Hey Scott, I'm American of Cuban decent, born and raised in Phoenix as was my
Father and my Mother from Gilbert. My family is from Cuba, Spain, Mexico, and
Columbia. you cant say I'm prejudice bro. I just feel that "The majority" of
immigrants that come to America, come illegally. They come here in search of a
better life and such but they go about it all wrong. if a native Mexican or
any immigrant for that matter comes to the US, then go about it the right way
and the legal way. I work around native Mexicans each and every day, and some
of the guys I talk to are documented. let me put it to you this way-------even
the documented native Mexicans are downing the illegals because of the way
they enter our country and go about it the wrong way. illegals are living here
free of charge (without paying taxes), taking all our health and welfare and
taking full advantage of it because we cant turn them down because of a humanity
thingy. I guess you can say that I give great respect to those who come to
our country and go through the long and hard process of getting their green card
and becoming a citizen of the united states, those are the people that
respect our country our laws and value what the US has to offer. illegals come, take
advantage of the system, use OUR tax dollars, do whatever they want and can
go back to Mexico after they did whatever here in the US.

Amen, but this isnt a political debate forum, this is a jeep forum.
So lets get back to jeeps LOL I go to the coves quite a bit and I
also pack out some trash, I have been to most of the cleanups and
will continue to do so. I feel if the coves are in desperate need of
cleaning then why does it need to be publicized? Lets get some trash
bags and people and go clean the dang place. Yea, I dont like the
idea of cleaning someone elses trash in 110 degree weather but its
that or not being able to go to the lake and cool off in 110 degree
weather after they close it! Thats how I see it. It doesnt need to be
a family affair. It doesnt need to be a picnic. It just needs to
be.......cleaned up!! Lets do something about it. Jeff CamoXJ--- In

I forgot to add that we could pass out trash bags to the trash out
there and maybe they will pick some up also. Kind of like educating
them along with helping clean the area they love to trash. Jeff

Jeffs right. This should have been changed to OT the second it turned into
the crapper.

Rather than run the debate about all this OT post stuff again. I think I
will just say in the words of my many spanish friends "Adios Amigos". Its
been fun.

I will still check the runs on the webpage and see you guys on the trail
from time to time.

Everyone else already knows how to reach me if need be.

Well, the time has come that the jeep gets a complete makeover (paint wise).
After the Anniversary run the jeep is going to get a major change cosmetically
to prepare for a trip to encenada, Mexico with a local bike club from
phoenix. I wanted to match my bike color exactly just for oooo's and ahhh's I'll be
painting the same color as my Honda CBR900RR as seen on the picture attached,
before and after. I'll be more than happy to show a few members some
techniques, do's and don'ts, so forth and so on. I'll be posting it later as a workshop
deal, but I need to get it prepared first. the color is a lexus titanium with
a brilliant metallic. Details of the paint I'll be using will be explained at
the workshop. Keep your eyes peeled for the posting.

Show if you can................... we must be HEARD!!! S.

Moderator's Note:

Last summer it was in Oregon where a forest fire consumed a
designated wilderness area plus extensive acreage.

Now, the President is back pushing the Healthy Forest Initiative
while Congress (actually the Senate) prefers to to see the West go up
in flames.

It is time for the liberal Senate (Democrat and Republican alike) to
hear from concerned citizens to stop the flames. Clear the forests,
protect the environment and protect human lives.

**************************************

It's Time to Circle the Wagons

August 10, 2003 By Kathy Gibson Boatman

Last week I learned President Bush will be coming to Summerhaven,
Arizona on August 11. I was elated to hear it, but a feeling of
concern accompanied that elation.

President Bush is touring the community of Summerhaven, atop Mount
Lemmon as the town tries to recuperate from the wildfire that ripped
families and businesses as well as animals and birds from their
environment. The presidential visit will provide support for the
Healthy Forest Bill coming before the Senate in September.

Radical environmentalists, antiwar protesters, women's rights groups
and some local democrats are expected to join together pulling in as
many opposing groups as possible, including members of the Gay
community. They are planning a protest at the base of Sabino Canyon
near the forest service visitor's center, starting at 8:00 am.

