John,

I was up there camping last weekend. The entire area between Rim Road and
Control Road is closed. You can take the road that goes by Woods Canyon
lake & camp up there. Off the control road, you can camp only on the right
side; the other side has tape indicating no crossing.

Subject: TJ suspension parts for sale

Well, I finally got the parts cleaned up and ready to go. The list
below details what I have for sale. All parts are in quite good or
better condition unless otherwise noted. Most of you know me pretty
well and should realize I've taken good care of my TJ. I was generous
with my bump stops and so my springs are in very good condition. I was
within 1/2" of my original install height (from 2.5 years ago) when
these were removed last week. These parts all came from my TJ which
looked like this: http://www.stu-offroad.com/98tj/tj-mar-2001.jpg

RE1600 Adj. front track bar w/ new stainless misalignment spacers and
grade 8 bolt $95

RE1620 Adj. rear track bar (needs the misalignment spacers from RE=$20)
with RE angled rear bracket $90

Procomp 4" front springs $90

RE1807 SYE w/cut and tapped stock NP231 output shaft $75

CV drive shaft $200

RE 4.5" rear springs $95 per pair

RE3715 Adj. lower control arms, 2 pairs - $145 per pair

RE3780 Adj. front upper control arms $145

RE3783 Adj. rear upper control arms $145

RE3700 fixed lower control arms $110 per pair

Rancho 9017 (RS-9000) 5-way front shocks $100 (for front)

Rancho 9112 (RS-9000) 5-way rear shocks $100 w/JKS bar pin eliminators
installed (for rear)

Rear shock relocators $25

Unit bearing (front hub) ('98TJ) (new, carried as a spare) $90

You can reach me at home (please, no calls after 9:00 PM) at
623-846-7624. I live near 67th Ave. & Camelback on the west
side....call for directions. First person w/ cash gets the parts (don't
ask me to hold it..I've already been down that road all last week with
various club members).

OK, I've fought the Death wobble issue for the last several years, the current and continuing problem seems to have a lot to do with the stock "Y' style draglink/tie-rod setup that comes factory.
I can fix the wobble by adjusting the toe-in, but it seems to change every few months as the tires wear, or the springs settle (or something).
Would an upgrade to a straight tie-rod draglink setup fix this?
I have placed spacers onto of the 4" springs to compensate for the equipment added to the jeep, and currently have about 5" total lift.
I have checked the tires, wheels and tie rod ends.
Perhaps an "s" shape draglink ?

Any suggestions would be welcome!

Do you have any idea as to where your caster is set at? Even with the
6" lift I had, I only had death wobble one time which was due to the
frame end track bar bolt being stripped out (by someone other than
myself). Your problem can stem from a number of things (track bar, tie
rod ends, control arm bushings, etc.) but even when all components are
in perfect working order, insufficient caster will cause death wobble.

Subject: [TR] Crown King from Lake Pleasant - Saturday, August 16, 2003

Hello All,Leonard Pennock is leading a Crown King from Lake Pleasant trail run on Saturday, August 16, 2003.

When: 1:30pm (For people that just can't get there in the morning"
Where: Castle Hot Springs Road, past the last entrance to the toll booth by the lake, just after where it turns from asphalt to gravel on the left side of the road.
Rating: 3.0-
Length: Rest of the Day.
CB Channel: 4 & FRS 4,0

Yet another one of the Birthday Runs. This trip is for those people that have conflicts that preveent them from going on one of the morning runs. I will probally be hot so bring plenty of water and AC will be prefered.

The Lake Pleasang to Crown King trail is a local favorite. On any given weekend, there will be numerous groups of four wheelers, ATV's and motorcycles heading to and from Crown King. It is a fun and scenic trail into the cooler pines of the Bradshaws. This trail was the first trip ever done by AzVJC.

The trail takes off from the Castle Hotsprings Rd and travels through the foot hills and up the side of the mountain, giving nice views of Lake Pleasant and the Valley. There are some tougher optional sections that can make it interesting.

