shifters bounce
around way to much.

I do not know about the fluid but as far as I know the tranny fluid
should not look like gear oil.

I had bad tranny mounts in my 85 CJ7 and they knocked all of the time
until I replaced them.

Also check your transfer mount bolts make sure they are secure. Mine
get loose sometimes and they make a scary noise when I put stress on
them (you know when I go over the speed bumps in the streets, yeah
right). Really check that out also.

I've seen several Hummer tours going through Box Canyon. Always makes me
wonder what I could earn driving people around on easy trails.

Also met a guy back by Martinez Cabin who worked as a test driver for the
mini-hummer (H2?) He had just driven the thing down that really steep
trail (the luge?) like he was out for a Sunday drive. Go ahead, boo &
hiss, but I've never seen a Jeep go down it. :)

Ok, carrying a rack of TOW missles or an entire field hospital, maybe. Two
people and fishing rods? No way.

What a crock of s$&$.

I think, for the average tourist, a 4x4 trip in a Hummer would be a
heck of a lot more comfortable than a SWB Jeep. I think that's what
this company is trying to say. Besides, I would rather see them on an
easy, scenic 4x4 trail than any of the tougher trails. Anyone who has
witnessed the 'Hummer tour buses' out at the Coves at Saquaro Lake
would understand what I mean.

What kind of Jeep? Automatic or standard transmission? Are you standing

FYI: The "Luge" is the trail that drops into the 8' deep washout.........
the "steep hill" is the by-pass..... I've seen Hummers almost
everywhere.......... including "stuck in the "V" rock on Upper Woodpecker
years ago but I truly don't think a Hummer (original or H2) has ever done
the Luge........... most certainly not without massive body damage. There
aren't many vehicles of any caliber doing the "Luge" lately.............

The old Luge is impassible now. Too washed out now even for the
buggies. The hill he was referring to is called the Sluice. I have been

Date: Tue Nov 4, 2003 1:44pm
Subject: RE: what fluid and a tranny mount

You can usually check a transimssion mount by putting a floor jack under
the transmission and jacking it up. If the tranny moves relative to the
crossmember, the mount's busted.

Of course, that assumes you can *get* to the tranny to put a jack under
it. If you have a one-piece crossmember / skid plate, that's another
story.

But if your shifters are moving around whole bunches, that's a pretty good
indication the tranny mount *is* broken.

Question: Isn't a T4 a stick? Does Jeep recommend ATF in a standard
transmission? I know some xfer cases use ATF... (I have to use 'spensive
synthetic gear lube in my NV4500, so I don't know about most other
standard transmissions.)

Oh Oh Chris.............. "the old Luge is impassible now....." Sounds
like a "challenge" in that statement. There have been vehicles through the
Luge in the past couple of years but not many............. Don't EVER say
NEVER!!! S.

Okay, I stand corrected. However, I'm not a he, I'm a she.
Geez, what is this the "Good Old Boys network?" hehe Sorry, couldn't
resist - head's still spinning from all the recent drama. :)

Joe,

Better to be shot down here than out on the trail in front of a HUMMER!
LOL

Gee thanks Sandee for shooting me down.

I still think we should challenge them.

Hummers can make it through Box Canyon.............. the MGCP and RAC
rode
with an applicant for "Hummer Tours" in this area. I was questioning
the
ability of the full width Hummer through but they did it.......... no
problem! BTW: They received a tour permit to do commercial tours
through
Box Canyon and out to Martinez Canyon but they cannot cross the springs
nor
drive to the Cabin.

Dustin,

Shifting from range to range (HI to LO or LO to HI) must done at nearly
a dead stop (rolling 1 MPH or almost stopped).

Shifting modes (2WD to 4WD) can be done at speed....no reason to stop.