I believe it is time for us to fight back and quit letting blonde
boys with dread locks and radical activists rule our country. The
activists were quoted in the Arizona Daily Star saying, "We think it
is important for him to see the faces of patriotic Americans who are
opposed to his agenda, even if he only sees us when he turns on the
TV in his hotel room," they also say they want to give people
something to think about.

In the past year of research, there is one thing I have learned. The
radical groups have joined together, become very effective with the
media, and they aren't afraid to stand up and speak their mind even if
that means they do it at a protest. Funny thing, the Media loves a
Protest and we really should give them something to think about.

I know I have at least a wagon load of research and burned remnants
of my childhood home. I will load my wagon, with the notebooks of
material that I have gathered documenting the damage the
environmentalists are doing. I will take the protest signs from the
rally in Flagstaff where Arizona citizens stood up for their beliefs
and showed support for efforts to remedy the forest problems.

Pioneers in my family came to this state by wagon. They were farmers,
cattlemen, businessmen, miners and schoolteachers. They were the kind
of people that made this country what it is today. When treacherous
events happened along the trail they would circle the wagons, gather
their resources and work together.

I believe the challenges facing America are just as critical today as
they were when the wolves were at the door in historic days.

It is time to circle the wagons. Start educating the general public
about the problems facing our country and the ramifications of doing
nothing. Our forests are in a deplorable state and they are just one
example of the problems facing our country nationwide. Special
interests influence or control numerous parts of America and should
cause concern for us all.

Our economy as well as our power sources, food sources,
military, borders, religion, property rights and basic American
freedom are under assault.

This affects us all, and it is time for those with common sense to
stand up and fight back. I want President Bush, the media and my
fellow citizens to know common sense has a voice in Arizona!

I will fight back, will you? Bring your wagons or your strollers,
wear your red, white and blue it's time to circle the wagons and do
our part for America.

Parking will probably fill up fast, so plan to arrive early. The
visitors center on Sabino Canyon Road will be a great place to stand
up for American values!

A fundamental law of public land access is:

Increased habitat designation for threatened and endangered species
is directly proportional to loss of access to public lands.

Right on. I am camping and have the whole family ready to pack in the
Jeep. I got a couple of spacious XJs carrying some equipment for me so
it should be a lot of fun. Now if I can just find that other tent. :)

Well, the time has come that the jeep gets a complete makeover (paint
wise).
After the Anniversary run the jeep is going to get a major change
cosmetically
to prepare for a trip to encenada, Mexico with a local bike club from
phoenix. I wanted to match my bike color exactly just for oooo's and
ahhh's I'll be
painting the same color as my Honda CBR900RR as seen on the picture
attached,
before and after. I'll be more than happy to show a few members some
techniques, do's and don'ts, so forth and so on. I'll be posting it
later as a workshop
deal, but I need to get it prepared first. the color is a lexus titanium
with
a brilliant metallic. Details of the paint I'll be using will be
explained at
the workshop. Keep your eyes peeled for the posting.

nope! believe it or not the bike was difficult to paint because of the added
material used to not only prepare the bike for paint, but get the paint mixed
with the additives for flex as well as the clear. plastic, IMO, if not done
right, the paint will peel or flake if you don't use the right agents in your
mixture. in order for me to now repaint the bike, I have to strip the paint from
the tank, and all the plastics. something like that you just don't want to
paint over and let the paint build up. with the thickness of the paint and flex
of the plastics while riding, not even the best flex agent added to your paint
will prevent the paint from flaking, peeling or cracking. I could get my jeep
done in one weekend completely as with the bike (which has still new paint)
would take about a week to complete. when I painted the bike it took me four
days to prep, paint and reassemble.

i put the jeep in 4x4 the front tires are not spinning the drive shaft spins
and all the teeth are fine in side. but the drivers side spider gear does not
spin at all. i also grabbed the tire at the top and bottom and there was a
little bit of slop when i shook it. i looked to see where it was lose and it
looks like it is the axle shaft. im not to sure how the front axle works,
does anyone have any idea what might be my problem?

