It is 2 years old and it good shape. I have spare parts for it as
well. I decided dealing with the locker all the time wasn't worth my
3 to 4 offroad runs a year. Going with an LS front and rear. $100
shipped anywhere in the lower 48. I can email pics starting tomorrow.
I still need to take them. Located in Columbus, Oh area.
I'm not selling it, wanting to buy if its a good deal.

8.8 swaps are easy. I've done 3 of them on TJ's. Doing it on a YJ should be
a piece of cake compared to the TJ.
You've got the correct list of parts. I picked up 2 of the 8.8's from the
junkyard just south of Ecology. It's just on the other side of the RR
tracks.
I'm in the process of moving to Montana but have a spare set of 8.8
axleshafts sitting in my garage. All I want for them is $30.

Subject: Re: Grand Cherokee Axle Shafts
Nate,
I offered a set of D35C axles to Steve's friend, Marco. He came by
yesterday and got them. Unfortunately we should have taken a look at
the axles before having him drive all the way out to Mesa. Mine
didn't look much better than the one he brought out as a comparison.
Tell me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the D35C axle shafts ride
directly on the bearing (at the wheel end of the axle). There is no
race. So after awhile, the right axle shaft, which takes the brunt of
the torque, starts getting worn down. My right axle shaft had a
definite ridge where they came in contact with the bearing and we
concluded that the axle was probably not usable. The tolerances would
be too far out. I am going to make a wild guess and assume that this
is why the D35C eventually starts whining. Jeep sure cheapened the
product with this axle design. Another good reason to switch to a
different axle style (D44, 8.8, 9.25, etc)in the rear, particularly
if you are planning on using the vehicle for 4-wheeling.

The biggest problem that I could see with the 8.8 swap is that you need to
set up for an ebrake. But, a friend of mine told me about a set up using a
soleniod line lock (like the drag racers use). You can flip a switch and
lock the rear brakes that way. (also doubles as a pretty good security
device if you hide the switch:)

E-brake solution is easy. On a TJ you use ZJ cables. On a YJ I believe you
can use the Ford cables from the donor vehicle with mild tweaking or reuse
the stock YJ cables if you modify the ends.

Solenoid brakes are cool but only for intermittent use - for a max of 2
minutes. Otherwise it will burn up and/or drain the battery; if one
used a Continuous-Solenoid it would be fine but the battery will be dead
in a few hours.
Another solution is to use a mechanical line brake - but time
consuming to operate and no way could it be used as an EMERGENCY brake.
Or, fab a transfer case e-brake like I use - less than a $100

We've got one in the YJ (8" long arm coil-over). It is a fairly easy
swap and can be done in a day. If you are here in Phoenix, the
Pic-A-Parts (pull it your self wrecking yards) is a good place to start.
Depending at which yard you find one, it will run $125 to $225. Ours
was $130 w/ limited slip, disc to disc, 36k miles. I was out there this
weekend and did not see any so don't start looking 'til next week. Get
one out of a "95 or newer for the disks. I didn't use the e-brakes,
instead I opt for a transfer case brake and it is actually cheaper to
set up w/new parts and all- under $100.
Here is a good write up if you don't already know of this link:

I need to bleed my lines after the recent work I did and Brakes Plus want
$45.00 to bleed them. I tried the Wife approach but she does not tell me
when she gets to the bottom of the pedal so it makes it very hard with her
helping me out.

I had asked him about that. I think the Solenoid just activates the line
lock switch. once its locked, its locked until the solenoid is hit again. He
ran it for years in a blazer without any problems.
The 8.8's I looked at werent set up for ebrakes, they must have been out of
something different than the ones Scott is talking about ( I thought they
were from ford explorers) . It sounds like all he had to do was worry about
brake cables.
I have seen a few set ups that have special mounts for additional e brake
calipers from other applications etc. That transfer case lock is cool, I
hadnt seen that one before.

E-brake solution is easy. On a TJ you use ZJ cables. On a YJ I believe you
can use the Ford cables from the donor vehicle with mild tweaking or reuse
the stock YJ cables if you modify the ends.

Another solution is to use a mechanical line brake - but time

The biggest problem that I could see with the 8.8 swap is that you need
to
set up for an ebrake. But, a friend of mine told me about a set up using
a
soleniod line lock (like the drag racers use). You can flip a switch and
lock the rear brakes that way. (also doubles as a pretty good security
device if you hide the switch:)

Does anyone have a brake bleed system I can borrow or have them help me out?
I need to bleed my lines after the recent work I did and Brakes Plus want
$45.00 to bleed them. I tried the Wife approach but she does not tell me
when she gets to the bottom of the pedal so it makes it very hard with her
helping me out.
Thanks

I had asked him about that. I think the Solenoid just activates the line
lock switch. once its locked, its locked until the solenoid is hit again. He
ran it for years in a blazer without any problems.
The 8.8's I looked at werent set up for ebrakes, they must have been out of
something different than the ones Scott is talking about ( I thought they
were from ford explorers) . It sounds like all he had to do was worry about
brake cables.
I have seen a few set ups that have special mounts for additional e brake
calipers from other applications etc. That transfer case lock is cool, I
hadnt seen that one before.

If nobody has one you can borrow, I know harbor freight has a couple
different kits you can buy... I dont think they cost much either.
There is the one out by as at Val Vista and Southern. -Rob
