turn to find one.

Problem is, I dont even know if there is somehting like this. Looking for
"gadget" that has a compass, outdoor tempe gauge, and maybe an altitude
thingy.
Being lighted would be big plus. I can stick on the dash board or

I have previously had a powertrax no-slip locker on a rear axle and was pretty happy with it. I currently have a 99 TJ with a factory trac-loc limited slip on the rear which I would like to keep in place. I am considering putting a Powertrax no-slip on the front end. My question is if you get any noticeable steering side effects on the front-end Powertrax while you are in two wheel drive on the street.

I agree...just because you have a BIG credit card, it doesn't make you a 'wheeler. My dad wouldn't let me get my license until I knew how to fix my junk, and I am forever gratefull to him for it. I am 50 now :(, and my 15 year old and 9 year old sons both know how to repair Jeeps. The old saying is true..."jeeps are built, not bought". I derive much more sastifaction having scrounged and built my junk, rather than paying somebody else to do it.

jetowle2000 <James.Towle@a...> wrote:
Like I said, this isn't directed at anyone in particular.

I 'think' there is a problem that I haven't seen before now. That
is, people can go out and buy almost any rig or have a number of
different companies modify their rig. Then these people don't
maintain their rig, they don't know what they have and if they did
know what they have they don't know how to fix it if it breaks. Who
does that leave to fix their rig when it breaks?

As for me, I hate letting other people working on my junk. I don't
set gears though, leave that to the professionals. I, like Nick,
have not gone wheeling a few times because maintenence had to be
done first.

This is a question about trail leaders, that might be considered, if
you were looking at from my point of view; I have a bad back (hell,
sometimes I can't do what needs to be done on my junk), but if
someone breaks down that doesn't know how to fix their rig and they
are expecting me to do it and my back is acting up. They might be in
trouble no matter what the situation is.

Do not get me wrong, breaking is part of the game and I don't mind
helping. A bunch of you know this.

Three things:
Don't sit on the sideline and watch someone fix your rig.
Anticipate breaks, do maintenence.
Be prepared (the old Boy Scout thing), as you can be. Something is
going to break, it's just a matter of time.

I know this is short notice, off topic and a long shot, but I thought I'd ask for some help anyways. I am having A LOT of rock delivered tomorrow morning in order to fix up the yard. I don't have anything to offer besides cold beverages and some food. Any help during 7 AM and 2 PM would be great starting tomorrow, Tuesday, until I get it done. I could use all the wheelbarrows, shovels, and rakes possible. I live on the East side near Power & Thomas. You can call me anytime for directions at 602.697.8520.

Again, any help (even an hour) would be greatly appreciated. I work nights so this is why I need to get this done during the day. TIA.

Ben,

I had the same problem with the A/C selector switch in my TJ, it turned out
to be the knob itself, the insides were broken and when you turned it you
were not actually moving the switch, just the outside of the knob.

Try pulling it off and see if its broken. They just pull straight off.

This is to all of you who signed up on the "do not call"

Subject: [TR] Crown King from Lake Pleasant - Saturday, August 16, 2003 - Reminder

Hello All,Leonard Pennock is leading a Crown King from Lake Pleasant trail run on Saturday, August 16, 2003.

When: 1:30pm (For people that just can't get there in the morning"
Where: Castle Hot Springs Road, past the last entrance to the toll booth by the lake, just after where it turns from asphalt to gravel on the left side of the road.
Rating: 3.0-
Length: Rest of the Day.
CB Channel: 4 & FRS 4,0

Yet another one of the Birthday Runs. This trip is for those people that have conflicts that preveent them from going on one of the morning runs. I will probally be hot so bring plenty of water and AC will be prefered.

The Lake Pleasang to Crown King trail is a local favorite. On any given weekend, there will be numerous groups of four wheelers, ATV's and motorcycles heading to and from Crown King. It is a fun and scenic trail into the cooler pines of the Bradshaws. This trail was the first trip ever done by AzVJC.

The trail takes off from the Castle Hotsprings Rd and travels through the foot hills and up the side of the mountain, giving nice views of Lake Pleasant and the Valley. There are some tougher optional sections that can make it interesting.