The trail goes through the old ghost towns of Fort Misery and Oro Belle, both of which are remnants of the Mining era of the Bradshaw Mountains. All that remains now, are foundations and a few crumbling walls. Fort Misery makes a nice place to stop and eat lunch as the small creek usually has running water and there are trees to provide shade.

In the winter months, the trail from Fort Misery through Oro Belle to Crown King will often have snow and/or ice. In the summer, an early start is necessary to stay ahead of the rising temperatures.

Once on top of the mountain, the trail runs through the cool pines and into Crown King. In Crown King there are places to eat and have a drink, and a general store that sells some excellent fudge. The old Crown King Saloon was actually built in Oro Belle, and later hauled up (many years ago) to Crown King and rebuilt. In Oro Belle, the saloon was built into the side of the hill, so the upstairs were mainly accessable from the rear of the building (at ground level). The upstairs served as a place repose for women of ill fame.

There are campgrounds on top of the mountain near Crown King for those wishing to stay overnight. The fastest way down is via the main road which leads through Cleator and toward Bumble Bee. You can split off and go through Cordes Junction, which will get you to the Freeway quicker, or keep going strait and go through the little town of Bumble Bee.

Alternatively, you can take the Senator Highway toward Prescott or Mayer, this can be a very interesting trail during snow season. If you have the time, follow Towers Mountain rd through Crown King and up to the top of Towers Mountain, there are some excellent views and you can join back up with the Senator Highway afterward.

Have fun, remember to bring water and your camera.

Enjoy, and remember to TREAD Lightly!

Have you checked the flasher? They are often separate for the hazards and
the blinkers, and it could cause the problem you describe.

Well all,

I now have the tires on the jeep (after Joe W helped pound them off) and they turn nicely and smooth. I was able to clean a few things off and use the hub assemblies again along with some new used rotors. Everything seems to fine. I do want to try and get a set of the '97 stock rims because mine are pretty beat up and I don't know what damage that has or will do. If anyone has a few laying around please let me know I would like to work a deal. Also, I can't test out my setup yet because I have the front diff cover off. I was going to try and tackle putting in my used Detroit EZ locker but it seems a little more out of my league. If anyone has any time soon or a good write-up to help, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everybody.

Subject: CLUNK!!

That is what my Rubicon did yesterday while accelerating from a
stoplight. Just as I was starting to move (before I had even crossed
the intersection) there was a loud "CLUNK" from somewhere behind me.
Always comforting. Then I noticed that the shift pattern on the 5
speed seemed a bit off. Then I noticed that I could not shift into
5th gear. I pulled over. Reverse was a no-go also. The entire shifter
had....shifted position over towards the passenger seat. 1st through
fourth gears were accessible. "Hmmmmmm" methinks. I am only 1/2 mile
from Home Depot I should be able to make it there and back home, then
call AAA. I start off again, noticing that the a/c is blowing a
little warmer than usual. The temp gage reads 220 instead of 210 but
it is Phoenix in the summer. I pull into HD and the check gauges
(gages??) light comes on and the temp is pegged in the red zone. I
park, get out, open the hood, and there is the resivoir just bubbling
away. Even more comforting. It looks as if the rear of the engine is
slightly tilted towards the passenger side also.

I called AAA and my wife (whom I had been updating) to let them know
where I am and what happend. The motor mounts are both still good I
see. My wife shows up and then AAA. I send Jess home and ride with
AAA to Moore Jeep. As the Jeep is rolling off of the tow truck I
notice that the transfer case has a definite tilt towards the
passenger side. Maybe one of the mounting bolts let go??

Gotta love warranties.

save some $ though. I saw that AEV (the people that did the Brute)
have a package that lengthens the wheelbase of new Jeeps to 104
inches. That would be cool!! I would imagine Troy could do that
also.

First thing I would check would be the passenger side motor mount.

There is an article in the paper today about a Jeep falling off a
cliff into Saguaro lake. Is this one of us?
