3 points of attachment...hense the 3 link LOL The 2 lower
control arms and a torque arm on the drivers side too a custom weld
on bracket with the kit. The torque arm mounts to the lower arm and
to the axle

Ahh, ok, it's there regular front mounting.. I didn't know if their new
stretch kit was different in the front.

I really call it a 4 link though ;)
- 2 LCA's
- 1 Upper (even though it sort of mounts to the same area as the drivers
side LCA, it's still a separate arm ;) ) radius arm (or torque arm as
they call it)
- 1 track bar

BTW, I have their rear tri-link (only) on my TJ, and so far it's been
great..
Nice getting rid of the rear track bar.. No more wanting the squat on the
right rear, and lighten up the left front ;)

:)

Subject: Joe W TJ vs Toys by Troy TJ

Hi Joe,

I'm calling you out to have a friendly test. Kind of like the "Pepsi
Challenge" :D

Troy is willing to loan me his white TJ for the test. We can do a road test
of it and then compare that test drive to your TJ's performance. Troy has a
really nice obstacle course that we can run both Jeeps through after doing
the road test to evaluate offroad performance. Or we can take both out to
one of the local trails. This can be a public or private test, it's your
call on that.

What do you think? It will be fun. I don't want to change your opinion, just
allow you to develop a more informed opinion based on some hands on
experience with his setup. If you still think it's crap then fine, that's
your opinion. At least give yourself the opportunity to check it out. I
think this is a fair request. Who knows, maybe you'll even want to purchase
one of his kits ;)

It'll be one last fun Jeep thing for us to do before I leave for Montana in
September. Lets set a date for 2-3 weeks from now.

<Grin>

Hey now!

There is no correlation between welding on the frame and alumi-stress
steering... unless of course you happen to overheat the aluminum during the
welding process in which case it becomes EVEN more brittle, which could of
course cause it to fracture even easier which could lead to a failure at
high speed causing you to slam into a bus full of school children which
would then cause the demise of the entire bus load of children resulting in
the recall of all alumi-stress components ever installed and the resulting
bankruptcy of Toys By Troy and vindication of all my comments regarding the
risks of using aluminum in single point failure designs.. LOL Just joking
Sharky (okay... I'm not) :)

You've seen him weld Randy...do ya blame me! LOL
With the 3 link front I need a hotter weld than his welder can give and I
sure dont want my front end falling out on me because Im sure
that Joe West would find a way to blame it on my Alumi-Flex LOL

How did he get you on his payroll? I want to play too :)
You cant really run a long arm against a short arm in a test like
this, there is no comparison between the 2 and you know that from
having the RE long arm. There are tons of long arms kits to test with
why use a short arm?

Hey folks..anyone got a trashed out TJ RE adjustable track bar laying

little spacers and the sleeve that fits inside of the heim. Trade you
for a six pack of something cold to drink?

Also Sharky...I recommend replacing the LCA mounting brackets with something
more beefy. I bought RKs skids and put them over my existing mounts. The
stock mounts tear off like tissue paper with the torque of the tri link in
full droop (the nice strong weld will be all that remains on the axle).
Jeremy has said that they are probably going to start including them with
the kits because this happens to EVERYONE with the kit. The other
recommendation I would have would be to weld the Long Arm mounts on the
frame as close as possible to the desired length needed to get your axle
position correct. My LA heims need about 6 to 8 threads showing on the heim
joint for the proper length. This has put too much stress on the heim and I
have bent several 3/4 heims. Since you are just setting it up now, you have
a good opportunity to correct a few things that Flexy and I broke the hard
way on our rigs. (IE: you are going to want to limit strap the center of
both of your axles, use a thin heim on the torque arm, scrap the RK shocks,
etc).
You can shoot me an email off list if you want.

Hi Scott,

You don't need to change my opinion; Even though I Jest... I asked Stu last
week to put me in touch with Troy because I am interested in his control
arms. There would be some custom work involved since I can't use the RE
skid... but I am interested. While I would never use aluminum in a steering
setup; I see no problem with it in control arms since a complete failure of
a control arm is not likely to wreak as much havoc at high speeds... I've
driven with a control arm completely broken at 60mph and not had any issues.

I'm dying to get rid of my short arms... I just had 4 wheeler's weld up my
front upper control arm mounts on the frame ends, which were stressed
because of all my lift.

If Troy is interested in selling me a set... hopefully, he will get in touch
with me. I still haven't heard back from Stu with contact information.

Tell Troy to give me a call or shoot me an email.

Kind Regards,

Joe

<Grin>

I'm not) :)

Hi Scott,

You don't need to change my opinion; Even though I Jest... I asked Stu
last
week to put me in touch with Troy because I am interested in his control
arms. There would be some custom work involved since I can't use the RE
skid... but I am interested. While I would never use aluminum in a
steering
setup; I see no problem with it in control arms since a complete failure
of
a control arm is not likely to wreak as much havoc at high speeds...
I've
driven with a control arm completely broken at 60mph and not had any
issues.

I'm dying to get rid of my short arms... I just had 4 wheeler's weld up
my
front upper control arm mounts on the frame ends, which were stressed
because of all my lift.

If Troy is interested in selling me a set... hopefully, he will get in
touch
with me. I still haven't heard back from Stu with contact information.

Tell Troy to give me a call or shoot me an email.