The trail goes through the old ghost towns of Fort Misery and Oro Belle, both of which are remnants of the Mining era of the Bradshaw Mountains. All that remains now, are foundations and a few crumbling walls. Fort Misery makes a nice place to stop and eat lunch as the small creek usually has running water and there are trees to provide shade.

In the winter months, the trail from Fort Misery through Oro Belle to Crown King will often have snow and/or ice. In the summer, an early start is necessary to stay ahead of the rising temperatures.

Once on top of the mountain, the trail runs through the cool pines and into Crown King. In Crown King there are places to eat and have a drink, and a general store that sells some excellent fudge. The old Crown King Saloon was actually built in Oro Belle, and later hauled up (many years ago) to Crown King and rebuilt. In Oro Belle, the saloon was built into the side of the hill, so the upstairs were mainly accessable from the rear of the building (at ground level). The upstairs served as a place repose for women of ill fame.

There are campgrounds on top of the mountain near Crown King for those wishing to stay overnight. The fastest way down is via the main road which leads through Cleator and toward Bumble Bee. You can split off and go through Cordes Junction, which will get you to the Freeway quicker, or keep going strait and go through the little town of Bumble Bee.

Alternatively, you can take the Senator Highway toward Prescott or Mayer, this can be a very interesting trail during snow season. If you have the time, follow Towers Mountain rd through Crown King and up to the top of Towers Mountain, there are some excellent views and you can join back up with the Senator Highway afterward.

Have fun, remember to bring water and your camera.

Enjoy, and remember to TREAD Lightly!

Sounds like either the fan switch or the resistors the switch actuates
have gone bad. Usually it will run in the HIGH position because the
resistor pack is completely bypassed by the HIGH position relay.

Thanks John, I pulled the knob but it is fine. Nothing broken in
there. The blower does come on if I jimmy the switch and hold it
between settings. When the blower kicks on at one of these settings,
I hear a sound inside the dash around the glove box. It sounds like
a relay. Could a bad relay cause a problem such as this?

If I can add my .02 cents. . . .

Lets assume no one is getting paid to lead the group.

I feel that the "Trail Boss" leads the group, the "Tail Gunner" makes
sure that everyone gets through (or gets the group to stop and help),
BUT, no one gets left behind. It is the Groups responsibility to
make sure that everyone gets off the trail and back to pavement or
the meeting spot/end of the run. If someone wants to leave the group,
they should notify the "Trail Boss" and the "Tail Gunner". Of course,
those that go should be prepared as best they can for the trail. In
my 40 years of wheelin, this is how it has always been with the
groups I have gone out with.

With the way the AZVJC is set up, it is hard to tell someone that
they can't come on a trip with the group. I think that is why some
smaller groups have split off and go wheeling without posting trips.
Personally I go on very few AZVJC trips for a lot of the reasons that
have been mentioned in the previous posts on this topic, either my
rig is not set up, or I don't feel comfortable with some of the
attendees. But that is my choice.

Again, in my opinion, no one should ever be left behind under any
cirmcumstances.

I guess that is more than two cents, keep the change.

Thanks, Stu. It will run on low with no problem. It's when I put it
in a higher setting that the blower won't work. Based on that, maybe
it's the switch, not the resistors?!?

Do you know if I can replace just the switch?

Thanks,

P.S. What do I need to do to get the dash off? Just the center
section with the radio & AC controls?

Just to add my 2 cents,

Bottom line, Use common sense and be considerate to others!!!
It is not fun when you have baby sit someone who is not prepared for the trail rating.
I feel it is the trail leader responsibility to post what type of trail they are leading and what is required for that run. Example: If leading a 5 rated trail and the requirements are high clearance, spare parts, winch, ect.. This does not mean for someone to show up with 2" of lift, 31" tires and a limited slips. All this does is ask for breakage, and rock stacking.
If you have all prepared rigs on the trail and breakage happens, then so be it that is part of wheeling, get it fixed and move on.
I do not care how prepared you are there will always be breakage.

I have a front locker in my CJ5 and limited slip in the back. I have
lockout hubs in front. On pavement if I have the hubs locked, it's impossible
to hold my Jeep steady ... with the hubs unlocked, it's no problem at all.

I really don't know for sure just what parts are replaceable. I've seen
a few folks post threads on some on-line forums but never had mine apart
so I've no first hand experience with it.