Justin,

Another club member scheduled a clean-up once, for August, at another
wheelin' sight. Rather than the 50 or 75 people that we usually get (I
believe we had at least that many at the Coves the last time), we had
about 10 or 12. We busted our butts in that heat....and it was anything
but a "come on out with the family and have a good time with your fellow
club members" event. While we made some small impact on the amount of
trash that was there, it didn't look all that good in the eyes of the
land management folks (in my opinion) when only a dozen people came to
clean up.

Like I said, you can schedule a cleanup if you wish, but I honestly
believe you are doing this club a disfavor by doing so. I've attended
just about every cleanup the club has done and several of them this club
has not hosted. I will help on the next cleanup....but I won't be doing
it if it is 110 degrees.

Just my 2 cents.

Just my brief .02

I have been to the coves once, but I know there are tons of people
out there to enjoy themselves. Unfortunately not many can keep their
messes clean. This makes the ORV community look bad even though it
may not be directly us.

Why don't we schedule a cleanup sometime soon? Sure it may be hot,
but that shouldn't stop us. It is our land and our fun memories that
are getting pushed closer and closer to becoming zero. The longer we
wait the worse it looks on us. I know it's unbelievably hot out
there, but we could do this in the early AM or evening. I think we
just need to bring along lots of water and shade.

I guess I just don't think the heat should stop us from possibly
losing our land. If the place looks as bad as everyone states then
lets get something together. Just think about all the memories and
good times out there. I know I will gladly be there if we get
something going!

Respectfully,
Justin Olson

If you had to stack so many rocks, sounds like the trail was beyond the
level of the cherokee. Should have done trails made for rigs with open
diff's. This is how our once 5 rated trails are now 2 -3 ratings.

Subject: Wiring for a CJ7

I am looking for some help wirng my CJ7, or should I say rewiring. For now I
am dealing with the passenger side of the engine compartment plug/harness.

There are 12 pins out, 1 is the oil pressure, 1 is the temperture, 1 is the
heater fan, 1 is to the tranny, 1 is to the xfer case. So 7 left.
CJ's had a ampmeter which means the altenator had to be hooked in series
with the battery. I changed to a voltmeter, I have seen what happens when
ampmeter go bad. So if I remove the ampmeter I only need one of these wires.
To save headaches I sould just connect the two dash ends of these wires
together at the voltmeter.
So 1 pin is for the power coming in and and 1 pin is for power out
(ampmeter).

5 left, anyone want to add a few? Then we just need to match them up with
the colors.

I am sure a couple are for starting, they go to the selenoid, and at least
one is a "key on" power. Maybe it won't be that hard to figure out.

Can anyone help me fill in the blanks?
Even if it is colors for the above mentioned. Maybe someone has a FSM. Oh
yeah, I think, on a CJ with a factory tach there are 13 pins.

TIA

Depends on how you use the XJ. If you go into snow country the full
time mode of the 242is nice to have. It is also nice for blasting
down dirt roads.

If you put a auto locker in the front the full time mode becomes
pretty useless on the 242. So if you stay with the 242 plan on a
selectable locker or a true trac in front.

The 231 is easier to get things like a SYE for. I also has HD shafts
available for it.

So bottom line is if you want a hardcore offroader go with the 231.
If you want a allround XJ then go with the 242.

My first mechanics job, first day on the job, first car I ever
touched... I
burned up an entire wiring harness in a new car (back in 79) because I
forgot to disconnect the battery. I watched the harness burn like a
fuse...
and total the car. It was kinda cool when it went through the firewall
because the inside of the car filled with smoke... it looked neat!
I was standing there mesmerized watching the harness sizzle it's way
from
the alternator up to the firewall and then into the car.

It was I am sad to admit, the first job I was ever fired from :D I was
really glad I wasn't around when they explained to the owner why their
car
was worthless.... needless to say; I learned the hard way.