Kind Regards,

Joe

Hi Joe,

I'm calling you out to have a friendly test. Kind of like the "Pepsi
Challenge" :D

Troy is willing to loan me his white TJ for the test. We can do a road
test
of it and then compare that test drive to your TJ's performance. Troy
has a
really nice obstacle course that we can run both Jeeps through after
doing
the road test to evaluate offroad performance. Or we can take both out
to
one of the local trails. This can be a public or private test, it's your
call on that.

What do you think? It will be fun. I don't want to change your opinion,
just
allow you to develop a more informed opinion based on some hands on
experience with his setup. If you still think it's crap then fine,
that's
your opinion. At least give yourself the opportunity to check it out. I
think this is a fair request. Who knows, maybe you'll even want to
purchase
one of his kits ;)

It'll be one last fun Jeep thing for us to do before I leave for Montana
in
September. Lets set a date for 2-3 weeks from now.

<Grin>

Hey now!

There is no correlation between welding on the frame and alumi-stress
steering... unless of course you happen to overheat the aluminum during
the
welding process in which case it becomes EVEN more brittle, which could
of
course cause it to fracture even easier which could lead to a failure at
high speed causing you to slam into a bus full of school children which
would then cause the demise of the entire bus load of children resulting
in
the recall of all alumi-stress components ever installed and the
resulting
bankruptcy of Toys By Troy and vindication of all my comments regarding
the
risks of using aluminum in single point failure designs.. LOL Just

Hello All,Joey Kulich is leading a Turkey Creek trail run on Saturday, August 16, 2003.

When: 7:00 AM

Rating: 3.0+
Length: 3 hours to Cleater

As an alternate trail to Crown King.

I am requiring at least 31" tires for this trail. Anything above that is better.

This trail starts near Bumble Bee and ends in Cleater. It may take about 3 or 4 hours to get to Cleater then a short trip from there to Crown King.
The Turkey Creek Trail runs up the Black Canyon from Bumble Bee to Cleator. After turning left off the main road onto FR 684, the trail will split to go down into the canyon, and then meet back up at the bottom. Either way will get you down, neither are very tough.

Once down to the bottom, take a hard right up and drive up the sandy wash. Keep an eye out for a trail that leads off from the left. If you get to a wide area where the wash splits, you've gone too far. The trail runs between tight brush on each side, there is a gate that you'll have to go through not to far along. As with all gates, if it's open when you find it leave it open; if it's closed then make sure you close it after you pass through.

The trail at this point winds its way up the wash, in many places the trail has all but disappeared. There will be rocky areas to play on along the way. If the river is running, you'll want to make sure you have a winch along, as there are boulders and quick sand hiding, waiting to bite a Jeep.

Keep following the wash up, eventually the road will become more apparent. The trail takes a steep climb out to the top of a ridge, then drops off the other side. You will come to a Y intersection, you may go either way. The left branch climbs another ridge and then drops you back into the wash on the other side.

The right branch takes you through an old hermit's mining claim. The trail on the right branch almost completly disappears; pick your way through carefully you'll find rocky flat areas with no brush on them, this is the trail. After passing around the corner from the Hermit's cabin, you'll see where the trail used to go across a bend in the wash; now that is pretty much impassable. You can continue up the wash and around the corner. If the water is running, this may be extremely hazardous.

After the bend, the two trails combine again. The trail is much more visible now, there will be a few places where the trail splits, take the most travelled looking trail. Go SLOW one of these side trails (the old trail) has about a four foot angled drop off as you come around a blind curve.

The further you go, the more apparent the trail is. At the joining of Poland Creek and Turkey Creek, the trail leaves the bottom of the canyon and heads across the hills to Cleator. Overall, with a small group of Jeeps, this trail can be done between 4 - 6 hours when dry depending on how much site seeing you do. If it is really wet, this can be a weekend trip. One note of caution, this trail runs almost entirely through active mining claims; do NOT stop and start digging around.

Remember to bring water, lunch (and more if it's wet), and don't forget your camera.

Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

Subject: Corvette Water Pump in my Jeep

Guys,
yeah, Scott Tate here again. I'm becomming a regular pain! :) LOL.
In any event, I just bought a new custom aluminum radiator from Ron
Davis last week. I also bought a new water pump, thermostat, etc for my
1994 LT1 in my 1990 Wrangler. Now, the system worked adequately before
with the steel radiator. It just got a little hot when I went wheeling.
So, I bought this radiator in preparation for an air conditioner. I
mounted the radiator after properly mounting the new water pump (yes
it's the correct pump). Upon taking it for a drive, the car heats up
out of control immediately! However, when I stop, the SPAL fan does
cool it back down to 180 (which is what my thermostat is). It almost
seems like the water pump isn't pumping. Now, I'm not really sure what
to do. No one seems to know if there is a true test for this water
pump. Since it is a reverse flow system, you can't use the old trick of
leaving the radiator cap off and watching the flow serge through when
the thermostat opens. In any event, it just kind of seems like this is
what you might expect to see if a water pump were not pumping. I need
to make sure of that before I call Ron Davis back. Also, if anyone has
any spare time, I would greatly appreciate a bit of help. I'm moving
out of my townhouse next week and have to get the Jeep driving by then!
Ouch!
Any ideas?
Scott Tate

FYI, the jeep:

1990 Wrangler
1994 LT1 VIN P engine
New water pump and 180 degree thermostat
New Ron Davis custom aluminum radiator

and, the system worked fine before I put the new pump and radiator in
there!
