First off, this is the stock DC battery in my 2000 TJ.

I had my jeep parked and went to start it and nothing. I have had no indications there were any problems until this. I noticed I had no power, a flickering dome light was about it. I popped the hood and the "dummy" indicator on the battery was black as night.

I got a jump and as I was driving home I noticed that the amp gauge (yes I know that it is not 100% accurate) was "pegged" @ 19. When I got it home I pulled the battery, and it appears to be toast. This is the original battery on a 2000 TJ so I figure that it gave up the ghost. Any one have any experiences similar, only to find something other than the battery? I am running some additional electrical accessories, but nothing extreme.

I am considering going to a yellow top Optima, anyone know where I can get one in the east valley tonight?

Thanks,

-Mike Hoyt

Hi all,
My 97 Dodge Ram was minding it's own business "sitting in my drive way" when a Dodge hater decided to hit it. "Probably a Ford lover"..... "They are always jealous of Dodges"
Of course the driver was unlicensed and uninsured....
I need the name of a GREAT shop that will treat me right, in accessing the damage to my truck. With such a huge group here I know someone works at a bodyshop or has had some good dealings with one.
I am in Mesa but would be willing to go anywhere that comes with a good recommendation.

Thanks in advance,

P.S. If my Jeep wasn't in John's shop getting a full cage put in at the time, it would have been the one getting hit !!!!!!

It sounds like you are right, the battery is dead. I would have it load tested to be sure, How far is your drive home? If you travel at all your alternator shold have given it a good charge.
You can pick up red top and yellow top batteries from Costco.

good luck,

Subject: Re: [az_vjc] Battery Problems

Mike,
It sounds like you are right, the battery is dead. I would have it load tested to be sure, How far is your drive home? If you travel at all your alternator shold have given it a good charge.
You can pick up red top and yellow top batteries from Costco.

good luck,
Shawn

Thanks,

-Mike Hoyt

With new battery installed, it fired right up. Autozone checked the old one after leaving there for an hour to charge and it failed miserably. It was 3 years old so it was time I imagine. I checked, and I do not have draw when the jeep is off and the hood light is disconnected.

Thanks again,

Mike,
So did the new battery fix your problems?
To make sure it's not masking anymore problems, "short" "drain" you could measure the voltage on the battery with the Jeep off...
Thanks I will keep impact auto body in mind.

Shawn, thanks, I just went and got a yellow top with the side posts from AutoZone, probably paid more but I needed it tonight. AutoZone carries them for $159.99.

BTW, read the post about the Dodge. I recently had work done on my jeep when the entire front end was smashed in and I took it to Impact Auto Body (McKellips and Greenfield) they did an excellent job. Their work was flawless.

Good luck on getting your car fixed.

I was wondering about what street tire pressure you folks are using in 35x12.5R15 Goodyear MT/Rs on a Jeep Wrangler. The tire store put in 30 psi, but I am thinking 25 psi is probably a little closer. I plan on using a caulk line on the tread to determine proper inflation, but want a good starting point. WIth 30 psi, the edges of the tread are obviously not touching the road.

Check out T & S Auto Body in Tempe down the street from WalMart. Very professional and expensive. Their work is outstanding. If nothing else go talk to them and check the place out, you'll be impressed.

I would try East Valley Institute Of Technology And talk to Mr. Horace Lewis. If you decide to take this route, let him know Anthony Celaya sent you. Believe it or not, these guys take great care of cars and any challenge is taken with arms wide open. I was a student is his course back in 90,91,92. just give it a try and see what he says, he's good people. S/W of Alma School and Main

Subject: Tire Balancing?

I took my ZJ to the Discount on Grand and Peoria. It was doing just fine, but it was due for balance and rotation and I did not have time to drive to Rick's Discount. Well, now I seem to be getting a minor case of the Death Wobble between 40-51 mph. My tires are 32x11.50 BFG M/T. Could they have been balanced or rotated incorrectly?
Any input would be great.
Thanks

On Sunday... Tom took time out of his day to help me disassemble a complete
front suspension (for my Corvair). Watching him work on the suspension was
like watching an artist paint... One hit here and the ball joint falls
out... a tape there and out comes a bushing... all this after I spent HOURS
trying to get the 40+ year old suspension apart. I'm not kidding when I say
that there is a magic touch when it comes to front end work; and Tom
LaFrance has it.

Thanks Tom!!!
