it's probably been said already but i just saw this post...........

MTR's are TOUGH tires PERIOD

you can run 24 lbs ALL DAY at ANY reasonable speed---75mph on HOT pvmt. they
will wear EVEN and not blow out.

now take them in the ROCKS at 8psi and get along all day with no sidewall
punctures.

these tires are TOPS in my opinion for on/offroad characteristics

Phil....directions to the trail from your location.

Take I-10 west to Loop 101 and go north.
Exit Loop 101 at Union Hills and turn left (west).
Go to 99th Ave. and turn right (north).
Follow 99th Ave. for about 20 minutes. It will dead end State Route 74
(SR74).
Turn left on State Route 74 and head towards Lake Pleasant.
Go past the big sign for the Marina turn off.
Continue on SR74 a couple more miles and turn right on to Castle Hot
Spring Road (an asphalt road).
Follow this road to the stop sign (about 5 or 6 miles) and turn left
onto the gravel road. We will be airing down there for he run.

If you have any other questions, give me a call at 623-846-7624 (before
9:00 PM this evening).

I've not run this trail before and have no idea where it starts.
Closest big intersection for me is 35th ave and I-10. So easiest
directions from there or I'll meet someone on the west side and
follow you.

Thanks,

Everyone please be safe and have fun tomorrow.

Trail leaders.... you guys know the drill. Let's try to keep the traffic
flowing. If it gets noisy on CB channel 4 you might have your group
change to a different quieter channel.

It will probably rain so please bring the necessary equipment to stay
healthy and unstuck.

Those of you in Sharkey's group please remember to not follow him too
closely. :)

For those of you that want to camp but are unsure because of the rain,
let me tell you that the ground soaks up quit a bit up there. Just don't
pitch a tent in a wash. Also like here in the valley they are usually
small storm cells that move through quickly but sometimes release ALOT
of water quickly.

See you at the top.

Erik,

Some folks, such as yourself, probably have more experience with the
tire than do others. While I too like mine, I've also had more than one
replaced under warrantee for sidewall damage (although it was never bad
enough to leave me on the trail). :>)

driver skill has to be thrown in there somewhere. you can bust ANY tire in
the rocks. swampers are one tough tire that i have seen perform very well in
rock also. bfg's are also well built. NONE are indestructable but it would be
wise to start out with some good meat.

Sorta OT, but worth it.
It's BIRTHDAY TIME! For Glenn and and I'm havin a "sorta party."
Today is my last day of 28 and tomorrow comes the old b@lls and
everything else that goes along with getting so close to 30.
Tonight, starting at 7:30 and lasting until whenever, I am having a
get my wish party. My wish is to stock my liquor cabinet...
finally. Bring your own bottle and leave it behind, whatever it may
be, I don't care.
The party is at 11240 E. Edgewood Ave in Mesa, AZ (you can get a map
from maps.yahoo.com or mapquest.com) for more info, call me at 602-
703-4961.
Come one come all.
I will try to pick up some sodas, you can bring something to throw on
the grill.
I have a pool table, dirt in the back yard (prolly mud right now),
big screen TV, Karaoke system and a cool neighborhood.
If you drink to much to drive, you can sleep where you fall, just
please make it to the nearest trash can or toilet for the gross stuff.

Hopefully see you there!
-Glenn

After having my Jeep into the dealer for scheduled maintenance I
tested the tire pressure and it was set at 40lbs.

The first time I went out to Lake Pleasant just to motor around a
little my MTRs got a sidewall cut. No problems since then, out at
Coke Ovens, to CK, or White tanks.

Where: South end of white tanks
Rating: 2.0+
Length: Not quite sure!

I decided to get out this weekend for a short run. Going to head out to the white tanks and play around on some different trails. Going to run Appetizer, Tax Collector and possibly Firebird. Just looking to go for a fun trail run. May do some exploring or playing in the mud as well while I am there. Please contact me by personal e-mail or telephone if you are going to make it. The South end of the White Tanks has a variety of trails for exploration. Cutting through the top is an old powerline trail that goes from the old Catapillar test track all the way out to the Hassayampa Riverbed.

There are also numerous washes to explore, the furthure up the washes you go the tougher they get. There are a variety of side trails and hill climbs to try as well as a large hill of sand left over from when they were building I-10.

Some of the Named Trails in the area include:

Subject: [TR] Trip Report - Crown King from Lake Pleasant - Saturday, August 16, 2003

Hello All,
Stu Olson lead a trail run Saturday, August 16, 2003 across Crown King from Lake Pleasant

What a day! We departed about 7:15 AM which was pretty good, given the large number of vehicles we had and Brandon's last minute tire change. I didn't get an accurate count but I believe I am safe in saying that I've never had a larger group of good lookin Jeeps behind me. The weather was overcast for much of the trip which kept the hot August sun away....and we only got one good soaking (the topless folks...like Bryant....got a bonus shower, no charge!)

One of the members had a battery issue and we stopped a couple of times for that. A vehicle or two got twisted up on that long optional uphill climb through what looks like a well used land mine field. Les also discovered that his OX lockers were not engaging and that gave him some some unexpected wheel spin until a better line was found.

We caught a fashionably early lunch right after the cattle guard where you cross the forest boundary. The group spent about a half hour there and everyone got a chance to chat and meet new faces (I know I sure did). We headed out just as the 8 o'clock group was pulling in (good timing for both groups!)

The ledge gave one or two drivers a bit of trouble that was dealt with quite quickly and all were on there way in short order. We arrived in CK shortly after that, only to find that Hackle and his early bird crew had consumed most of the refreshments and made a serious dent in the food! LOL

I want to thank Frank who was our tail gunner and Mike who was our waste gunner. Both did a great job and their efforts contributed to the fun and success of our trip. I hope everyone can make it again next year.

p.s. Syra says she had a great time with Porter (the rat dog) and several of the kids and hopes you can make the next trip too!
