Hi Tom,

I'm a certified CPR/First Aid Instructor (have to be as part of the
SCUBA Instructor thing). I'd be happy to teach a class to the group if
people want to learn. I can setup a class and then donate everything
above my cost to the Sharky fund.

The events of this weekend got me to thinking about first aid and
trauma,
so I made a few calls. An individual can get first aid and CPR
certified
in 5-6 hours at a cost of $35.00. The $$ generated is donated to fire
fighters charities. I have the contact info and would be willing to
organize a group effort if there is enough interest. It was also
mentioned that a few club members should consider taking EMT training at
a local community college. I'll be looking into that also.

Subject: To all in the club RE: Sharky

I was supposed to be in the jeep with Sharky when the accident happened and had Stacey in a panic when she got the call about Sharky. She told me she was worried and asking if they found me at the accident site! Not to mention the house next door to Sharky's caught on fire so Stacey and the kids were up all night. I know when Sharky comes through he will laugh about that since it was the neighbor whose car he parked the Mcwrangler on top of! I happened to have left earlier with Reno, but Stacey didn't hear me when I picked up my car at Sharky's house. I talked to her late last night and in the conversation she mentioned that someone dropped off a dozen playstation games which I was happy to hear about. I think it would be a good idea to maybe get some things together for Dalton and Cassie to keep them busy while they are at home. It'll help keep them busy and be one less thing for Stacey to worry about. Stacey's trying to keep them from the hospital until Sharky's in better shape to
keep from worrying them too much. If somebody can't make it to that side of town, I live in Mesa and would be more than happy to be a central collection point to get the stuff over to them. Sara's home all day so if someone wants to drop anything off, there's someone home any time. The meals and everything are a great idea -- just keep in mind that Sharky's parents are there too. If anybody has any questions or suggestions, drop me an email and we can make whatever arrangements we need to.
Thanks!
Scott F. & Sara

Subject: Update on Sharky's Jeep

Hi Gang,

We just got back from picking up Sharky's Jeep. a couple of things I
noticed right away:

1. The rollbar did it's job. Sharky's rig is incredibly good shape.
2. Ummmm. Sharky probably owes his life to Mike (RocRat) for
building such a sturdy cage.
3. The external cage protected Sharky's hood perfectly. hardly any
damage to the front of the Jeep.
4. Plenty of front axle type damage. it appears the rig may have
landed front tires first then rolled to the side.
5. I noticed some torn welds in places in the undercarriage, some
loose bolts in various places, and it looks like the body/frame may be
tweaked.

There are without a doubt some lessons for all of us to learn here.
whether it be how important it is to pad your rollbar, or the importance
of wearing at least a three point harness when moving faster than a rock
crawl or. well you get the idea.

I'd like to make one point here. and that is; let's learn our lessons
after Sharky is recovered and out of the woods. if we all focus our
energy on Sharky getting better; it will be the best for everyone.
After we are sure he is okay. we can change our rigs. discuss what
happened, and do our best to make sure that nothing like this happens to
any other members. The worst thing that could happen is if we walk away
from this without having learned something. but let's save the difficult
discussions for later.

Kind Regards,

Joe West

PS. I took lots of pictures, but would like to wait for authorization
from Mrs. Sharky before I post them.

Thanks for the update Joe and for taking care of Sharky's bad boy. I'm sure he will be very greatful. I agree that the lessons can be learned at a later date. Let's all keep our prayers going for Sharky and his family.

Hi James,
When I rebuilt my Jeep I went all the way and got
Recaro seats and I've never regreted the expence. I
can ride farther in my Jeep then in my Honda. I did
have a little more money then than I do now, but I
would recomend getting the best seat you can afford.
One with holes for sholder belts, like mine, helps
too.

Between Prescott and CK, we came across a jeeper with no doors, open
everything wearing a helmet. I thought he looked silly...Not any more.

Craig,
Not that it matters but that is a fallacy, you do not have to start a
propane powered vehicle on gas, I start mine all of the time hot or cold on
propane. How many forklifts have you seen that have to be started on gas
first? The dealers told people some bad info back when all of this stuff
went down. The point is I am not sitting in line to get gas that someone
else could use. I have (2) 30 gallon propane tanks in the bed of my truck
and the propane fuel is less than diesel most places. I paid 1.45 last time
I filled up. I run propane almost exclusively with no problems. Just wanted
to set the record straight. PS I would rather have a Power Stroke like yours
but that will have to wait awhile.

Subject: [TR] Trip Report - Crown King from Lake Pleasant - Saturday, August 16, 2003

Hello All,
Jim Florence lead a trail run Saturday, August 16, 2003 across Crown King from Lake Pleasant

Trip report early bird run to Crown King.

