Dunes Recreation area. There are a number of BLM Camp grounds, boat ramps
and hiking trails that are Fee but no OHV............... yet. Sandee

Subject: Opinions Wanted - Spring Re-arch?

Group:

Looking for opinions on the next step in the evolution of the CAMO COW.
I have a kit coming to do a shackle flip at the rear of the COW. This,
with stock springs will amount to a 6-7" lift in the rear without
blocks. I have Rusty's 4" lift springs front and rear now. I am
considering installing the rear flip kit and springs and then taking the
vehicle down to a spring shop and have the front spring re-arched to
bring the front up to match the rear. ANyone see any problems with this
procedure or have any recommendations for another way to go about this.
The COW is a '78 Cherokee W/T for those who aren't familiar with it. I
already have a hi-steer set up also so that will take some of the strain
off of lifting it anymore than it is.

On a more positive note about the coves,

At the last cove not sure the number, the one with the rocky descend
to the wash with the pretty canyon.

We parked in the shade under a paloverde tree, my jeep is camo green,
hides very well. We watched a female mule deer walk about 10 yards in
front of us and took a drink of water from the cove. She was a big and
beautiful. We watched her for about 10 minutes until she headed back up
the wash.

Sorry for the OT. Hehe, couldn't resist...

Several years back I was bow hunting up in Elk Park Meadows area.
Strollin' along, in full camo, enjoying the quite when I heard a noisy
truck approaching. So, I sat on a stump to wait for the vehicle to
pass. Instead, it pulls up about 10 yards in front of me. Two "dears"
get out and use the truck as a shield from the road (but, on my side) and
proceed to show me that they are "white tail dears".

I decided not to move and embarass them and they just got back in and
drove away.

I wasn't even disappointed that those were the only "dears" I saw that
trip. Camo is amazing... ;-)

Take care,
Chris

Let's talk enforcement. You're right, after a cleanup the mess comes back
and sometimes very quickly. Besides pushing for more law enforcement
presence, what about having a couple of people hide in the bushes or on the
hillside (washside) with video cameras ready. Non-confrontational. When
someone comes into the cove, video tape them. I don't think it would be too
hard to zoom in on the boat for some positive id, right? It's sounds like
littering is happening at a fast rate so within a few hours we should be
able to catch a couple people, don't you think? They are in the open so
there is no presumption of privacy. Make a copy, hand the tape over to
whatever law enforcement agency has jurisdiction and then document the find
in case the state wants to close the coves (to prove they weren't following
up on leads and therefore weren't trying to actively prosecute offenders).
Just brainstorming here but cleanups, though extremely important, are
reactive and don't solve the problem alone.

89135 From: Chris Krieg <rv6a@c...>
Date: Tue Aug 12, 2003 4:31pm
Subject: Re: Help, CJ wirng

James,
Before I start, this is all based on the 81 CJ manual I have but it is
probably the same for the 82.

First part:
I looked over the wiring diagram in my 81 manual and they show 2
possible plugs that plug in to that connector that has the neutral
safety gound on it. One looks like it is for a manual tranny and one
for an auto. The manual tranny one has nothing connected to that port
on the plug. It goes no where. The auto tranny one has a wire in that
port of the plug that connects to the neutral safety switch. So yes, I
believe that connector just goes to ground somewhere. It is used with
the auto tranny to complete the ground circuit for the neutral safety
switch.
Since you are running a manual tranny, it probably means nothing to
you. Do whatever you want with it. I could be wrong but this seems to
be what it is for.

Second part:
The red wire goes to go to a connector that goes on the small top post
(not the big side post) of the starter solenoid. It does not stop at
the big side post. The red wire also goes to a point where it bridges
off in 2 directions. One is to a plug that plugs in to the ignition
module and the other is to the multi-wire connector located to the
right of the ignition module. That connector plugs in to its mate (on
the next page that you do not have in this pic) and the red wire
continues on to the ignition switch.
Also, see that Lt Blue wire that comes out of the other smaller top
post of the starter solenoid? It goes down to that multi-wire connector
and then to the same 2 connector plug for the ignition module that the
red one from the coil plugs in to. Well, from that multi-wire
connector's mate, it goes to the ignition switch also. I believe these
2 wires (red and lt blue) are the wires that activate the solenoid to
let power through to start the Jeep.
From the ignition switch, there is also a yellow wire that goes to the
volt gauge and also to the fuse block. That seems to be where the power
for the ignition system comes from. It is connected to several other
wires in the fuse block including one that goes back (through the
connector) to the big side post on the starter solenoid. This is the
same post that connects to the battery. Power.
The black wire coming out of the ignition switch seems to go to through
a plug to a brake failure switch.

The green wire seems to go three places. One to the 4 wire plug on the
ignition module. One to the idle speed switch. The last to the base
engine diagnostic connector. All the other wires in that 4 wire plug
that plugs in to the ignition module go to a plug that plugs in to the
distributor.

