Subject: [TR] Trip Report - FR-42 - Saturday, April 19, 2003
Hello All,
Robert (Roy) Rogers lead a trail run Saturday, April 19, 2003 across FR-42
By the time I arrived at the paystation Brandon Sudeith and Mark Current were waiting for me, we were soon joined by Dennis Vega. Eveything was going well till we reached edge of the earth. Brandon went strait down, I took the normal by-pass, while Mark and Dennis tried the third route. As Mark rejoined the the nomal by-pass route (right above the rolled Chevy) his left front tire went into a hole and he almost did an end-over. Not thinking I droped the camera to its neck strap and rushed forward to try and prevent the roll, and missed a great shot of his Cherokee,s bottom! We were able to get him back up to the top where he returned back down the normal by-pass route. Investigation showed that something (maybe the Chevy) had dug out the bottom of the hill. Dennis had no real problem with his shorter wheel base. Could this be what happened to the Chevy. Attempting to climb the by-pass, and not able, it doug out the bottom of the hill. If the driver then backed up and tried to use momentum the energy may have been enough to flip him over sideways. The vehicle would have been flipped back and left into the hillside, denting the cab roof and then rolling right down into the wash. Anyway...we continued down to Indian Springs wash for lunch then proceded to finish the trail to Horseshoe Lake. Brandon had a little fun on the hill obsticle but made it thru with a lot of dirt flying. We finished the trail and check out Horseshoe. It is strange to see so much water there. Hope to get out there again soon...Roy...

However the 4.0's are quite a bit more $ than the four bangers. Those
of you w/ the four how do you like them? Get good (better) gas
mileage? power on and off pavement? i have a small 1000 lb camp/ tent

inches lift and 31's. It would be our family second veh, not a daily
driver but would see alot of pavement.needs to be good all around,
freeway to good camping, phx, trails around Tucson, but not a super
buildup or trail only veh. Thanks, byron

Subject: Wrench Party??
I had all arrangements made to have my lift installed with the help
of a family friend who is a mechanic. Well he just gave notice to his
boss ( reduction in business) and therefore will not be able to use
the shop facilities. I've got a 3.5 RE7003 lift kit w/ 1" MM lift&
1"Body Lift and Kilby Gas Tank Skid plate that I would dearly like to
get installed so I can come out and play with the big boys on some of
the better trails. My family friend is a good mecanic but has no
experience with installing lifts. I am a rank amateur when it comes
to lifts and jeep equipment. I have researched it throughly as far as
what kind of equipment I want to install. I've talked to quite a few
of our club members and am sure this is the rig for me. I have quite
a few tools but am not sure what exactly will be needed to install
the different features I have chosen. My garage is to small to jack
anything up in, so I'm begging for help and a place to install it.
All the beer and eats you can handle, can someone help me out?

So... because you get a pop up ad on the bottom of your screen, you think it
is being forced on you. What about the other ads that are displayed by
Yahoo groups. It's ok until it's something that you don't agree with? A
Christian person or Christian company has just as much right to pay for
advertising space as anybody else. It would be prejudice to not allow
somebody to advertise simply because of their religion.

Actually I have the same lift on its way to me right now. I have
plenty of space, air and tools (well, after I go get some friggin'
metric stuff...). I have never really worked on a TJ (hence the lack
of friggin' metric tools), but can offer a place to do this, if we can
get an experienced lift person we can have an RE7003-fest. Maybe BBQ

Probably won't be able to do it till next weekend, my lift isn't due

Since a few people expressed interest in these

finished getting the dana 44 under the cj today.
Still have to get some new shocks, weld some shock
mounts differently then I originally expected, longer
brake lines, set up the steering, modify the skid
plate for the new axle (offset a bit more), and put
the new front driveshaft in. Oh and install the dana
60 under the rear and everything it entails (that's
next weekend). Needless to say I have plenty of
clearance over my 33's now :P. Notice the new width,
should put me at about TJ width.

Hope to get out there again soon...Roy...

mileage? power on and off pavement? i have a small 1000 lb camp/ tent

inches lift and 31's. It would be our family second veh, not a daily

freeway to good camping, phx, trails around Tucson, but not a super

Maybe BBQ
up some chicken and burgers or something.
Probably won't be able to do it till next weekend, my lift isn't due
until Wednesday.

Even the safest course is fraught with peril.

Subject: Dana 44 installed
Since a few people expressed interest in these
pictures I decided to post them for all to see. I
finished getting the dana 44 under the cj today.
Still have to get some new shocks, weld some shock
mounts differently then I originally expected, longer
brake lines, set up the steering, modify the skid
plate for the new axle (offset a bit more), and put
the new front driveshaft in. Oh and install the dana
60 under the rear and everything it entails (that's
next weekend). Needless to say I have plenty of
clearance over my 33's now :P. Notice the new width,
should put me at about TJ width.

Subject: 4cyl Tj
I have a 4cyl with 33" tires with a 4" lift. With 4.88 gears it's
allright but depending on the car you drive now, the jeep will seem
very underpowered. If I had to do it again I would have gotten the
4.0L
If you're happy with the stock size then 4cyl is ok, but if you are
towing like you mentioned I would save for the 6.
If you want to test drive mine you're more than welcome to.
feel free to email me offline, I'm right by a freeway

I just got around to looking at these.. You took some nice photos !!
HOWEVER, I noticed that y'all were in the mill..
That's private property.. It's been mentioned here a bunch of times, mostly
by Sandee..
If people continue to enter the mill and the mines, Martinez will be closed
!!!!
