To get your jeep up to 3.5 trail, you will need to get a lift atleast 3"
with 32 or squeeze in some 33" tires should do you fine. Loke Jason said, I 'd
get the quicl disonnects too, allow for alot more flex and easir time on the
trail.
And dont forget some of the simple basics that I think are important. Get
your self a Hi-lift jack, a good tow strap, a fire extinguisher, maybe a
small shovel to. (my personal fav)
Everyone on this list has there version of what you should carry, but
these items should be the very minimum you should have.
Hope this helps a little good luck!

Way to nail down the problem!
Just kidding BTW, sounds exactly like something I'd say. LOL
You can pull the fuse under the dash and it should leave the lights
off when doors are open but still useable when turned on by the
headlight switch. Actually I think that would be the way to narrow
down your search for the trouble. Pull the fuse and if the lights
still stay on the short is in the headlight switch. If they go off
then you have it narrowed down to one of the two door sensors.

Hello All,Vincent Ercolani is leading an Axle Alley trail run on Saturday, July 26, 2003.

When: 7:15AM
Where: Where ever people tell me they want to meet
Rating: 4.5+
Length: until we finish
CB Channel: 4
I will be trying to find a friend to come with me so I can leave my cherokee at the top as an anchor. I have been to the first set of waterfalls but didn't have a winch at the time. I have walked the whole trail. This is my test to see if I am ready for the rubicon in August (with enough time to fix whatever I break). If we can get up H2H we can do this.
Axle Alley is one of two, truly extreme trails in Arizona. This trail starts with several major waterfalls requiring the use of a winch. Last year when this trail was opened there were three waterfalls needing a winch; today the majority of extreme vehicles will still need to winch.

This trail is approximately 3/4 of a mile in length but it doesn't give you much time to "breath" in between obstacles. You will encounter boulders, waterfalls, creaveses, off camber and just plain "I can't believe I have to do that" challenges.

This is a fun trail for the extreme 4-wheeler, both driver and vehicle.

It will require a fully locked, lifted and modified vehicle with a winch. Bring lunch, plenty of drinking water and don't forget your camera.
The Lake Pleasang to Crown King trail is a local favorite. On any given weekend, there will be numerous groups of four wheelers, ATV's and motorcycles heading to and from Crown King. It is a fun and scenic trail into the cooler pines of the Bradshaws. This trail was the first trip ever done by AzVJC.
The trail takes off from the Castle Hotsprings Rd and travels through the foot hills and up the side of the mountain, giving nice views of Lake Pleasant and the Valley. There are some tougher optional sections that can make it interesting.
The trail goes through the old ghost towns of Fort Misery and Oro Belle, both of which are remnants of the Mining era of the Bradshaw Mountains. All that remains now, are foundations and a few crumbling walls. Fort Misery makes a nice place to stop and eat lunch as the small creek usually has running water and there are trees to provide shade.
In the winter months, the trail from Fort Misery through Oro Belle to Crown King will often have snow and/or ice. In the summer, an early start is necessary to stay ahead of the rising temperatures.
Once on top of the mountain, the trail runs through the cool pines and into Crown King. In Crown King there are places to eat and have a drink, and a general store that sells some excellent fudge. The old Crown King Saloon was actually built in Oro Belle, and later hauled up (many years ago) to Crown King and rebuilt. In Oro Belle, the saloon was built into the side of the hill, so the upstairs were mainly accessable from the rear of the building (at ground level). The upstairs served as a place repose for women of ill fame.
There are campgrounds on top of the mountain near Crown King for those wishing to stay overnight. The fastest way down is via the main road which leads through Cleator and toward Bumble Bee. You can split off and go through Cordes Junction, which will get you to the Freeway quicker, or keep going strait and go through the little town of Bumble Bee.
Alternatively, you can take the Senator Highway toward Prescott or Mayer, this can be a very interesting trail during snow season. If you have the time, follow Towers Mountain rd through Crown King and up to the top of Towers Mountain, there are some excellent views and you can join back up with the Senator Highway afterward.
Have fun, remember to bring water and your camera.
Enjoy, and remember to TREAD Lightly!

Mmmm, everyone seems to be forgetting about something, that you really
should have for wheeling out here, at least at the high end of your range
(2.5 ~ 3.5), and that's protection.. Gas tank skid, engine oil pan skid, at
the minimum, with a really, really high recommendation of rocker skids..

Bing,
I have a fully stock 97 TJ except for 31s for feet and I've done some 3.0+ trails with minor scrapes on the underside. Once you learn to wheel and learn to chose the best line for your Jeeps capabilities I think you can do more than you think. With the expertise of some members I was able to do these trails with little problems at all. I would start off with some 31s if you don't have them already and then add some quick disco's. I have a little writeup, that I will use soon, that shows how to make some quick discos with minimal parts from Home Depot. Let me know if you want it and I'll shoot it over to you.

In any case, to do trails at the 2.5 end of that range, I don't think
you need to do any upgrades. To do trails at the 3.5 end of that
range, I suggest a small-to-moderate lift (3"), bigger mud-tread
tires (31"), front sway bar disconnects, and a high lift jack. A
locker at one end would be "icing on the cake".

Trail run with the Phoenix 4 Wheelers. Expext to do more than 1 trail, possibly Terminator and Raw Deal. The number of runs will depend on who shows and what trail rating they want to do. Bring plenty of liquids, it will still be hot till late. Do not know when we will finish so bring lunch/snacks. See you there.
There are a number of trails in this area; some of the most difficult trails in Arizona can be found here. There are also moderate and easy trails to be found. There are also ghost towns and old mines to explore in this area.
Here is an incomplete list of trails that may be found.

Hi. do an archive search on the rubicon with the list. There was a big
discussion about this and someone (I think it was Joe W) figured out exactly
what it would cost to build up a regular TJ to the equivelant of the
Rubicon. If I remember right (if you got the Rubicon for a decent price
from the dealership) it paid to buy the Rubi instead of building from
scratch.

(been there done that) Off Bumble bee, is the way you go to take the front

Carefree highway and take it over. lake pleasent road.

Bing,
I have a fully stock 97 TJ except for 31s for feet and I've done some 3.0+ trails with minor scrapes on the underside.

You are welcome to join the Turkey Creek run. I think Joe West will be
taking the graded road again this year you might be able to join him.
ROTFLMAO ;)
Someone might lead a trip from Prescott too. There is also another way
in from Wickenburg.

I'll be coming down from Flagstaff to do this run. Is anyone else
leaving from the I-17/Bumble Bee area? I assume I don't need to come
all the way down to LP to get to the trail.
This will be my first time on this trail, so I'd like to follow
someone.

Subject: Rubicon or sport
I have to agree that if the Jeep came with Lora Croft I would have to
buy that one to. The big question is. Is it better to get a Jeep
that has no upgrades on it or to get a Rubicon which has everything
that I would get. The only thing that I would think about changing
is the lift. Any suggestions

There was a big
discussion about this and someone (I think it was Joe W) figured out exactly
what it would cost to build up a regular TJ to the equivelant of the
Rubicon. If I remember right (if you got the Rubicon for a decent price
from the dealership) it paid to buy the Rubi instead of building from
scratch.