It would seem that none of the various wires associated with the red
wire are routed through the ignition module such that they can not
complete a ignition/starting circuit. Are you using an aftermarket
ignition module and distributor? If so, you might be able to get power
for it from either of the 2 wires (red or blue) that go in to that 2
wire connector that plugs in to the factory ignition module. They both
seem to come from ignition on only sources that could provide power. If
I were a betting man, I'd say the red one since red usually signifies
power. If you need to connect the green wire to something, I'm not sure
on that one. It may just be a power lead, but it may require a signal
from the ignition module to work properly.

This is all based on what I "read" from the wiring schematic. I would
encourage you to trace back the wires as I did on your diagram to
confirm what I said. I could even come over and show you how I "read"
it.

Hope that helps and is not too confusing.

I have been following this thread, and I think I would like to through
my $0.02 in now. I am grew up in Iowa, moved here after living in
Michigan for quite a few years, and I gotta say that, in general,
Arizona has a lot of trash laying around, and what I have seen at the
Coves is truely astounding. I have never seen that much trash on the
ground outside of a dump. I just got back from a week in Michigan and
in the whole week, you know how many cans I saw laying around?

Not one.

Look on your beer bottle next time, IA-5 and MI-10, five and ten cent
deposits on every can and bottle. Works like a charm.

But I digress.

Bill may be on to something here. IMHO, at the rate that garbage builds
up out there, we are assured of getting that closed at some time. If
you haven't been out there, you should go take a look. The job of
cleaning up is just stupid huge right now. Maybe getting a little more
activist on this issue is a good thing to do, cuz if we don't do
something either that area goes away or it is just so freakin' trashed
that there is no point in going back out there (which is where I am at
right now as far as the Coves are concerned). Maybe send a few of
those tapes to the media, those folks seem to like to stir things up.
Maybe that would light a fire under whoever these boat owners (I won't
call them "boaters", I'm a boater) are that seem to think that leaving 5
cases of empties behind is OK.

I don't like losing things because of other people being stupid, and
that seems to be what is happening out there.

The Pull-A-Part as 3035 West Broadway ( 602 243-5400 ) has 7 XJ's they're

and body parts . Someone was looking for some gray carpet for the rear of

to be had but there were plenty of good parts including a 'open' radiator in
the 91 Sport .
Ecology ( about 320 S. 27 th ave. , 602 233-2277) was pretty picked over

was located in the SW corner .

If anyone has any questions you can e-mail me off line and I might be able
to tell you what I saw and save someone a trip in the heat .

In the future , maybe we can report back to the group what Jeeps were found
at which bone yards so that we can help each other out some .

I have OFFICIALLY started this new trend ( I hope ) now ....
Hope this helps ,

Hi I just bought this but also just bought an early bronco. I thought
I would see if anyone had intrest in this as a project or parts rig.
I do not have a title as of now but abandend titles are not hard or
expensive to get. It runs well AC is cold tranny does not like to go
forward but goes back well. strange vacume shifter for the 231 case
interior is quite decent but dash it taken apart & the temp guage has
been taken. it is a white 2 door, body is presentable front bumper is
bent & a dent in the roof as well as a few other little stuff I
believe. Power windows & door locks. I would sell it as is no title
for $1000 firm.

dent it again". LOL I can sure try to prove them all wrong though.

Horsethief is closed. It is posted as such when you get off the
freeway at Bumble Bee.

Now take that nifty turbo diesel engine out of the Mercedes

Anyone recommend a good alignment shop? I've had my 87XJ into Big O
down here a couple times and it's still pulling to the right.
Thanks

Forgot to ask. How do you properly adjust the track bar? Just would
like to make sure it's correct and not part of the problem.
Thanks again.

Rick,

You deserve it all of the way. I am game for another "Beer" run. I am
sure that has impacted you and your family a great deal but I can only
hope it made you stronger and wiser. At least you do know the amount of
people behind you.

Just be careful on getting to the run this weekend.

Those that have been around here for the last 5 years know that I
originally had a YJ when the club was formed and replaced that with
a TJ in February of '99. I sold the TJ in June and have been having
a serious case of withdrawal for the past 2 months. :(

I finally came across the perfect Jeep to take up to Montana with me
(our house closes this week and we leave for good Sept 2nd). I feel
like I'm getting a great deal on it. I've got Theresa's stamp of
approval so I'm picking it up tomorrow. The first mod will be to
slap on a club sticker :)

Anybody want to take a W.A.G. as to what my 3rd Jeep will be? I'll
post a pic tomorrow and some details. (Joey K, Mark B, & Stu O -
DON'T SPILL THE BEANS!)

We can baptize it into the club at the anniversary run to CK. I feel
like a kid again! :D

Rick,

I can't believe it's already been a year! I'm sure glad you and your
family are still around.

If Joey can organize another Beer run before September 2nd (thats
the day we leave for Montana) I'd love to go. I'm getting another
Jeep tomorrow and would love to wheel with some of my old friends.

If you are still nervous about driving on Saturday you can always
follow me ;) I'm going to be on Stu's run.

If I don't run into you before I leave I want you to know how much I
appreciate all of the tire work you've done for me. It's guys like
you that help make this club so great.

Regards,

Scott Kruize
proud owner of ????? (to be released tomorrow;)
