Hi Randy,

After I go through the solution I purchased from them... I'm going to try a
solvent (non water) based solution to see how it compares with the water
based stuff. Do you have an idea where I might purchase it from?

Kind Regards,

Joe

Sorry to here that Joe. Mine has badly rusted and I used the solution they
sell for it. If you are going to use this parts cleaner do not use a water
based solution.

FYI.

Today I went into Harbor Freight to purchase a parts cleaning tank and found
them on sale from $99 to $69 for the deluxe 20 gallon tank (includes
sprayer, pump and automatic lid which closes instantly in the event of a
fire inside the tank.

I put the tank together today and it is very sturdy with quality higher than
I expected.

Non taken. However I am pretty sure the AX15 and AX5 are the same except the output shaft is a a bit smaller.

I think the engine choice should be decided by what you want to do with your Jeep.

On road the 4 cyl is limited to 33" tires no matter what the gears you have installed. Large tires means more weight and you are eventually going to be considering an engine swap.

Off road with the proper gearing in the differentials, transfer case and transmission you can very much hang with the larger Jeeps. The power to weight ratio is very favorable. The 2.5L has been known to break D60 axels in rough terrain. The thing I like about the 4 is my drive train is pushed less and I have not had any problems with any breakage. Others with larger wheels and a 4:1 transfer case have been know to snap axles fairly easily.

Towing, you will definitely want the larger engine.

Future of the Jeep. If your plans are much bigger for your Jeep, saving the money not spent on a 6 cylinder could be used toward a lighter V6 or shorter V8 in the future.

For me, I have a 4 cylinder and yes I curse it occasionally on the highway. Off road it is awesome even without regearing. Because it is my daily driver I am currently planning a complete drive train swap. Mostly because I want better clearance and a much lower crawl ratio. With larger tires I need stronger axels which means bigger and more weight. I also want to tow a small trailer for camping and such. I am looking for a cheap 4.3.

Good luck in your decision.

No offense to those of you that have one, and probably like it, but I say DONT GET THE 4CYL ! I can tell you from one of my past life in sales management and working for a dealer that among other things sold Jeeps, that the 4 cyl to a dealer is the KISS OF DEATH ! Resale is tough, they are hard to get rid of and if a salesman sold a used one, he got a big bonus for getting rid of it. Most of them went to auction. My daughter has a 4cyl and it truly cannot hold its own to the 4.0. You will NOT be able to tow and if you do your gas milage will go down hill quick.......the diff in milage between her 4 and my 6 is just about 2 mpg. I cant speak for the TJ tranny but the 4.0 YJ has the AX15 tranny which (and Scott K wont agree with this :-) is damn dependable and rugged compared to the AX5 the 4 bangers had (that is if you had the 5sp manual). Just my opinion stay away from the 4 cyl, especially if you want to tow and most definetely if you want to go with 33's or 35s.

Phil,

This is very similar to the one I have. Works great for the occasional
Jeep/car work. I haven't use a paint gun with it but for house painting
I am sure it would be adequate. I have heard that for professional car
painting you would like a larger tank. My neighbor used his 15 gallon
compressor to paint his rear XJ hatch and it did real well.

the 4.0 and aw-4 in the xj's? that seems like a good combo. are the

I have that exact compressor. It isn't bad, it's loud, but it is
great to have air when working on the CJ. a little bigger would have
been nice, but I get buy with this, and it was a good deal for the
money. The only thing that I use that it has trouble keeping up with
is the sander and the cut off tool, everthing else it does pretty
well. Don't buy the cheap air tool sets that are usually sitting
right next to the compressors, they are garbage. You will want to
get an inline oiler for it.

I just got the 6hp, 26 gallon Coleman from Costco for my birthday.
I have been using it for my 8.8 swap and love it. It only takes a
couple of minutes to get it up to the 155 lbs of max pressure, and
after an hour of on and off use, it had not kicked on as of yet to
refill. It is a bit louder than I expected, but runs those tools
GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did still have a few bolts that required a
breaker bar to get started, but it made short work afer that.

Coleman is a big name and my expectations are that they would not
put out a product that is bad. That said you, I found a Husky
compressor at Home Depot, 5.5 hp and 1 gallon smaller than the
Coleman for about $30 cheaper, but decided against the hassle of
taking back the Coleman. I don't think you can go wrong either way,
but I love my Coleman compressor.

The ones made for club stores don't show up on their web site. I
purchased a similar Coleman at Sam's Club. Came with a hose, paint
gun, Impact wrench, little die grinder, etc. For occasional work on
the Jeep and around the house it seems to do quite well.