This report is a little late but as everyone is aware a lot has been going on.
I showed up at 5:10 to find 3 Jeeps already there. With the help of Rick Norman, Russ G and Flexy we had set up to divide the group into two runs as we had 30 plus Jeeps signed up. Randy Davis and I planned to leave around 5:30 with as many that were ready to go as possible. Well I was surprised to find at 5:30 we had about 20 Jeeps aired down and ready to go. Rick, Russ and Flexy took the rest at 6:00, turned out they had about 20 Jeeps with them also.
The plan worked out well for the most part even though they did catch up to us at points. We had no trouble other then a hole in a radiator hose that was quickly repaired. I had a great time as I hope everyone else also enjoyed the run. Everyone did very well on all the obstacles. I do not even remember anyone pulling out a strap. For this large of group we made good time up the hill.
I think the town enjoyed all the people we brought up and the entertainmentJ our group provided. I know the switchback was crowded all day and the owner seemed very happy to see us. He made sure to get pictures of all the Jeeps lined up on the rocks in front of his bar to put up inside.
As with everyone else it was a shock to get home and start reading about Sharky’s accident. As with everyone else my prayers go out to him and his family.
I also find it amazing how this club will pull together in times of trouble. Thanks to all that joined the Early Bird run.
Hello All,
Kent Warner lead a trail run Saturday, August 16, 2003 across Crown King from Lake Pleasant

Well, feel a little wierd doing a trip report with everything going on but.....

We rolled out a little late, about 8:15, with 12 Jeeps. Was a great morning, and I did my obligatory "missing a right turn" (seems to be a habit I am getting into on runs that I lead), but Bill, our tail gunner, got us back on track (thnx Bill). Had an XJ break a motor mount and had to turn back, and the lone CJ had a little trouble with its electric fan (but not until the rain started, of course) which got fixed and then the rest was pretty smooth. Overall I was pretty impressed, the trail was great and we had a good crew.

Sharkys group caught us on "the ledge", but they had a ZJ with them and someone was driving a red Dodge pickup, or some damn thing (BTW, Hunter, thnx for welding on the LCA skids on such short notice), so we pulled away from them after that. Rolling into CK was pretty impressive.

Mucho nice Jeeps.

Hope Sharky comes through his OK, he can lead us into CK next year.

Subject: Sharky Update

Hi all,

Brandon Reid, Jason La Libertiy and I stopped to visit Sharky today, and we were able to see him for a couple of minutes. Sharky is looking very good, under the cricumstances, but is still unconcious. He is moving around and fighting his restraints in true Sharky fashion. He has a bandage on the right side of his head and there is a little swelling, but not too bad. For the most part, he looks like he is simply sleeping and dreaming really hard.

Sharky's wife Stacy and the kids are doing well and hanging in there. Stacy was able to catch a couple hours sleep last night, and is pretty much on auto pilot and running on Mountain Dew. Sharky's parents are in town, and were just leaving to get dinner when we arrived.

Mike, Flexy, Rick Norman were also there, so it was kind of like a club meeting. I know there are many others that want to visit, but the nurses will not be letting anyone else in to see Sharky for awhile, so he can rest. However, all are welcome to stop by and say hi and give support to the family.

Keep the prayers coming.

Brad

I completely agree with this statement Chris! I feel that this subject
is to be left alone until we can all sit down and have a beer over it!
No sense in pointing fingers. We deal with the task at hand and pray
that if the latter was the case, then this person will learn from a
mistake!

From what I have heard and what I know of Sharky, this was not the case.
Sharky knows what can happen when you mix vehicles and alchohol! We all
know it!

In my honest opinion, "Eric" parajeeper02@y... keep it shut until
the time is right. Right now is not the time!!! Now is the time to bond
together and help a fellow Jeeper who needs our help! I will help out
all that I can!

My wife and I are willing to go the extra mile, why don't you go the
extra mile and forget the questions that you feel might be the cause of
this.

If you were in an accident, I sure as hell wouldn't be asking what I
could do to pinpoint where YOU went wrong, I would be asking what I
could do to help you in your time of need and then maybe ask you on the
side?

PISS off and lets just all do what we can to help Mrs. Sharky and the
mini Sharky's!

BTW-if you have a problem with this feel free to call me anytime, my
cell num is on www.azvjc.org !

Mrs. Sharky (AKA Stacy - I have told Chris and Janel Radoccia to give me
a call if there is anything I can do to help you guys out. We can baby
sit and I can cook a killer meal!) Your friends and Family are here for
you... Let us help if you will please! We are more that willing to
assist!

All our love to you, Sharky, and your wonderful kids!

I don't think at this time this is appropriate question. From what
we have heard there were at least 3 roll overs that happened as a
result of this trip, unfortunetly one happened to be severe. I
think for now the family needs our support and prayers more than out
questions.
